  2. I agree that this is an absurdly bad decision, but you might want to change the title:
    “You Olympians, however, know you didn’t get here solely on your own power. For most of you, loving parents, sisters or brothers, encouraged your hopes, coaches guided, communities built venues in order to organize competitions. All Olympians stand on the shoulders of those who lifted them. We’ve already cheered the Olympians, let’s also cheer the parents, coaches, and communities. All right!”

  5. Even subscribers to Obama’s / fake Pocahontas’s crazy theory that government is responsible for all wealth America’s wealth is in decline. Which by Obama’s own damn standard means he’s done a terrible job.

I give full points to the athletes competing but I still get a chuckle over the big “scandal” that NBC actually showed a “gasp” nipple being exposed in an underwater shot during women’s water polo. The fact that Americans can still get their nickers in a knot over a frikkin’ exposed nipple or two is amusing to say the least. Mind you that is the opinion of someone who appreciates the female form but doesn’t get in a tizzy over exposed flesh. My wife actually fed children with nipples attached to boobies and I didn’t freak out or have conniptions.

    Of course, Obama was actually referring to the roads and bridges that businesses are located on/near, so yeah, your Olympic medal analogy actually upholds this obvious truth — if you’ve won a gold medal, you (like business owners everywhere) didn’t manage to do that all by your lonesome — you were aided, in ways great and small, direct and indirect, purposefully and otherwise, by your family, your friends, your coaches, your sponsors, your communities, and state and society writ large.
    “So as of this writing, swimmer Missy Franklin—who’s a high school student—is already on the hook for almost $14,000.”
    Not really, unless she manages to earn over $388,350 this year, which is the threshold for the 35% top income tax rate that the ATR chose to use in its calculations, AND chooses not to write off any of her prize money (paid by the US Olympic Committee, by the way) against her training expenses.

  12. If you take the medal, you still pay some tax, the article said $2 tax on the bronze medal itself since it is a prize.

  13. They’re all professional athletes who work for the US government anyway, no surprise the government wants a piece when they win something. What goes around comes around.
    Let them be actual amateurs, un-funded by taxpayer dollars, -then- I’ll protest the outrageous (and STUPID!) taxing of non-US income.
    And Davenport? Barry’s going to lose this election due in no small part to that slip when he said what he actually believes. Its an obscenely anti-freedom belief, and its also plain old wrong.

  14. Hey Andrew – there’s a lot of truth to what Romoney says, I’m no athletic giant but I tri 😉 and I could not have done it with out the support of my wife, family, employer & community. So go stuff a sock in it.

  17. The converse is also true. I don’t have an Olympic Gold, and it’s someone’s fault, obviously not mine. I’ll give you all a pass on that, because I don’t really care about a medal. I am not a millionaire either, and I expect compensation ASAP, slackers.
