A search for millions that were allegedly embezzled from the Palestinian Authority has led to Canada – and raised questions about how the prime suspect obtained Canadian citizenship.

How could a man working in the West Bank as a senior adviser to one of the most high-profile figures in the world, Yasser Arafat, manage to obtain Canadian citizenship?

Could it have anything to do with who was the chair of the House of Commons citizenship and immigration committee at the time?

It came about, Bioniche president Graeme McRae said, after he was told of a potential investor by Joe Fontana, then a London, Ont. MP and chair of the House of Commons citizenship and immigration committee. Mr. Fontana is now London’s mayor. The Canadian government, Mr. McRae said, was helping the Palestinian company look for investments.
“He said there’s these very interesting people who want to invest in Canadian businesses – ‘ethical Canadian businesses,’ is the way it was expressed,” Mr. McRae said in telephone interview.

  2. It’s weird.
A few of my left-leaning friends have posted the following on Facebook:
    http://www.edmontonjournal.com/health/doctor+letter+patients/8176181/story.html
Completely oblivious that their American heartthrob is in the middle of implementing the very same things they’re lamenting may happen in Alberta. Of course, these are the same people who were relieved when the pseudo-liberal Redford got elected instead of that racist, homophobic, (insert non-bullying bullying name-call here) Danielle Smith.

  3. I’d have far more trust in Danielle Smith to deal with the problems of Alberta’s health care system than the current moonbat premier. One of the problems that Alberta has in getting physicians is that it takes a lot of money to convince people to live in a climate like Edmonton experiences. Also, there’s the high cost of living in Alberta and I was floored when I heard how much some of my Calgary colleagues were paying in overhead.
Undoubtedly, Alberta now has a very bloated medical bureaucracy but such non-essential positions are never cut. Instead, blame is placed on doctors and their exorbitant salaries — I don’t get paid overtime when I work over 100 hours weekly whereas nurses aren’t even allowed to work the hours that physicians routinely work. There will be a time when doctors will just have had enough and decide to simultaneously take a long holiday and let the “nurse practitioners” deal with the complex cases. We don’t go on strike, we just get burned out enough that we decide it’s time for a long break and, if it happens simultaneously, it might give people an idea of how fed up doctors are.
I was thinking of moving to Alberta if we got a commie government here in BC in a couple of months, but the best move might be to try someplace outside N. America if I do decide to move.

  4. Hey you leave those Edmonton hospitals alone. The system works just fine! My best customers! And yes, Loki, you ask I’ll bring the big car and a blanket, you can sleep on the back seat between hospitals. Very comfortable. No children delivered on that seat yet, but there mighta been a few conceived…
    😉

  5. The way things are going, Fontana won’t be mayor of London or any other city before long.
He’s been charged with theft for paying for his son’s wedding with federal government funds. Typical Liberal.

  7. Your feel-good story of the day:
Man found dead hanging by a rope off an 18-story Sacramento high-rise appears to have been a graffiti tagger
A man who was found dead hanging by a rope off an 18-story Sacramento high-rise appears to have been a graffiti tagger, Sacramento police said Monday.
Fire Battalion Chief Marc Bentovoja said the man appears to have died accidentally of asphyxiation when he created a harness from the rope and lowered himself down the east side of the office building.
“From everything we can tell, he didn’t have any special rope rappelling equipment on, climbing equipment or anything like that,” he said. “He appeared to be looped into the rope.”
Police department spokeswoman Michele Gigante said Monday afternoon that investigators found a can of spray paint on the part of a balcony where the ropes were anchored. A tool for etching glass was found on the ground below his body, she said.

“Fire destroys top of wind turbine near Goderich”
“The wind farm operators aren’t certain what started the fire, but neighbours speculated it was a mechanical or electrical problem because the blaze started where all the gears and electronics are located.
Although the fire did not burn the turbine to the ground, it’s expected the turbine will have to be torn down for safety reasons.”

  10. Attention, melanin-deprived gun-nuts! Mark Karlin is super smart and he’s totally onto you!
“Call this Freudian psychobabble analysis, but when you add it into the mix of just angry white males who want their guns to show that they are still top dog on the political, social and marital hierarchy, you got a good percentage of the psychologically need gun owners. A gun, particularly assault weapons and lethal militarized handguns, are at least two things: a prosthetic dick and a sign that even unemployed white guys still rule the Western World and sit at the head of the kitchen table.”

  15. I wandered over to the ‘muslims of calgary’ website to read their feelings about the London jihadists. There was nothing, they are likely too angry to write at this time.
But it wasn’t a waste of time. I did find these tips to a happy marriage on their homepage, and they were not put up in the 7th century, they were put up 3 days ago.
Under the heading ” The Rights of the Wife Upon Her Husband”
” It is obligatory for husbands to spend on their wives, on the condition that the wife makes herself available to her husband. If she refuses him or rebels, then she is not entitled to that spending.”
“Verily you have taken them on the security of Allaah, and intercourse with them has been made lawful unto you by words of Allaah.”
” In case of multiple wives, the husband must be fair and just to all of them, treat them fairly in terms of expenditure, housing, time and all other items of which the husband is capable. Being biased or even inclined and preferring one wife over the other is considered one of the major sins.”
” Among the things to which the Lawgiver (Allaah Almighty) drew attention in this matter is the prohibition of hitting or beating in a severe manner.”
