“Now, let me tell you a bit about your shitty new country…”
February 13 was the official launch of “People’s Citizenship Guide: a response to conservative canada.” Written by a group of progressive scholars with the intention of providing a “more honest alternative” to the official citizenship Guide, the People’s Citizenship Guide encourage new immigrants to join the ranks of the leftist grievance-mongers:
“The Canadian economy forms part of an unequal global economic system, a system which, shape by the legacies of colonialism, continues to privilege industrialized nations over those of the global south.”
Sun TV host Brian Lilley and guest John Robson spotlighted several other notable passages from The People’s Citizenship Guide on yesterday’s edition of The Byline:
“Canada has a long history of repression, exclusion, and exploitation.”
The unjust “exclusion” continues to this day:
“You must apply to become a Canadian “citizen” to vote in any election in Canada. This means waiting several years after arriving in Canada to become eligible, paying a significant application fee per person, passing a written exam in French or English, and swearing allegiance – perhaps in front of a military official – to the British Queen, who leads a Christian church. For many people, this process is a barrier to exercising their democratic rights.”
(emph. mine)

I recommend that these profs be dropped in with a group of returning vets from Afghanistan for a re-education session.
My wife and I just finished watching the fourth DVD of A&E’s Reilly: Ace of Spies series. It took four evenings, two hours at a time to get through it. Before I came up to check what is new on SDA I thought about how Stalin’s henchmen had infiltrated our educational system and we see the results almost every day and includes this “People’s Citizenship Guide”.
Education funding needs a 50% cut.
Well, we can always drop these illustrious ‘contributors’ a note to let them know what we think of their wonderful little hackjob:

Alain writes: “It is amazing to see such profound ignorance from university professors.”
Having been a university professor (and surrounded by other university professors) for over four decades, it is anything but amazing. It is exactly what I would expect. More disappointing is the hyping of this nonsense by the public relations people at the University of Manitoba. *That* is the reason that alumni/ae should cease sending cheques to the institution.
When my alma mater hired “progressive” professor Henry Giroux and Stephen Lewis, this could only have meant that they had far too much money already and didn’t need another penny from me.
If you think this is bad, University of Winnipeg makes UofM look like Hillsdale College.
Hey now. They want to sell books at only 14.95 ea. New immigrants don’t read english so who is the target audience ? Even says in the header that “Our books lean left”. Great sales strategy. If they had’nt pis5ed me off I would’nt have dreamed of buying the book. Now I just gotta read it.
Is this not the same cabal that dumped on some people a year or two ago?
Looking for it, just can’t remember who was involved, remember that it was U of M wise guys.
What is it with the place? Do they have lack of quality drinking water or something?

I predict it will be less painfull if you just hand drill a hole in your head and scoop 2/3rds of your brain matter out.
peterj, I hope you’ll take some advice from Abbie Hoffman. Don’t buy the book, steal it.
I talked to an Indian today. That is going to University after a 27 year stint in the army.
He said we ought to quite fighting because now we have the same enemy that wants to colonize us all. You can guess who he means. It was a heartening chance meeting. Glad to see the Natives are starting to see where multiculturalism is heading.
He was just as happy when I told him that these folks are not immigrants, but plain invaders who want us dead.
Its time to become like the Saxons & Norman. Bury the hatchet than fight this tooth & nail to keep what we have.
I’ve found the perfect country for those who share the concerns of this group, it’s called Mexico. Or if you want an English-speaking country that is dedicated to solidarity with the “people of the South” try California. Your rights will be expanding faster than you can dream them up.
Other choices you may wish to consider — Syria, Somalia (no government at all) and China, no chance of whitey lording it over you there.
Its so awful here in the soul crushing worker exploiting industrial machine that you might think the authors would run screaming from the country, looking for a paradise to emigrate to…. say Venezuala, or if you are a back to nature freak, perhaps Haitit. And yet, they stick around in this wretched dump? Why might that be? Hypocrites.
I just sent the following to these tits:
“I have just finished a quick review of your silly, childish, People’s Citizenship Guide.
You forgot to mention one important thing: Canada (the country you so detest) is one of the very nations in the world where, not only are you allowed to heap criticism on the state, but in some cases (where ingratitude over-rides ethics) you can expect to get your salary susidized by the very same government that you ridicule.
You two would probably starve, if it wasn’t for our governments.
Yours truly, etc…”
SDAers who wish to follow up with some thoughts of your own…

I won’t argue with you on this one. These profs are a pack of losers. Harassing them by email is pretty tacky, though.

Oh, no! Not ‘tacky’. Woe is me.
Here I was thinking that the bracing effects of public censure and accountability were just what was needed! And all those other letters and emails I’ve sent to MPs, MPPs and others in the past about the wise and ethical use of my tax-dollars? Tacky too?
I’ll never live this down! Here I was, thinking all along that I was living and breathing true participatory democracy.
Oh well…back to candlelight vigils, I guess.
Ever notice how like minded groups always insert the term ‘People’ into their organizations and publications. ‘People’s’ Republic of China, Korea. ‘Peoples’ Guide, ‘People’s’ History, etc etc.
Let me rewrite that story for you.
“The Canadian Leftist forms part of an unequal global political system, a system which, shape by the legacies of violence, continues to privilege certain protected groups over those of the average citizen.”
“Leftists have a long history of repression, exclusion, and exploitation.”
“You just comply to become a Canadian “Leftist” to disrupt any tradition in Canada. … For many people, this process is a barrier to exercising their democratic rights.”
Geez, can we trade these arseholes for people who might actually appreciate living here?
These profs do realize that the border works in both directions right? Nothing keeping them here in this country that they so obviously despise.
Personally I think the ivory tower academics should stay in their progressive tower, I have no desire to live in their loopy upside down world of insanity and over emotive feelings. There’s a reason they call modern progressive liberalism a mental disorder.
It’s called “feedback”, Vic. Lefty academics are the most open-minded people in the world – just ask them – and they treasure dissenting points of view, so they’ll be thrilled. Now, how closely were your parents related again?
Black Mamba, lol, thank you for the morning laugh.
Greg, the next thing they will be talking about is “enemies of the people”.

Not for nothing did Billy Ayers give up exploding bombs and march into the university classroom.
Exactly.
(As did his Weather Underground comrades Mark Rudd and Bernardine Dohrn.)
I bet they have a “nut” file just for your stuff.
Posted by: Victim Toews at February 24, 2012 8:12 AM .
Rather be in a nut file than no file at all.
Canada has far too many in the “I agree with what you’re doing but not the way you’re doing it” crowd.
I bet they have a “nut” file just for your stuff.
Posted by: Victim Toews at February 24, 2012 8:12 AM .
And, I might add, far better to be in a nut file than a nutless file.
If you don’t like Canada, don’t come here. Stay in crappystan. Is it really that hard?
Thankfully by allowing boat loads of criminals refuge status and a home to prey on Canadians for ever we can erase Canada’s “long history of repression, exclusion, and exploitation.”
