For those who don’t know, PNAS stands for the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences and it has gained the unfortunate reputation for publishing scientific research articles that regularly get knocked out of the park within hours of their release. The lack of rigor stems from its rather unique “peer-review” process in which National Academy members can submit articles for publication that the authors themselves have had “peer-reviewed”—that is, they passed the article by a couple of friends of theirs for comments. It’s more like “pal review.”
Plus a cryptic announcement.

That announcement thingy has me all squirming.. As far as the peer review, its apparent it was and is remaining a scam.
I have this theory regarding the anal capacity of bolshevik scientists for corporate rogering, do you think NAS will publish it?
First, peer review can be both constructive or destructive. As in all human endeavours, academics can operate within power agendas. An academic who has achieved his own fiefdom, so to speak, will often attempt to marginalize and reject dissenting research data and also, different conclusions. But no review can be just as bad!
Second, with regard to the polar bears, I find it puzzling why we seem to regard our current ecological environment as the ‘null hypothesis’ so to speak, as the way it ‘ought to be’. We regard any changes as problematic.
What so many ignore is that nature is active not static; the influences on nature are multiple and include the natural climate. It’s a fact that species can and do go extinct, others emerge and adapt or split off and diversify, more complex forms develop, multiple other forms interact. It’s a complex adaptive network – and no energy is lost or reduced.
Certainly, if we interfere too much, problems arise – as when we cut down a forest and the soil erodes in the annual rains; or when we reduce a bird population and damaging insects multiply. But, Nature is more complex and does adapt. And we, as part of Nature, also adapt.
“That announcement thingy has me all squirming..”
I would say the announcement has me very much concerned. WUWT has be a stalwart anti-climate nonsense site since ’06 or ’07 and has been instrumental in turning the tide against the loons that continue to spout the consensus science BS.
I remember a site called Little Green Footballs that once had announcement. I hope it isn’t along those same lines.
I have a feeling that the announcement will make many of us smile. WUWT has made the world a better place, and I don’t see Anthony changing that.
I am Hoping the denouncement is related to the NYT times going belly up financially.
They’re estimating the number of prehistoric polar bears and they couldn’t even find a quarter million caribou in the present.
Yeah, they have a lot of credibility. Academics should stick to their incestuous feeding on each others fantasies and leave the real world to the rest of us who actually live in it.
Statement: Significant climate-related news will be breaking on Guardian website in next 24-36 hours!

Police close investigation into hacked climate science emails
http://www.guardian.co.uk/environment/2012/jul/18/police-hacked-climate-science-emails
I love it that the police call the release of the East Anglia documents a “crime”. The crime was in the lying and coverup of the scam of AGW that cost the Western countries billions and still do in their insane carbon taxes to meet the political agenda of stealing more of their nations wealth through punitive taxes!
Of course Phil Jones, Mann and their cronies all “peer reviewed” their involvement and came to the astounding conclusion that they were totally innocent of what they plainly wrote in the leaked emails. /sarc off
Here is a possible clue;

SOMETHING is going down Sunday. As it will be announced Sunday, it is not an “offical” announcement, as officals do not work weekends..
It is probably a pre-emptive announcement of something by WUWT, complete with figures, tables and charts. Possibly, it is a pre-emptive attack on the upcoming this week release of the BEST report.
Certainly something is afoot that AW considers important enough to react immediately to changed circumstances (changing his vacation). He is not a drama queen, so it is somthing signficasnt, not FOIA though.
I go for the BEST pre-emptive strike, myself.
My hope is that the announcement will state that the IPPC and members, the UN,NASA,NOAA,East Anglia,Gore,Suzuki,Soros,Strong,UVa,Penn State,Mann,Jones, etc are all being charged with crimes against humanity

Announced! Go see!
Here it is :
PRESS RELEASE – U.S. Temperature trends show a spurious doubling due to NOAA station siting problems and post measurement adjustments.
Chico, CA July 29th, 2012 – 12 PM PDT – FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
A reanalysis of U.S. surface station temperatures has been performed using the recently WMO-approved Siting Classification System devised by METEO-France’s Michel Leroy. The new siting classification more accurately characterizes the quality of the location in terms of monitoring long-term spatially representative surface temperature trends. The new analysis demonstrates that reported 1979-2008 U.S. temperature trends are spuriously doubled, with 92% of that over-estimation resulting from erroneous NOAA adjustments of well-sited stations upward. The paper is the first to use the updated siting system which addresses USHCN siting issues and data adjustments.
The new improved assessment, for the years 1979 to 2008, yields a trend of +0.155C per decade from the high quality sites, a +0.248 C per decade trend for poorly sited locations, and a trend of +0.309 C per decade after NOAA adjusts the data. This issue of station siting quality is expected to be an issue with respect to the monitoring of land surface temperature throughout the Global Historical Climate Network and in the BEST network.
The above is the lead in summary.
