IPCC Admits Its Past Reports Were Junk
On June 27, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) issued a statement saying it had “complete[d] the process of implementation of a set of recommendations issued in August 2010 by the InterAcademy Council (IAC), the group created by the world’s science academies to provide advice to international bodies.”
Hidden behind this seemingly routine update on bureaucratic processes is an astonishing and entirely unreported story. […]
The IAC reported that IPCC lead authors fail to give “due consideration … to properly documented alternative views” (p. 20), fail to “provide detailed written responses to the most significant review issues identified by the Review Editors” (p. 21), and are not “consider[ing] review comments carefully and document[ing] their responses” (p. 22). In plain English: the IPCC reports are not peer-reviewed.
The IAC found that “the IPCC has no formal process or criteria for selecting authors” and “the selection criteria seemed arbitrary to many respondents” (p. 18). Government officials appoint scientists from their countries and “do not always nominate the best scientists from among those who volunteer, either because they do not know who these scientists are or because political considerations are given more weight than scientific qualifications” (p. 18). In other words: authors are selected from a “club” of scientists and nonscientists who agree with the alarmist perspective favored by politicians.

This report being covered on CBC in 3, 2, 1……
Waiting, …. waiting….
Because what they are doing doesn’t remotely approach scientific research; rather it is the ‘hustling of the public’ for ever more research dollars to support the predetermined conclusion.
The only ‘greening of the economy’ occurring is the transfer of wealth from the taxpayer into so called AGW pockets.
Everything else is merely smoke and mirrors.
In legal circles they used to this named: FRAUD.

Typo, my bad…
In legal circles they used to name this FRAUD.
Yup. A gentleman of my acquaintance, an honest man though a member of the IPCC, said somewhat the same thing to me about a year ago.
It is probably correct to say that AGW has no scientific support at present.
What do you expect from bureaucrats? Lies and perjury all the way!
The IPCC would be disbanded if man-made CO2 emissions were found to be inconsequential to the climate. In order to sustain themselves, they need a climate crisis. It is therefore not surprizing that they are organized so as to make such a conclusion inevitable.
Hans, well said.
Maybe, like the fruitfly doctor suggested for AGW deniers, they should be jailed, starting with him. Good for goose, good for the gander.
That pretty much describes the whole UN. While there is a fair amount of cronyism in appointments from Western nations, they at least have some qualifications. Corrupt governments appoint their brother Mohammed and their other brother Mohammed to various UN positions where they receive tax free pay and plenty of power and influence.
The IPCC actions aren’t simply to financially maintain a closed set of invalid ‘scientific researchers’.
It’s part of the UN political fraud which uses this false data and these false ‘experts’ to coerce and extort ‘sin money’ to transfer from the industrial nations to the so-called ‘developing nations’.
Rather similar to the church in its political era, when it took in millions in ‘sin money’ as indulgences, and heresy confiscations of property.
Climate change/global warming is nothing but fraud. The media has aided and abetted this fraud from day one and will continue to do so because they can never admit they are wrong so this piece of news will never see the light of day in any lamestream media sources. Corrupt, stupid, inept, arrogant are just a few of the adjectives that come to mind when I think of the CBC, CTV, Globe n Mail, Toronto Star, etc.
“Rather similar to the church in its political era, when it took in millions in ‘sin money’ as indulgences, and heresy confiscations of property.”
~ET
I think it’s more similar to atheism in its earlier political era, when it killed 10s of millions for indulging in individual property possession, and heresy confiscations of said property.
The similarity, in fact, continues since these people are still atheists and are still trying to prevent individuals from enjoying their own property and even their lives.
Additionally, their final aim is to kill billions this time through starvation/privation caused by forced rationing of energy resources.
The goal today isn’t collecting money, it is radical population reduction.
(would anyone like a ‘free’ flu shot?)
Gee SDA trolls, would a “told you so” go real good right about now?
Won’t make any difference to the True Believers of course, mere facts mean nothing to them.
