The federal Liberal leadership race was supposed to help the third-place party connect with a new, younger generation of voters and expand its shrunken base.
But an analysis of those who’ve registered to vote thus far suggests it’s done neither.
Almost 60 per cent are 50 years of age or older.

Ah yes, the sometimes condescending, but always superior visions of The Westmount Liberals. Riding off into the sunset, are they?
To be replaced by…what was that again”
Oh yes, the new reality: realistic, pragmatic, cosmopolitan, global, and forward-thinking.
Where the hell did you guys find that?
I’m not 50 yet, and I voted. In true Liberal style, I set up multiple e-mail accounts so I could vote several times for Justin. I want him to win by such a majority over anyone remotely qualified that the party will have no choice but to bend to his every desire.
I can’t wait to watch the train wreck it becomes when he’s at the helm.
And to think that he’ll be able to get Canadians to switch back from the NDP – who are only just now starting to claw away at their enormous debt – just long enough to ensure that party’s demise as well.
A vote (or more) for Trudeau is a twofer.
I have to agree with Ibbotson and Bricker, something I rarely do. The Liberal version of Canada has changed drastically, and they ,in their sheltered enclaves believe that someday we’ll experience an epiphany and fall in love with them all over again, just like we did in 1968.
Justin Trudeau is a good bellwether,an indicator of how good our education system has been at developing critical thinking skills. And if the system has done it’s job, there is no way in hell Canadians will vote a completely unqualified individual to the PM’s office.
But if that system has nurtured emotionalism and propaganda over clarity of thought, I suppose Trudeau will do quite well and possibly even form the Opposition.
We shall see in 2015,during which time Liberal shills like the two authors of the “Laurentian elite” will try their very best to convince us that Justin has grown wiser and more worldly and has overcome his bipolar disorder to become, wait for it…… Canada’s Obama.
The Libranos have not yet faced and accepted the hard truth that Canadians have recognized them to be a den of power-hungry, lying thieves. We’re in no hurry to give them the keys any time soon. Certainly, they will remain in the frozen hinterland until they make good on their commitment to pay us back every nickel of the Adscam dollars. No parole for Libranos until they demonstrate some earnest remorse.
The Globe has been beside itself for some time now about the decline of their beloved Liberals.
Though I’m loathe to put any bread on Ibbitson’s table, it’s worth 14 bucks to read a list of rationalizations why it’s now acceptable for good liberals to ingratiate themselves to the Jacobins in the New Democrats.
FWIW, I’ll be voting for Martin Cauchon, for old time’s sake.
I’m sure the ‘Shiny Pony’ will ‘pony up’ from his trust fund and make the Adscam manure stench go away.
But who knows with the “L’Oreal elite” only the hairdresser knows for sure.
Nice is hair, doesn’t quite make it a national policy plank…

“For instance, there are a number of instances where dozens, or even hundreds, of registered voters all claim the same email address.”
Old habits die hard for Liberals.
No wonder The Fancy Lad looks depressed, he is constantly being groped by old worn out Liberal Cougars and chased around the malls in southern Ontario by a herd of Blue Rinse Grannies trying to feel him up….Clip from the Cabin Boy https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nycs5Rryykw
General Lee, you’re a piker, I voted at least 10 times for the dauphin.. in the hope he actually gets anointed.. I’ve also made sure I have unimpeded access to the TV during any debates he has with Harper..
Another Fancy Lad Clip. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZRwf5hfns4o
Registration ends today, one last hurrah regardless of who wins, one last election cycle where Harper enjoys a split opposition.

I don’t want to be cynical, but boy oh boy is it hard not to observe that at the very moment in our history when we have the most women in the Senate, Congress is perceived to be pathetic, bickering, easily manipulated and powerless, and I’ll risk the blowback and say that those are all stereotypes of women. Easy, HuffPo, I know it’s not causal, I am saying the reverse: that if some field keeps the trappings of power but loses actual power, women enter it in droves and men abandon it like the Roanoke Colony. Again we must ask the question: if power seeking men aren’t running for Senate, where did they go? Meanwhile all the lobbyists and Wall Street bankers are men, isn’t that odd? “Women aren’t as corrupt or money hungry.” Yes, that’s been my experience with women as well.

