When the Atlantic hurricane season starts next June 1, it will have been 2,777 days since the last time an intense (that is a Category 3, 4 or 5) hurricane made landfall along the US coast (Wilma in 2005). Such a prolonged period without an intense hurricane landfall has not been observed since 1900.

The problem is they’ve renamed the scam “climate change” and so anything can be blamed on it. It will never go away either because the climate always changes and always has which is a key part of the scam. The other part involves a massive group of people not putting on their critical thinking caps.

No it contradicts the moonbats “Everything is Scary!” position.
It’s normal for the climate to change, but some seem to think it should have abruptly stopped changing in 1980. (That was the year the climate, in Canada at least, finally reached perfection.)

I take full credit. I started bike commuting just prior to the 2012 hurricane season and dramatically reduced my carbon footprint. You are all very welcome.
Interesting how the CAGW crowd has been predicting increasing numbers of hurricanes whereas the opposite has happened. What is going on now is more consistent with a global cooling trend than CAGW. Even more interesting for Pielke Jr. to be publishing this as he’s a self-identified lukewarmer unlike his father who’s a well known skeptic.
So, if things get back to normal, then the CAGW crowd will be all over it but I suspect that things won’t get back to normal. Tornadoes were at an all time low this year, again consistent with a cooling trend.
The energy to produce hurricanes and tornadoes has to come from somewhere and it looks like all of Trenbeth’s missing heat is being radiated into space instead of warming the oceans or increasing the energy of spinning masses of air.
I really wish that the warmers were right as I much prefer a warmer planet. It’s one thing to brag about how one mastered Canadian winters in ones youth when -40 degree highs for a month straight was nothing and who needed to go to a gym when there were feet of snow to shovel off driveways and sidewalks. Of course the cold was always an excuse to have a drink to warm up and my cross country skiing favorite was Southern Comfort which eliminated the need to bring along any food given its high sugar content. Now that I’m getting older I no longer look at the snow covered driveway as a great workout opportunity but think instead of running along a Florida beach watching the pelicans overhead.
I guess the one good think about living in the snow and ice for half the year is that it does repel moonbats. Just thinking that the next 30 years are going to be more of the same is not a pleasant thought.
I still haven’t heard any pro-Global Warming/Climate Change supporter explain how the Ice Ages occurred, and how the Earth managed to subsequently warm up and melt all the ice without man-made CO2 and other pollutants.
There have been many major fluctuations in the weather over the past 30,000 years, and until and unless someone can categorically explain the past (using data and scientific methods which are demonstrably provable), I think they have no business trying to predict the future. While I agree that cutting pollution is a good thing, all of this “Chicken Little” nonsense like the reaction to hurricane Sandy isn’t helpful at all. And the so-called “green” energy solutions are quickly proving to have their own major flaws; wind power produces far, far less energy than predicted and kills off birds (including endfangered species) at an amazing rate; solar power can’t be produced economically (witness Solyndra and others going bankrupt even *with* government aid); and both wind and solar require lots and lots of real estate.