Oz – the communist revolutions were economic and political not religious.
The agenda in Russia was to move a population out of a two-class tribal (medieval) agricultural sector where a small set of landowners controlled all the wealth and the peasants starved. The ‘answer’ to this was the ignorant idea that no-one, peasant or noble, should own anything! This political movement of communism attacked the church in Russia because it was on the side of the peasants.
In China, monotheism didn’t exist and there was no political church. Therefore your charge of atheism is empty. What existed was primarily local animisms (which remain) and, politically, Confucionism. The agenda was to move a peasant agriculturalism into a modern industrial economy. The tactic, again, was forced loss of property with the state, or commune or people, collectively ‘owning’ everything.
As in Russia, this switch from a two-class to a theoretically no-class political system and from a peasant agriculture to a commune-run mass agriculture didn’t work.
The focus wasn’t on the power of a political body engaged in assuming private ownership of wealth confiscated, of the land taken and kept privately as was the case in 13th-16th c Europe and the church.
The similarities between the two eras were the top-down authoritarianism, the loss of individual power and wealth-making capacities, the loss of the power to disagree, the loss of freedom of thought etc.
In both cases, the political era of the church with its inquisition and heresy trials, and the communist era of Russia and China, both phases failed because they denied the reality of the individual capacity to reason and to be, as an individual, in charge of his interactions with the world.
So Lance was close enough when he said, “allegations on page 1, retractions on page 40”
Sent today to Brad Wall, just to keep pushing for sanity.
“Premier Wall July 17, 2012
In your remarks to the media yesterday [July 16th] you once again genuflected in the direction of the “CO2 is evil” shibboleth with regard to the “dirty Canadian oil” defamation. While I congratulate you for defending Canadian industry and energy production, why do you continue to give credence to the nonsense that masquerades as environmental “science” these days? Why not stand up for rationality instead?
You’ve got to be well enough informed to know that the Catastrophic Anthropogenic Global Warming edifice has completely disintegrated. Despite the best efforts of the Green mafia and the media, your voters are now fully aware that throwing billions of dollars at renewable energy products is nothing but political correctness run amok, and financially irresponsible besides. If your government continues to back costly and ineffective energy sources like wind and solar, and strategies such as COs sequestration in the name of ‘saving the Earth’ you will pay at the ballot box; if not people actively switching to the opposition, then at the least, intelligent voters staying home on election day in disgust at the squandering of our tax dollars.
For your continued edification, here is a link to sda and an article showing that the IPCC reports have been roundly condemned as unscientific and invalid. Which of course we already knew.”
Surprise, surprise!: In other words: authors are selected from a “club” of scientists and nonscientists who agree with the alarmist perspective favored by politicians.
You can count on the journalists making sure this admission that AGW was always a scam will never reach the earnest ears of the rank and file in the radical green network: Sierra Club, Friends of the Earth, National Resources Defense Council.
The proportion of Sierra Club members who sincerely believed in AGW should be very angry with the radical lords of the green movement who used them to further this lie.
The green movement is just the latest incarnation of cultural marxism, and is run by people who would rather see millions die of malaria in Africa, rather than lose the power of the myth that DDT was a poison produced by capitalism blind to anything but profit.
ET_The communists were all things, religious included. Their religion was materialism, all receiving ‘according to their needs’.
Today these atheists worship the earth, in it’s material naturalism.
“In both cases, the political era of the church with its inquisition and heresy trials” yada yada yada
First, these inquisitions, indulgences, and heresy trials are specific to the Catholic Church# big ‘C’ Catholic big ‘C’ church# not the biblical church, or indeed other organised Christian sects.
Second, political atheism did kill those 10s of millions of people irrespective of whether or not those nations had a Christian population.
All those people were murdered because as rank materialists, atheists raised universal materialism above the value of the quality/existence of individual human life just as they are doing today with the AGW initiative.
I think it’s more similar to atheism in its earlier political era, when it killed 10s of millions for indulging in individual property possession, and heresy confiscations of said property.
