  1. Many years ago I heard this same uterance here in Saskatchwan from a union leader. There was a French socialist that recanted his socialist beliefs that said,” the only defense against totalitarianism is volunterism”.

  2. “parent volunteers at the local public schools.
    [SNIP]
to fundraise for and hire part-time teacher’s helpers, who also mostly come from the ranks of the parents themselves.”

Paid “volunteers” providing extra non-Union teaching at public schools?
Why would anyone be surprised that the teacher’s union wants to protect it’s turf?
Since when do volunteers get paid anyhow?

  3. You know. I used to say I hope I live to see Californicated taken back by the Mexicans. This keeps up,I won’t have to hope! Time to restock the beer and popcorn.

  4. Oz:
Technically, you “hire” a volunteer when you accept their offer to do a job, even when you don’t pay for their services.
    At least IMHO.

  5. I worked in the charity industry for years, if a group is totally run by volunteers it one thing but if even only the director gets a paycheck I guaranty someone is making a buck off of the backs of the volunteers. or in this case taking it away from unions scum. Money, its always the reason why.

  6. Rocky View Redneck, the people the article discusses were literally, not technically, hiring part time teachers.
    Read it.
I’m literally volunteering for the Rob Anderson re-election campaign.
    I won’t be getting paid.

  7. The war on volunteers is here in Canada. I volunteer (yep, no pay) at the local hospital. I received a letter asking if I would cross picket lines in the event of a strike by health workers – and advised that my name would be passed to the union(s) involved. That is straight intimidation as the union has no right to ask who I am or where I live. Both my cars got vandalized last time I criticized a union in a letter to the editor and I don’t want them knowing anything about me.

I also volunteer allot of my time when overseas in third world countries explaining the HUGE pitfalls of immigration to Canada.
As a trusted source of information by many potential & quizzical immigrants, I always take the time out of my day to insure them that they are either far better placed where they are, or Europe if they really insist on leaving their homelands.
I’m actually quite proud of my success in this endeavour and have freely done this service for nearly 2 decades now.

  9. IIRC, during the last public sector strike in Ontario, the union (OPSEU?) tried to intimidate volunteers in Windsor who were maintaing the parks for their children.

The “pitfalls” are friggen endless for the people I talk to in the Islamic world red, you should visit them and stay for a few years to know what I’m talking about.

    – Freezing weather most of the year, many people found frozen on the streets or in their cars annually.
    – Occasional bear, cougar and wolf attacks.
Children frequently fall through ice and drown each year.
    – Many deaths on icy winter roads.
    – Many hostile aboriginal Indians that don’t like other people.
    – Mosquito’s and black flies that bite incessantly (West Nile virus)
    – Taxi & janitorial services full of brown people with medical degrees who can’t find professional work.
    – Neo Nazi’s and K.K.K running around with lots of rope, guns, and gasoline (according to Liberal reports).
    – Jewish and Asian communities are the favored immigrants by many.
    – Gay Pride parades in many cities with half naked men dancing in front of children.
Nearly all restaurants serve pork, even if they claim they don’t.
    – Liquor stores on every corner, Pornography at every other turn.
    – Parliamentary interest in banning burka’s.
Males must submit to females, especially in the workplace.
    – Recent condemnation and police actions against polygamy.
    – Huge suspicion of inner city Muslim ghetto’s due to global Muslim terrorist activity.
    – A secular society, wanting to ban all religion and family values with emphasis on Islam.
As I said, the list is endless, this is a 2 minute off the top of my head set of examples, I could go on for hours if need be.

  12. Knight 99 – don’t forget that Joooos, who of course run absolutely everything, frequently kidnap Muslim children and… well, you know the routine. Anglicans do it too, and most Baptists. Calls from the minaret are banned, but Celine Dion is broadcast full volume every morning at dawn. It’s dark 24/7 for half the year in every part of the country, but the imams have ruled that the Ramadan fasting regulations cannot be adjusted to accomodate this fact. There are dogs absolutely everywhere, including inside all vehicles and public buildings. You will be forced to watch Little Mosque on the Prairie, and, almost certainly, eventually eaten by polar bears.

Ah, I see you should be an ambassador to Canada as well. 🙂
I’ll keep your tips in mind, as you should mine when travelling. It’s nice to get out and meet people abroad and learn about each other’s cultures instead of relying on the MSM and tourism propaganda from both sides.
Many people are as equally shocked at my revelations, but I explain that it’s like that beautiful and expensive vacation packages they sell you that always turn into the “Trip from Hell”.

  14. Knight and Mamba, you missed the Numero Uno downside to immigrating to Canada:
Scary white people live there. They are all crazy. And mean.

  15. A lot of that stuff you said belongs in cities
Which is where immigrants concentrate in order to collect their government cheese while getting culturally tailored services in the language of their fatherland and producing the new generation of vismin entitled identity voting blocs, …what??? do you think they are clearing the land and homesteading in sod huts like my pioneer ancestors did?!
These people weren’t recruited from the rural zones of the Olde Countrey, why would you think they would want to settle in the Canadian West when Canadian Easterners have shunned the West since Confederation?
(and Yes we do need block heaters on our cars out West in Winter, if the “System” broke down the “hot house” folks from warm climes would positively die from privation, energy wealth nothwithstanding if you’re too lazy to shovel yer Frickin’ driveway)

That’s an idea, but I’ll keep sending them to France for now.
I’m going to repatriate my working self back into Alberta this year.
