Ontario pays FIT tarriffs to produce electricity it doesn’t need because high energy costs have tanked the economy. Ontario builds new technology gas plants to back up the wind power when it doesn’t blow. Ontario provides subsidies to people to reduce usage so they can sell more power at a loss to the US. This year they also started paying industry to use more power. Make more, back it up, sell at a loss, pay some to use less, pay others to use more. McGuinty is a genious.

**** you McGuninty. Seriously **** you. I just got my latest hydro bill with “ToU” in it, being that my PUC is a non-profit, their rates are lower than Ontario Hydro. It’s still insane. At peak I was paying 11.13c/KWH.

And there’s no one burning effigies or storming Queen’s Park?
There’s a wee problem with the arithmetic. The price on the IESO website is always cents per kilowatt hour, so rather than $5.76 per MWh, Ontario actually paid $57.60 per MWh to get rid of the free, green (blah, blah, blah) energy.
November 23 was a Friday – I remember the prior record was on a Sunday. The losses on the selling of power were mega millions in a single day.
I was going to go sailing in Lake Ontario last Friday, but them fans done stole all my wind! I’m going to file a complaint with the OHRC for compensation. Ontario clearly has enough money to throw down the toilet…so why not some for me?
Dalty McGuinty went to great lengths to prove he’s much more than a fart in a windstorm but turned out to be a one man economic wrecking ball, presiding over several scandals no Conservative government would ever get away with.

Wind costs in Ont is 15.7c per KWH Hydro is 2-3c. If you go to their sight you can see that hydro is idle when the wind is up. They sell into the US for less than it costs to make.Some one in Ont. is stupid.

Canuck66 asks the $64 billion dollar question. Why arent there effigies burning in Queens Park? Because nobody who votes in the GTA cares, is why. They aren’t having their rates jacked and their neighbourhoods arent having giant fans erected in them.
Remember McGuinty cancelled the gas generation plants in Oakville to get two seats? Same thin happening here. Pillage the countryside because they aren’t going to vote liberal anyway, pay off the city because they will.
The thirty year propaganda campaign didn’t hurt the Liberala either
Can anyone imagine the stink if a private utility applied to a utilities commission for a rate increase because: “we have to have surplus cheap power from NG to condition the grids from unreliable and expensive wind farm power and we have to pay to get rid of the surplus because we would pay more in penalties to our wind farms and NG plants to shut them down and luckily our most expensive energy only contributes a smidgen and only when the sun shines….”
Are there still “conservatives” who are alright with public utilities run by politicians pimping the green vote?
So when is loserontario going to start sucking money from queerbec?

The real scandal highlighted by Auditor General and others is the loss to Ont on exported electricity. over $400m in 2011.
Ont pays 13.5c kwh subsidy to wind power, which replaces hydro dumped over Niagara for about 2.8c kwh, then exports the excess to US for what it will bear, sometimes 3.3 c sometimes Americans are paid to take it.
A business operating in such a fashion would not last long, McGuinty’s Liberals last as long as urban Ontarians will vote for them. Next time out even that will not save them.

Reminds me of an old joke we had in our industry. Two photographers are talking and one shakes his head, complaining that he was losing money on every wedding he photographed.
The second photographer says, “Well, what are you going to do?”
First photographer: “It’s obvious. I’m going to have to book more weddings.”

Hey, why not install giant electric heaters at the base of every bird masher? We’ll at least have some nice warm winters.

The stupidity behind this whole province destroying fiasco just leaves me stuck for words. One walk in the snow with Suzuki and McGuinty set the province back to have not status.