Absolutely. Show trials, torture, the whole bit. Those are the results of atheism if not kept toned down by those who recognize the limitations of the reasoning power of man.
Now we have another bunch of atheists with the next Big Idea of how to equalize the world’s wealth.
Didn’t work in the communist countries, so now they’ll try it world scale. These people are insane.
Waiting for: “BIG OIL” is bankrolling the IAC…
First, these inquisitions, indulgences, and heresy trials are specific to the Catholic Church# big ‘C’ Catholic big ‘C’ church# not the biblical church, or indeed other organised Christian sects.
Yes, they were. During that time the people weren’t even allowed to have Bibles. They had to depend on the powers of reason of the black robe class.
Interesting, academics use those same robes…
I am not understanding the trend of this string into political; religious etc. rhetoric.
Please stay on track this is and remains FRAUD for which no person or group will receive censure, let alone punishment. How can this be changed should be the dialogue.
“I am not understanding the trend of this string into political; religious etc. rhetoric.”

This has occured because atheist ET, in her general ignorance of religion and puffed up with her own narcisscism, has taken the occasion to smear all of Christianity with the excesses of the Catholics, again.
Yes, we know it’s fraud. Why don’t you go back to the SDA archives Nov 21+. 2009 and see what was cooking then?
oz – yes, it was the Catholic church, which was the major political and economic power in Europe for centuries.
You may denigrate the effects of the inquisition, crusades and heresy trials, but the loss of property, lives and rights was not trivial.
All that atheism means is a rejection of a belief in a deity. Period. It does not mean setting up yet another supreme power, materialism! That’s your doing that and is a misuse of the term.
Mike Sr, the topic of this thread, to my understanding, is that the effects of fraud empower a particular set of authorities, in this case, the UN, allied with a heavily funded and essentially corrupt ‘scientific’ community, and other politicians whom they can control, to extort money from the industrial world to the so-called developing world.
The comparison of the effects of having a belief system, empty in itself, yet supported by a realm of so-called ‘experts’ used to extort wealth – is where the pre-reformation Church discussion emerges. It’s a valid comparison. Authorities set up inviolate dogma to extort wealth.
Hummmmmm…..fraud it is.When does the revolution start to imprison the scam artists,or at least get us out of the climate religion, and the UN.
I mean for God’s sake, the IPCC had a TRAIN ENGINEER as their chief.Right.They know so much about climate,CO2,etc.
Fiddle & Oz
Sorry but you forgot the excesses of the Puritan Commonwealth under the “Lord Protector” Ollie Cromwell…and the tender mercies of the 30 Years war…….real sweethearts all.
Nah it’s always about absolute power and always was….with the USSR and Mao’s China….it was replacing one aristocracy with another…both of which were/are ruthless. The replacemant of the Han dynasty with the Chin dynasty (Mongols).
How can this be changed should be the dialogue.
The way to change it is to stop allowing the utopians from instituting their Big Ideas. Stop allowing man’s reason being elevated to godlike status.
Stop allowing the blackrobed ‘experts’ the final say…
All that atheism means is a rejection of a belief in a deity. Period. It does not mean setting up yet another supreme power, materialism!
Of course atheism means setting up a supreme power. What other power is there if God isn’t recognized?
And that’s exactly what these AGW are doing, setting themselves up as the supreme authority.
“oz-You may denigrate the effects of the inquisition, crusades and heresy trials, but the loss of property, lives and rights was not trivial.

In your fevered little imagination, et. Speak for yourself.
I neither trivialize nor denigrate the effects of what the Papists did to my own people.
sasquatch at July 17, 2012 12:58 PM
That was fighting for religious freedom from Roman totalitarian aggression.
The papists don’t call it Catholic(Universal) for nothing.
Fake scientists trying to impose fake solutions to fake problems.
What a couple of naive suckers Gore and Suzuki were.
fiddle – rejecting a Supreme Power (god) does not mean setting up yet another Supreme Power! It means rejecting any and all universal or supreme powers! Basic English.
sasquatch – yes, it’s all about Supreme inviolate Power. Dogma.
