Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

I tried counting them but I fell asleep…
Yeah just picture yerself drivin’ along minding yer own business when that mob goes blindly streaming across the road…..
Saw a car get nailed in the side by about 3 deer….2 went clean through the side window into the interior.
No wolves? No hunters? Certainly there will be no gardens and no cash crops where that herd roams.
Please remind me again why we have strict limits on deer. And if anyone knows a good place to hunt rabbits close to the south perimeter in Winnipeg please advise 🙂
Mmmmm, venison.
If you go to youtube some of the older versions are titled ‘….in the Netherlands’. That would explain the size of the herd, not many predators with 2 or 4 legs in Holland.
I’ve never seen a herd of deer that large. And the end of the video was amazing. I’m guessing that it must be some type of commercial operation, because I don’t think that deer herd up naturally in such huge numbers.
All it takes is one …
I have seen herds that large near Wynard, Sk., and almost that large in the Spiritwood, SK area.
I had a rough count of eighty that went over the fence, and then, as you all saw, they came barreling back over.
Aviator, 🙂
Not uncommon for deer to be ‘yarding’ in conditions of heavy snow cover/food scarcity, but you’ll never see that in summer.
I’d agree with Bruce it’s probably a commercial/ hunt farm type operation.
Was waiting to see an unfortunate victim catching a foot on the 2nd most top wire and flipping it over the top one, ending up suspended to succumb to an agonizing death. (But not, I guess, if someone is video taping the event). Have run across more than one such instance in my lifetime.
It’s probably a protected area where they’re fed.. but I’ve seen herds of 40ish in the wild before.
Back a few years, when I was pulling auto-parts out the US, I frequently saw herds of 80-150-200, at least 500 over a ten mile stretch beside I94 just east of the I69 junction…..Marshall Mi. during winter months…..grazing on corn stubble like so many cattle.
It is said there are more deer in Michigan than people…..IMHO a genuine possibility.
Once I had a deer running alongside, on I90/I94 (Ryan Exp) between 290 and I55, right in the centre of Chicago mid-day……
Oh great, step into the woods, get loaded up with deer ticks and bring ’em all right back inside, just great.
The expression “poetry in motion” is overused, but in this case?
I’d love to put that on a loop and run it on a wall mounted flat screen TV, like a moving painting.
It might have been commercial, but if so, the fences seem rather low.
I have seen whitetail in groups that large near Dundurn, Sask. If there is a good feeding area, they will gravitate to it.
Anybody notice the man moving on the porch of the house, centre?
The land owner will have a well aerated field by the time that herd is finished.
We have always had white tail in our area but not in large groups like that. A new twist is resident elk. Our valley in Creston is fairly people populated but a elk population in three herds built up to about 500 animals.
I was driving across the flatlands and 6 elk ran across the highway and then had to jump a fence. The last one simply ran into the fence, backed off and repeated this 4 times. Big animals, she was knocking hell out of the fence. Finally gave up and jumped the fence on the 5th attempt. This wasn’t a panic situation as it was early morning and nothing was threatening the elk. I chaulked off to simple stubbornness.
On another occasion I was flagged down by an Australian tourist who had hit an elk and wanted my help to drag the animal off the road. It was still alive but the tourist was so hyped by the incident he wanted to grab on and start yarding. I had to stop him as I explained the dying animal could kill him with one kick.
I drove through our local park one night on the way home. I wanted to see how the roads were as I was planning on running the next morning.
I came across a herd of deer which must have numbered 20-30. They were spread out all over the golf course. All those heads turning to look was a very creepy situation!
Doesn’t the owner of that house know that it’s disturbing the delicate feelings of the wildlife? Call the cops. Tear it down!
80 deer and everyone a strong supporter of gun control.
80,000 pounds of venison, but don’t worry Obama has enlarged the food stamp program.
As feeding yourself off the fat of the land is just so… primitive.
And may also, involve those politically incorrect, sustenance implements called firearms.
It’s much better to be dependent on the government to provide your food.
Yeah, I counted them on the way back…82.
