What I meant by that is their are few men that can fill his shoes. Particularly today where education is just ideology. Hes getting old, & I can see no one who can take up his road. Its hard to replace truth tellers from academia, but almost impossible in todays milieu

  2. Thoma Sowell has been a pleasure to read for so many years, like the Paul Harvey of the pen his intellect is so far above the leftie occupy dorks he leaves them crying just trying to understand what he said. This piece is no different, but some credit should go to William Gairdner also, this was pointed out in his 1990 book War Against the Family, lefties changing the meaning of words and phrases with an all to complicit media, can change a great time into a destructive lifestyle with the changing of a small words meaning.

  3. Do read Sowell’s “Ethnic America”, a study of the economic success or failure of various ethnic and racial groups in the USA. It is highlights many things: the group’s historical starting points in the USA, how the group’s work ethic and attitudes to education helped or hindered the group as well as ordinary statistical aids (e.g. most Jews are urbanized, live in the Northeast or Mid West States and the average age of the Jewish population is much older than the American average. Living in a city in the North East or Midwest will raise anyone’s nominal inome without raising their living standard and, save for athletes and entertainers, one’s peak earning years tend to be later in life). Sowell’s “Economics and Politics of Race” is an international examination of the same issue. It is not as detailed due to generally less histoical records for each group but it does suggest some groups propser everywhere and some groups fail everywhere i.e. it may be a the group that is the most important factor in success or failure.

  4. Dr. Sowell’s exposition here reminds us why its utterly pointless to engage a Leftist in reasoned argument. Taking “social justice” at face value is ridiculous. It isn’t about justice, its about unfair advantage. It isn’t about society, its about a small group trying to fleece the rest of us.
Or gun control. Stripped of all the “crime/accident/suicide prevention” smoke and mirrors, Canada’s gun registry turned out to be a money laundering scheme with an added benefit that it beat up rural Conservative voters. Try to have that conversation with a Lefty sometime, just for a giggle.
There is a cure for all this, of course. Its called a TAX CUT. Cut the income of government in this country by three quarters and remove their ability to borrow money The liberals can then lie and cheat all they want, it will avail then naught. Let them steal stones.

  5. Excellent clip. No doubt about it: the LEFT has the LANGUAGE.
    “Social justice” = looting; bribery.
“Democratic socialistm” = tender tyranny; impossible.
To make people equal you have to treat them unequally.
As I have often observed here, conservatives have utterly failed to adopt effective language and to SELL our ideas. We have mistakenly thought, during periods of prosperity, that the pudding will be the proof; that people will understand the SOURCE of this prosperity. Too many don’t. Too may think SCARCITY is some kind of Jew-bankster-big biz conspiracy without which we would live in a paradisal world of plenty. We should spend less time knocking Michael Moore and more time socratically questioning him and praising him as a model capitalist.
Take the word “sustainable”. We should be using this word as often as possible in discussing economics.
Capitalism was coined by Marx. We should not use the term. Rather we should refer to the “market economy” or “free market economy”. A sda commenter once said: “capitalism is what people do when left alone”. Long ago I was hugely amused upon first encountering the mutual fund industry’s use of the word “LOAD” for commission. Could anything be dumber.

  6. Revnant Dream, you scared me for a moment. He is not young, and will be dead too soon and for too long and it will be a great loss.