It’s too bad, in a way, but the Liberal Party looks like history. Leadership conventions and the associated sale of memberships raise cash and solidify commitment while raising the profile of the party. The current Liberal smozzle offers nothing of the sort. They are falling over themselves to elect the person with the least substance, so little substance that conservatives are cheating, with multiple votes, to get him elected.
Heres hoping Justin wins, just watching Harper evicerate verbally this fly fart in qustion period will be a ratings winner for 396. Canada has moved on/grown up, young people are leaving the liberal arts/environmental studies as fast as environmental companies are going broke. Think how lucky us Canadians are that the “green weenie” Stepon Madick Dion didn’t get a chance to implement the “green shaft”, Canada would now be Greece without the Acropolis. It is over Lieberals, your money stealing ways, your doing the bidding of certain rich families at the expense of all Canadians doesn’t work under Harper. Ask yourselves one question there liberals, how many money theft scandals involving more than a 16 dollar orange juice have happened under Harpers conservatives? It matters not what the purveyors of RED INK, the Globe and Star say anymore, matters not what Manson eyes Mulcair says, or the CBC, Canada, under the Harper conservatives is about business, and business trumps stupidity and fuzzy feelings every time. Make better use of your time there liberal sychophants, go check the status of your Solyndra and Fisker shares while your watching your carbon credits turn into carbon debits.
Pay attention conservatives – unless Harper et co recognize the fact that the trudeau represents a real political threat, of a type they are not accustomed to dealing with, and come up with a entirely new game plan then you all will be singing ‘Dear PM Trudeau….’ to the tune of O Canada come the next election.
He is a git.
He is stupid and an airhead.
He couldn’t organise a trip to Mcdonalds.
He has nice Hair.
None of it will matter. He will win if the Harper runs their standard campaign.
For the sake of Canada, get off your posturing about the fact that he is so stupid that Canadians would never vote for him. They would as most still get their info from the MSM and coupled with the ‘hippie historical narrative’ that boomers have created in their mind over his Pa’s great accomplishment they would vote for him in a heartbeat.
You can’t sit on you a$$ and pontificate about all the nonsense that you know about him, you were never going to vote for him were you – so that knowledge changes nothing.
Don’t underestimate stupidity as it has the unnerving ability to always hit you when you least expect it.
Trudeau is stupidly dangerous, if he wins the damage will be severe..
Go to ‘leftie’ events, go to univerisity talks, engage lefties at the office, in the restaurant, wherever you hear their stupidity being uttered. Politely, but clearly be prepared to expose trudeau to them – don’t attack them or their ideology as that will just end the discussion. Focus on Trudeau, make his name equate to idiot in people’s mind.
Start now, the road is long….
“…be prepared to expose trudeau to them…make his name equate to idiot…”
Yup.
Trudeau, the clown – who is so progressive that he doesn’t think that female genital mutilation or ‘honour’ killings should be called barbaric.
Trudeau, the irresolute – who is for all for registering hunting guns, but maybe not right now.
Trudeau, the ethics-challenged leech – who is sucking up tax-payers’ dollars speaking at Community Colleges at the same time he’s sucking up taxpayers’ dollars as an MP.
Trudeau the, etc., etc,…..you can all add to the list.
CBC, CTV, The Star, or the Gazette are not going to do that for us.
there’s got to be some hay made on his having stood up in Parliament, flounced his hair, and “oh you piece of sh1t” to a cabinet minister. I think of him as “Piece of Sh1t” Trudeau so I don’t forget that low life classless act, he is not PM material.
Fear not,Frenchie. When it comes time to hit the bricks,Conservatives will be out in record numbers in 2015, carrying the message door-to-door,just like we did last time.
Trudeau’s followers don’t like to get out of the basement much, so Maggie’s baby might carry Twitter, but not the real world.
The debates should be a massacre, with Mulcair and Harper versus the highly excitable Trudeau.
Just one,”you piece of shit” shriek from JT should be enough to sink his rowboat permanently.
