  1. …more women are having the procedures done “fuelled in part by the mass media and inaccurate advertising,” said Suzi Leather, chairwoman of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists ethics committee.

… legal proceedings to be handled by Gloria Allred..

  2. I don’t know about the rest of you but I’ve never in my lifetime seen an ugly vagina.
Without exception, they were absolutely lovely. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder I guess.

  3. In my whole practice career I’ve only had one request by a woman for vulvar surgery. She was a stripper who happened to have unusually long labia minora. It was an interesting series of office visits where she tried to convince me why she needed this surgery for her job. What I think she was attempting to demonstrate with her various contortions was that the excessively long labia were blocking the view but in any event it was a nice distraction from a busy day at the office. I referred her to a gynecologist who performed the surgery and did comment that he had rarely seen labia minor that long. She was ecstatic and quite happy to show me the new vulva she’d be flashing in the strip clubs of BC. Her tips apparently went up after the surgery so it was likely a shrewd investment. Also, very unusual in her case, was that she saved all the money she made from stripping and giving lap dances and, once she decided that she was getting too old for the job (before the age of 30!) she bought a house in Calgary and moved there. I’m much more used to seeing strippers in opiate withdrawal as they generally spend all their money on drugs.

  4. Something about knives around genitalia that makes most guys like me nervous. If a woman wants to better cross the “t” and dot the “i” in her tail all the power to her just so long as the procedure doesn’t come outta my own anatomy in any way, shape or form.

  5. I missed my calling. I knew I should be been a gynecologist. Mom wanted me to be a doctor, whatever that is…

  6. this and dick (not slathering dick)extension are some time good for a howler, tho Loki’s example certainly puts a different spin on it. And I also new a “dancer” who quit at about 30, and she could have went for another 10 years, but was flush with cash also:-)))

  7. Guess it’s still a better profession than being a proctologist, better known as a brain surgeon for lawyers. Still, how shallow does one have to be to think it’s a important procedure that would replace personality for any lasting satisfaction?

  8. Not to be too pedantic, but vaginas spend most of their time
as collapsed tubes. The discussion items in play, on the other
hand, have more in common with distorted valve cover and cylinder
head gaskets on the family car.
Which brings up a question of modern etiquette. Should a current
boyfriend get involved in fundraising for “physical improvements
desired by his lady love? There is the positive idea that as prime
beneficiary of the improved landscape view he should be helping but
there is also the record that lays bare the sad fact that one of the
first post improvement initiatives usually undertaken by a now more
confident and improved soul mate is to dump Mr Ordinary and move on.

  9. My girlfriend went for an internal last week. The gyno took a look, and said, ”My that’s a large vagina, my that’s a large vagina.”
”For God’s sake” she exclaimed. ”You didn’t have to say it twice.”
    ”I didn’t” replied the gyno.

  10. That’s a bit of a crapshoot, or close to one, no?

  11. Once again, Kate sums up and an offers a profound comment on a leading news story in less than 20 words. If she were in the Senate, there would be a line-up for the public galleries.

  12. Should a current boyfriend get involved in fundraising for “physical improvements
    desired by his lady love?

no for sure, and for the reason you cite. The kind of woman who would ‘fund raise’ for physical enhancements is clearly an opportunist who uses boyfriends like tampons.

  13. Elective cosmetic surgery of all kinds shouldn’t be banned, however it should be paid for by the person not health care.

  14. Sgt Lejaune, thank you for posting that anatomic correction which I was waiting for. Even women are confused and I’ve had patients tell me that they have a problem with their “vagina”, but after I’ve inserted a speculum and can’t find anything amiss in the vagina, it turns out that they were actually referring to their vulva.
Practicing in the interior of BC, there’s a distinct lack of interest on the part of women for cosmetic vulvar alterations. In my experience, the desire for vulvar alterations is correlated to lack of use of the same part and, in the interior of BC, lack of use is not an issue. I do, however, get the same degree of excess concern about “imperfections” that women have found and have finally decided that if I’m needing to use magnification to find the “imperfection”, it’s not clinically significant. I sometimes wonder about the motivations of attractive young women that come in multiple times for me to examine a particular portion of their vulvar anatomy; are they just that much in need of reassurance or is there something else going on.
This particular posting caused me to undergo an unconscious mental review of interesting gynecologic experiences during my practice career and the most singular was a strikingly beautiful Russian woman who had the physique of an Amazon and the most powerful bulbocavernosus muscle I have ever encountered. I had a hard time resisting the urge to ask her if she could crack walnuts inserted into her anterior vagina. I was performing a bimanual exam on her after a pap and I don’t think I’ve ever had my fingers squeezed that hard. I was unable to remove my hand and, until the muscle relaxed, I was pondering whether I’d have to call for assistance and be transported to the local ER where my hand could only be freed by administering a general anesthetic to her. She found the whole incident quite amusing and I suspect she did it deliberately as a joke. Still, it made me wonder how she managed to get such incredible strength in this muscle.

  15. A new liberal fad is to reshape the vagina to better resemble Obamba. For them it’s a bit like seeing Jesus in toast.

  16. Good Doctor Loki – The female pudenda is a frightening thing, and it is why men are so fascinated by it. It is like insisting on watching a horror movie while covering your eyes with a pillow! If it can be made to look less threatening, than we’re for it. Now, what can be done with the junk in guy’s shorts?
