..and that would tell people on FB what other FB users thought of having Quebec remain a province of Canada.

I’ve been involved with several Saskatchewan Francophone organizations over the years, both formally and informally. Saskatchewan Francophones are the finest people in the world. In the late and early 80’s however, these groups began to bring in members of the French community of Quebec, as educators and directors of various organizations. Thats where the demise began.
The Quebecois belongs to the society of entitlement. Seperate schools, seperate school buses, all French–no English. The fanatical groups destroyed the French culture in Saskatchewan. I could go on, but my blood pressure is rising. All I can say, if governments would have said “non” to the funding, none of this would have happened. Nor would that be happening in Quebec.

An unemployed welder from Ontario can easily move to Alberta or Saskatchewan for work. A graduate from St Mary’s U in Halifax can scope out work in Vancouver or NYC if there is nothing in Nova Scotia. The Quebec electrician or Laval graduate who has very limited Englash language skills is limited to Quebec, a bit of Eastern Ontario, Western New Brunswick and South Coast Nova Scotia (BTW the non-Quebec locations are rural and not exactly hot spots for jobs).
The student will fight like hell to limit tuition costs because she is so limited in the post graduation job market. The Quebec construction worker will support his radical union and restriction on out of province workers because the Quebec jobs are the only jobs at which he has a real shot; he must limit competition.
The Quebec language policy has isolated les francophone Quebecois within North America to their province of 10 million. Les Quebecois may not realize this but they are nonetheless reacting to this reality.
Quebec is Greeking us.
Quebec is abusing the intent of the transfer system. Who knew that people might abuse a handout? If they have $7/day daycare and token tuition and the ROC does not, how can you defend that as a comparable level of service? Subsection 36(2) of the Constitution Act, 1982 states that “Parliament and the government of Canada are committed to the principle of making Equalization payments to ensure that provincial governments have sufficient revenues to provide reasonably comparable levels of public services at reasonably comparable levels of taxation.” Granted they have the highest income tax rates in Canada,20% if you make over $39k/year and 24% over $78,120, but as “Economist Michael Smart has argued (equalization payments) gives have-not provinces an incentive to raise taxes, because any harm higher taxes do to the economy is off-set by higher equalization payments”. The ROC is getting ripped off. We are Germany, they are Greece.
A recurrent theme is Quebec bashing. So be it. It isn’t going to change.
So … what’s keeping the ROC from booting Quebec out? Why doesn’t the ROC initiate its own referendum? With a majority government in place, that shouldn’t be a problem.
What’s holding the ROC back? Canada’s image of tolerance?
No Curious, Western Canadians, white Ontario, and BC types are all hot air.

So the challenge I put out is if the kind folks in here would start a referendum request to once and for all to separate Quebec.
Otherwise, it does make for entertaining reading.
In the old days the Catholic Church wielded enormous influence in Quebec without having any official role in government. Today the unions are in the same position. The students are cannon fodder. What we’re seeing has little to do with $325 a year. It’s the unions, along with the PQ & the left in general, seizing an opportunity to stir up opposition to the Charest Liberals. If the same tuition increases had been proposed by a PQ government, they would have gone through with barely a whimper.
The step by step recipe of the collective stupidity of these students.
1) Go to a University to become educated, to get a good job.
2) Complain that your fees, when raised, would still be the lowest in Canada.
3) Riot.
4) Get arrested.
5) Go to trial.
6) Get convicted.
7) As a result, you now have a criminal record, making your chances of getting the good job you wanted next to nil.
8) Go on welfare, and be a slacker for the rest of your life.
Then again, maybe that’s what they want all along, an excuse to suck money from the ROC.
BTW, Charest will not show any degree of leadership to stop these protests, he’ll just bring his tin cup to Ottawa asking for more $, he’s playing the game too.
My sister-in-law works for the Feds in Ottawa. Heer riding was the first to elect a Reform MP. Federal workers in Ottawa were faced with Quebecers coming into departments as heads as they were bilingual. Once in all future hires were Quebecers. Needless to say the Anglos were being forced out and they didn’t like it.
My sister is an assistant department head and took the French language course and passed it at the top of her class. With the recent budget cutbacks her husband’s employer in the Canadian Space Agency has informed him he has to move back to Montreal. Two things: 1) Sister-in-law doesn’t think she can get a federal government job in Montreal because she is not French 2) The last time they lived in Montreal they had to sell their house at a loss simply to get out.
Says something about the state of the country.
Why can’t the principles of $7-a-day daycare be extended to post-secondary education? It’s not as if Quebec actually has to pay for any of it. Equalization payments from les maudites anglaises will cover the tab.

I’ve always looked at Quebec as another African nation. Why we give Africa all the aid and welfare when we have the same thing here, and yet everyone screams that is not enough.
Stop splitting the aid between Quebec and Africa and there will be more than enough to keep the Quebecers from burning their cities down.
Who wants the Quebecers to stop burning their cities down?
The sooner and the more severely they suffer the consequences of their ignorant intransigence and outright selfishness the better.
In the meantime … they deserve ALL the scorn and contempt they get … they’ve EARNED it.

Similar to Liberal welfare cities like Detroit once they crap in their own nest enough they come over to ours. That is why states like Michigan & California are now forced to pump so much money into keeping them virtually locked up on the ghetto plantations.
Unless we separate and build a well armed border fence we have no choice but to minimize our financial losses to keep Quebecers out of our own provinces, with payoff’s and rebuilding their broken nests.

From a statistical analysis standpoint there are many times more than enough FB users in Canada to provide a valid sample. So the answer to that is yes. No media outlet of any kind would dare touch the question of whether the ROC wants to keep Quebec in the country – we have to start somewhere.
Not only bring out the dogs, but bring out a water cannon or 2. Why oh why do we allow punks and anarchists to carryon as they please? It was embarrassing enough last year watching the police in Vancouver standing by while their cars were burnt, but this summer is shaping up to be the summer of the punks discontent. These “protests” have to be gotten under control early or chaos is going to ensue. And Charest is “negotiating’ with the punks? Over what? A minor increase in tuition which will in no way come close to getting near what every other province is charging for tuition. Cheesh…

No kidding, I gave a prairie farmer a ride the other day because his brand new Dodge diesel 4×4 was getting winter tires switched out to some AT’s. It was the least I could do for him because by default he feeds me and my family.
I’m thinking of donating a substantial amount of money to the local 4H this year just because I want more farmers like this guy to have a better life like I do as a “high rolling” international senior oilfield professional, who has never worked a day on a farm. I can afford it, and it’s my call.
I piss more money than these farmers could ever earn, subsidies or not, why would I not give back?

All of us humans will come to believe that a long standing handout or subsidy becomes a human right. That’s what we do. The only way to prevent withdrawal symptoms from handouts is to limit the number that are distributed and the dosage.