Why doesn’t the LPC just run the coronation, sorry, I meant the leadership “election”, on Twitter – Pony’s Followers being limited to 140 character concepts can elect a new Librano face boy. Life/politics will become simpler for the social media sandbox once they have a leader who truncates public policy agendas in 140 characters.
“For instance, there are a number of instances where dozens, or even hundreds……..”
So could this be considered the Liberal version of “robo calls”……no, no, they’d never permit something that looks like cheating to occur!!
I’m at a loss as to why and how this information is even out there. The registration process has not even concluded and no votes have yet been cast. The actual legitimate vote total will be some subset of total eligible vote, assuming that voter turn-out will be something less than 100 percent (may 60 to 70 percent — somewhere in there), which I think is a reasonable assumption.
With all due respect to Canadian Press, they didn’t do the “analysis” — couldn’t, in fact. IMO, it could only have been provided by someone with access to the data (which was actually sort of acknowledged in the last paragraph of the article). Perhaps someone with an axe to grind over the nonsense that has gone on thus far? I don’t know, but it really does really resemble the Bricker-Ibbitson Laurentian Consensus hypothesis.
We shall see. As a total outsider, who would not, under any circumstance, vote for this outfit, I am tired of them pretending to be something that they are not. In this regard, I found M. Chretien’s quackishness this past week to be particularly sad, even by his bottom-of-the-barrel standards.
A little off-topic but,the NDP leadership convention was a complete mess. Their voting was hacked, there was 2 hour delays, people gave up trying, everything favoured Mulcair.
He won,but the NDP did want an investigation. They got one, details were never disclosed. The company (SCTYL) that handled the on-line voting said that they were making progress identifying the problems and the culprits. They told the NDP that if they wanted a deeper investigation to pony up some cash.
The Mulcair-led NDP said no,they were OK with the final results. Nothing to see here folks.
At least the Liberals won’t have to hack their own vote to get the results they want.
I set up multiple e-mail accounts so I could vote several times for Justin. I want him to win by such a majority over anyone remotely qualified that the party will have no choice but to bend to his every desire.
You’re an idiot. The Liberals have Findlay on tap and you want to put Justin in charge? You realize if he wins he’s going to become PM?
I couldn’t agree with you more Frenchie. It beggars belief that anyone wishing and hoping for the shiny pony to win the leadership with the belief he will either be the end of the liberal party or that he will be trounced in debates, etc. by Stephen Harper needs a wake up call.
Dream on. At first I thought the giggles and excitement from my neighborhood/office/associates/friends would pass. It hasn’t. One acquaintance has stated he sees the Trudeau dunce ruling Canada for the next 25 years after a majority government in 2015. He is not alone in that prognosis either. The fruits and nuts and the ‘minorities’ in B.C. alone could knock the Conservatives out of the running unless we get to work right now. The Grandpapa has been following it all closely and his words are: he is happy he will not be around to see this great country he helped to build turned into just another third world dung heap by the Trudeau marxists.

I agree as well, it’s one thing (and fun to mess with them), but the old saying about playing with fire rings true.
I personally stayed out of it.

50 years of age or older and obviously suffering from dementia as they’ve forgotten the depredations of Kim Justin-il’s dad who made our lives miserable in the ’70s and early ’80s.
Pierre Elliott Trudeau: still The Worst Thing That Ever Happened To Canada, from which we are still recovering.
Nevertheless, I agree with Frenchie77 and elisabeth.m in that some airhead voters will vote for perceived superficial personality qualities rather than their own futures.
I rarely agree with Warren Kinsella but he’s right that the Liberals do have a chance in 2015, especially if Harper somehow screws up badly.
Not a Librano fan, like most of the posters on here. The phenomenon of a marketing effort aimed at a youthful demographic attracting an older one is not confined to Liberals or politics. Honda aimed the Element at a youthful demographic, advertising the vehicle as a sort of Generation Y staff car. However, the average buyer turned out to be 42 years old.