The IPCC is not and never was genuinely committed to science or reason, since both rest on the notion of fallibility, ie, that ‘we could be wrong’. As such, a hypothesis can never be conclusive and closed but open to empirical tests and critical analysis. This is not the case with the AGW’s dogma. Think how powerful this has become, how it has absorbed great wealth all over the world.
What is disturbing is how powerful dogma is, how we allow it to have power, as in the rise of the political church in Europe, the rise of other utopian dogmas such as communism, such as German fascism and Islamic fascism – and yes, in Obama’s equally dogmatic utopianism of Hope and Change. In all cases, it’s all about the dogma being used to control wealth and power.
Gore and Suzuki were among the hucksters which foisted this scam on the rest of us, personally hoping to enrich themselves.
I do think they have largely succeeded.
If they can’t be jailed, they can at least be sued and stripped of this enrichment.
…rejecting a Supreme Power (god) does not mean setting up yet another Supreme Power! It means rejecting any and all universal or supreme powers!
Therefore you reject the supreme power of reason. Basic English.
The fake acceptance of fallibility does nothing, practically, since there is no alternative. Fallible reason still reigns supreme.
Just makes an atheist look pretty silly to be following that which they know is fallible, and all the while claiming it to be the supreme power.
Just like the AGW people and their ‘precautionary’ principle.
no, fiddle, what I’m saying is that all we humans have is reason. That doesn’t make it all-knowing! You are confusing ‘all we have’ with ‘supreme’; that is, you are ignoring the exact attributes of ‘all we have’ which is reason. It means that our capacity for reason is all we have to make sense of the world and we must acknowledge that it is fallible.
Therefore, we must never move into a belief that resists a critical analysis. The AGW is one such belief system; it rejects dissent and critical analysis.
Accepting the fallibility of our reason, which is all we have to make sense of the world, isn’t fake! It’s an action of humility that acknowledges that our knowledge of the world has been wrong (flat earth, witches) and can be wrong in the future.
That’s right. There’s no alternative to acknowledging that reason is our only method for understanding the world and it’s fallible. So, we have to be open to examining our conclusions.
The AGW is not open; therefore, it is not an act of reason but of dogma and its function is wealth extortion.
There’s an excellent article in Consumer Energy Report, July 16, by Robert Rapier, on ‘Environmentalism is a Profitable Business’. Excellent, with charts and hard data about how the environmentalists are filled with and spreading misinformation.
Calling this a fraud is the understatement of the century. The monetary cost of this hoax is in the trillions and even today our politicians are hesitant to admit this carbon tax, this tax on nothing, is a scam. Millions of brainwashed adults and children still believe CO2 is a pollutant rather than a .038% trace gas that has no bearing on temperature. Fruit fly experts and fat politicians have become rich on selling fear and fairy dust. Agenda 21 and the UN want to take us back to the stone age with the support of our own hard earned money and full support of the gullible public on the left. Hoax ? Treason and a death wish would be more suitable! Destruction of civilisation is far more serious than a hoax.
You are confusing ‘all we have’ with ‘supreme’…
Supreme means superior to all others. ‘All we have’ is superior to all others because there isn’t any other, according to you. Although, you’re not even sure of that considering you admit your reasoning is fallible.
That doesn’t make it all-knowing!
Well, it’s all you know. Same thing.
Accepting the fallibility of our reason, which is all we have to make sense of the world, isn’t fake!
Precautionary principle, anyone? Of course it’s fake if you base your actions on what you admit you don’t know. Which you do, when you admit your reasoning is fallible.
You’re operating on the precautionary principle, same as the AGW people.
And then you wonder how we got in this mess…
While talking about junk science……….

We’ll now admit that we lied in the past……but look down in the small print in sub…sub…sub paragraph 999 where it says, “but we don’t care because we’ve now got all of our people in charge of the required departments in all of the western democracies and we’re beyond the stopping point in bringing about our vision of one world order.”
