Consumer spending in the U.S. rose in January even as incomes dropped by the most in 20 years, showing households were weathering the payroll-tax increase by socking away less money in the bank.
Household purchases, which account for about 70 percent of the economy, climbed 0.2 percent…

Probably buying guns and ammo…
When gold was worth $20/oz a man could buy a good handmade wool suit for an oz of gold. Today it still takes 1 oz of gold to buy a good handmade wool suit. Gold did not increase in value our paper money has been made worthless. Moral of the story, our money has been debased and is quickly become worthless under our Trudopian Just Society, and Johnson’s Great Society. In the end the Turd Polishers will beggar us all as we are compliant slaves. We demand poofters and dandies like Justin Trudeau as leaders even tho his old man gave us the worst dry holing in our history. No citizens in the streets with pitch forks and buckets of hot tar and bags of feathers yet.
If you watch the composites, the things that have been constantly in high demand and provide decent ROI are gold, silver, cache-able foods (freeze dry industry has maxed out capacity) Gun and ammo makers.
What more do you need to know about an economy where the markets are abandoning the dollar for gold, petro fuel, arms and food.
“Excluding food and energy costs, prices climbed 1.3 percent in January from the same month in 2012, the smallest year-to- year gain since April 2011.”
So to calculate the inflation rate they excluded food and energy. Yeah, because it’s not essential to buy food or furnace oil or gasoline or keep the lights on! If food and energy prices were included in the inflation index the rate of inflation would be much higher, which means actual consumer spending has gone down.
Lies, damn lies and statistics.
It’s not going to last much longer. It will come crashing down and many will, stupidly, be surprised. Yes .. guns ammo, dry goods, supplies, food storage, cash on hand etc. Prepare like it’s going to be an earth quake where your house is still standing.
Bingo, my Texas neighbor. You can’t even find an AR or AK, or any ammo for either one heya in Louisi-Yana. My last order from Cabela’s has yet to arrive.
If a new suit costs about 1700 bucks and an ounce of gold cost about 1700 bucks, … and if a new suit will apparently will always cost about the same as an ounce of gold, what’s the difference between buying a 1700 dollar ounce of gold to pay for a 1700 dollar suit or just paying for it will 1700 buck in cash?
I am gold challenged. As I see it, only when the currency completely collapses and a new currency comes along to replace it, will gold then buy you some of the new currency and you can start the cycle over again. But then, knowing how government works, there will be much corruption and perhaps a confiscation of privately held gold. It happened before … in the USA.
Um, you could have bought that $1700 oz of gold for about $250 in 1999. Name another asset that’s returned over 500% in the last 14 years. Even today, the odds are that gold will see $4000 before it sees $1000 again.
And, so long as you have a convenient boating accident, the gov’t won’t be able to confiscate your gold or your guns.
Zimbabwe.
If government does not know you possess property, it can not steal it.
That is why gold goes up.
Obama sells guns.
His administration has sold more weapons to the general public than any before.
Best investment S&W ever did not make.
Kevin B , boating accident? I handed them in to the RCMP, honest I did, its not my fault they failed to record that legal transaction and advise the LGR nitwits way back when
Or maybe they did, who could know?
Especially since that jerk, who accepted my tokens, has since had to resign from the force, to avoid criminal charges for stealing evidence and false testimony.
Maybe they are gonna come for my unregistered Weller Soldering Pistol?
Or my matching set of paint stripping guns.
Canada needs to up our gold production, Obama is the best thing to happen to gold in years, after the next 4 years gold should remain high for a decade or two., its in our national interest to get mining..
‘Less money in the bank’. Yeah, what economy needs capital?

Hell,Ratt. My back-order for simple .223LR (small amount,100) has been since November,2012. Seems you all Yanks have been buying up everything! Mind you,my grandadie’s old .410 still has plenty of shells left, and it works. Now where can I get some .30-30 and .357s? Before next Christmas?
What incentive would Americans have to accumulate dollars in the bank?
Real inflation is apparent, in fact the increase in consumer spending may be no such thing.
Perhaps it is the real measure of inflation?
