  8. northwest Houston [TX] community of Oak Forest is the first neighborhood in the country being trained and equipped by the Armed Citizen Project, a Houston nonprofit that is giving away free shotguns to single women and residents of neighborhoods with high crime rates.
    While many cities have tried gun buy-backs and other tactics in the ongoing national debate on gun control, the nonprofit and its supporters say gun giveaways to responsible owners are actually a better way to deter crime. The organization, which plans to offer training classes in Dallas, San Antonio, and Tucson, Arizona, in the next few weeks, is working to expand its giveaways to 15 cities by the end of the year, including Chicago and New York.

  10. TEL AVIV, Israel — Israel’s military fumed Monday over the discovery that the U.S. government had revealed details of a top-secret Israeli military installation in published bid requests.
    The Obama administration had promised to build Israel a state-of-the-art facility to house a new ballistic-missile defense system, the Arrow 3. As with all Defense Department projects, detailed specifications were made public so that contractors could bid on the $25 million project. The specifications included more than 1,000 pages of details on the facility, ranging from the heating and cooling systems to the thickness of the walls.
    “If an enemy of Israel wanted to launch an attack against a facility, this would give him an easy how-to guide. This type of information is closely guarded and its release can jeopardize the entire facility,” said an Israeli military official who commented on the publication of the proposal but declined to be named because he wasn’t authorized to discuss the facility. He declined to say whether plans for the facility have been altered as a result of the disclosure.
    “This is more than worrying, it is shocking,” he said.

When I actually think about it and look at the incompetence displayed by so many of the Obama administration (Obama, Rice, Clinton, Biden, Holder, Schulman and the list goes on and on)…. it would be surprising if they didn’t screw it up. I suppose that I could look at it as a conspiracy but I tend to think of “Never assume conspiracy when mere incompetence will suffice.”

  17. I’ve used Ghostery for years – Highly recommended.
    Sadly the latest version incorporates only “opt-out”, i.e., user intervention now required to permanently block trackers, web beacons and so forth. Previous versions blocked all snoopers by default. To Kate’s credit SDA has only two benign creatures – Sitemeter and a Twitter button. The others you mention are from linked sites.
    I’d recommend another browser enhancement to block annoying adverts – AdBlockPlus

  26. Billy Porter won a Tony Award last night for his work in Cyndi Lauper’s Kinky Boots. I heard part of his acceptance speech on the radio this morning in which he was praising his Christian family for their unwavering support; by the sounds of it, he’s gay but he says his family have been wonderful Christians and have stood by him through everything.
    I thought it would be good to hear the whole speech but it’s nowhere to be found on the Internet. Here’s the message that comes up when you try to play it: “An error occurred. Please try again later. Learn more.”
    When you click on “Learn more,” one of the reasons given for a video getting an error message is: “A video is being removed, or having other issues.”
    Hmmm … a Tony Award winner praises his “Christian” family and his acceptance speech is deep-sixed. All the other winners’ speeches, by the looks of it, are posted at YouTube.
    But not Billy Porter’s.
    It just won’t do, will it, to have Christians shown to be the compassionate, loving people they are?