Even though we’ve always known that the AGW scam was one big lie it is going to take a lot more effort to stop the train wreck that the IPCC/UN and their ilk have put us in front of then just their admission of…”oops I guess we misjudged.”
As an example, just look at the lies and the course that Obama has put America on and still around half of Americans say that they’ll vote for him.
As an example, just look at the lies and the course that Obama has put America on and still around half of Americans say that they’ll vote for him.
Yeah, there’s a lot of fallibility going on. But it’s all okay because we admit we’re fallible. We admit we don’t know what we’re doing, but we did it anyway.
That’s what leftists are all about, re-inventing the wheel every day.
Meanwhile, the enemy sends the next batch of confusion. Yeah, that reasoning power is really winning the day…
On the AGW scam subject – I read a funny on Tim Blair’s blog today. A new term for someone or something ‘kicking the bucket’, or ‘gave up the ghost’ etc. In honor of our bird and bat friends we should now use ‘Hit the Rotors’.
“Millions of brainwashed adults and children still believe CO2 is a pollutant”
What’s even more pathetic is that millions probably do not know the difference between CO2 and CO. When they hear carbon dioxide, they envision being in a locked garage with the car running.
When will our schools begin teaching that carbon dioxide is a harmless trace gas that would still exist even without man’s contribution?
You mean the fruit fly guy was wrong and Santa will not drown near his North Pole home anytime soon?
Thank gawd.
Plenary sessions to approve a Summary for Policy Makers last for several days and commonly end with an all-night meeting. Thus, the individuals with the most endurance or the countries that have large delegations can end up having the most influence on the report (p. 25).
Plain english? The party lasted several days and nobody remembers the last drunk standing.
Never underestimate the power of human stupidity.

I largely agree with ET’s position but would point out that describing pre-revolutionary Russia as possessing “a two-class tribal (medieval) agricultural sector” is playing somewhat fast and loose with categories. A mediaeval society is a profoundly different thing from a tribal society. Tribal societies, depending on wealth, are not necessarily even very hierarchical, but mediaeval societies are. As for a second nit to pick, mediaeval society in Russia was largely ended by Ivan the Terrible, who killed off many of the old boyar families, and created a more centralised society with the Tsar the unambiguous head.
John – thanks for your post.
But I do consider the medieval infrastructure similar to a tribal one.
Both are hereditarily two-leveled, ie, with one group (clan or families of nobles) having political and economic authority – and the rest of the population (divided into lesser clans, lesser noble families and peasants), having no authority.
This hereditary authority can be quite hierarchical in a large tribe; one clan rules, the rest have no authority. And even within the clan, you’ll get the elders in control, and in a large tribe one family within the clan in control.
There is no middle class, understood as an open membership decided not by heredity but by economic activity and ability to create and accumulate wealth.
I agree with Ivan’s centralizing power, but that didn’t end the two-leveled infrastructure and the lack of a middle class, with the nobles being replaced by a new set of ‘nobles’ who owed all their power to Ivan. After this era, the nation was a mess, as I’m sure you know. Still, no middle class.
The similarity of a medieval structure with a tribal is the two-leveled, hereditary closed system with the lack of a middle class. As such a structure, this society has little adaptive capacities. Adaptive capacities rest in a flexible middle class.
The only reasonable solution for the UN IPCC is to return all the Funding & punish the guilty…Nothing was honest…Nothing was science…
Who funds & runs the UN???? Not the USA; darn another hidden agenda by the American elites.

catch 22, well done.
sasquatch @ 12:58, exactly, you nail it with it is all about absolute power and control of people. This is what the AGW crowd hope to achieve.
peterj @ 2:50, you are so right, and many of our political leaders do not see this.
Russia had a growing middle class after the 1861 serf emancipation. Many noble families not adjusting to the new reality became impoverished and had to sell their estates. Entrepreneurs in various occupations, including such major ones as agriculture and industry, were a growing class until destroyed by Lenin.
