What’s The Opposite Of Diversity?

University!

On October 31, Myers was officially given a “warning” by SUNY Oswego, though one that came with strings attached. Myers is now required to complete an “education assignment,” under the guidance of his journalism professor, “to share with other students in journalism classes that will share what you have learned from your experience.” Further, he is required to write apology letters to SUNY Oswego hockey coach Ed Gosek, as well as to the three coaches he contacted for his assignment.

  1. Ahhhh……did I miss something here…what did he do?…who did he defame? Or did he get too close to uncovering a scandal the brass is aware of?
Is this an indication that this/these coaches are abusing minors or something?
After Penn State how do you know?

  2. sasquatch…”Puff piece”…that’s what got him in trouble…he offended all journalists by implying they write puff pieces.
    Such racism, dontcha know?

  3. The PC university does what it can to remove what little credibility still existing in the MSM. It’s like they have a shared goal.
This student should apply for work at Breitbart.

  4. Big deal … a proto muckraker starts a blatant fishing expedition aimed at one of the university elite. The powers that be rip him a new one and then make him grovel for forgiveness.
    Lesson learned … no?
Do not offend the people who own your sorry @ss.
Now if he had gone out to find some way of smearing a conservative politician ….. ?

  5. I think he is getting some value out of his tuition. The lessons he is being taught by this incident are that the patients are in charge of the asylum and that if he truly wants to seek and report the truth the USA is not the place to do it.

  6. Not the most articulate e-mail but it’s not like he asked the coaches if they were Republicans or pedophiles. Just about anything these days offends someone.

  7. Can’t the administration just skip the preliminaries and go straight to the rack and the hot pokers? Inquisitors these days are such pussies! Sheeesh.

  8. It looks to me like he pursued his assignment with the same level of vigor and integrity as top journalists in the mainstream media.
He should have received an award. I mean, it’s not like he attached remotely controlled model rocket engines to a truck’s fuel tank to initiate an explosion. He didn’t edit a 911 call to paint someone as a racist.

  9. Bad journalism practice to falsely represent yourself in the hope of getting a better story. If he had said he was doing the profile research as part of his class instead of indicating his unrelated job he would not have gotten in trouble. As far as the compelled speech as punishment, that is wrong imo. Hopefully he can learn his error and then honestly wish to apologize for this behaviour.

  10. Myers is less offensive than half the people on Twitter. At least if he had said something like I hate black lesbians we’d have something to go on. Now they’re just scraping the bottom of the barrel.

  13. @Iain – Agreed. His use of his position in the OPA was dishonest (funny how he didn’t mention it was an *intern* position). That was a blatant attempt to look official and more important then he really is. The other charges, however, were crap.

  14. Actually I thought there were a number of valuable lessons (seriously) that I hope he learned:
    1. Don’t go on fishing expeditions, especially without knowing the waters you’re fishing in and who’s driving the boat.
    2. Sports at colleges/universities is big business …. brings in big money from alumni and sponsors. Don’t mess with sports at colleges/universities unless you are prepared for the consequences.
    3. Jocks (no disrespect intended) stick together, especially coaches. Offend one, offend them all.
This is how the real world works. The sooner he understands this, the better off he’ll be.

  15. David from Michigan. Yeah thats how it works in Obamaland. Seriously, you think this kid is to blame? George Orwell couldn’t have written this script on his worst hangover. I would quit that pop stand so fast, no degree is worth that.

  17. @ Chris: No blame intended. He was naive….. maybe because he’s from Australia. His punishment was to “to share with other students in journalism classes what you have learned from your experience.” My points are what he should share!!

Well blow me down and call me Miffy!
Figure skaters, or ballet dancers perhaps, but Jocks?
