Vancouver-based Last First expedition hopes to “reveal the shocking effects of climate change on the Arctic.”
The temperature in Tuktoyaktuk is -1 C, and there’s a strong northeasterly wind blowing in the morning. Locals tell us it should be 15-20 C at this time of year.
“The bugs should be bouncing off your head,” explained Eilleen, who came down to the beach to visit with us.
Strange weather has defined the year, we are told. It’s been colder than usual, and the ice has been very slow in going out.

Interesting that they mention the Franklin Expedition. Didn’t they also begin their search for the Northwest Passage believing that there was no ice? It must be awfully confusing sometimes worshipping the gods of Climate Change.
Two shotguns? A simple ‘Polar Bear Dinner Bell’ would be easier to pack.

Ever notice that it’s always people from the south claiming that the arctic is warming and not the people who live there?
The people in the south believe the ones living in the arctic are too dumb to tie there own shoes, never the less the ones in the south can’t even cope without air conditioning.

Yep,and a few years ago,people from the South claimed the polar bears were near extinction, while the local Inuit said there were more than they’d ever seen in their lives.

I hope the Suzuki Foundation et al is geared up and ready to go and rescue these clowns when the going gets rough. I’d hate to think the poor bleeding taxpayer might be called upon to save their sorry butts.
The good news is that their progress is so pathetically slow and they are broadcasting their position via SatNav so the Search & Rescue folks will have many, many days to plan their rescue.

Is it just coincidence that a people who can’t speak and write their own language correctly will fall for stupid ideas like anthropogenic global warming? Unusually cold weather — clearly a sign of warming; as would be unusually warm weather, or indeed average weather. To those with the eye of faith, the signs are clear.
Oh my, their face book page has a warning:
“If you want to get into a heated discussion about global warming, please do so on your own page. I have, and will continue to, remove any disparaging or negative comments. Now, lets get back to the lads! Great job fellas!!”
These lads, with the full force of the wind and the cold against them, are tearing their guts out pulling their boat along adjacent to the beach and some folks just want to laugh at them. For shame!
The Coldest Journey, a trip across Antarctica in the middle of winter has been halted, now they are going to concentrate on the scientific study of ….snow.
Another PR stunt like so called tourists out on the pack ice.. Anything to stay in the news and control the conversation.. Who funds these clowns?
Asshats like this should be forced to put up a 1,000,000 buck bond to pay for their future rescue and transport back to leftard land.
For the sake of my own soul I do not wish them ill, but if they come to their end by their own folly, I will be unable to think that they did not deserve to do so more than the Franklin expedition members did.

As a guy who has spent some time in the arctic it looks to me that these guys are not prepared for what they might encounter. They think they can row the NW Passage in one summer?
They are in the warm part of the arctic at the moment, the western arctic. As they move east the weather cools. Bet they don’t make Gjoa Heaven before they have to give up.
Wonder which one of them is sufficiently prepared to use the shotgun if they have a bear encounter? It’s mostly grizzle bears where they are. The polar bears are out on the pack ice chasing seals.

If it happens that they require rescue, I’m sure they will insist that they only be rescued without the use of fossil fuels. To accept a fossil-fuelled rescue would be to admit that they (literally) can’t live without them.
Me thinks they are about to get a shocking wake up call on their dopey religion.
I am rooting for the Polar bears, how dare these hypocrites take Shotguns into the realm of the “endangered Polar bear”.
The RCMP should do their usual and seize these obviously unsecured guns, before the clueless rowers injure a native or animal.
I will wait for the over wintering blogs, before I laugh out loud.
They are carrying adequate supplies to overwinter?
If not then this expedition is a deliberate ripoff of search and rescue resources.
