  1. The caption to this thread is perfect.
The comments to this article in the Post are interesting to read and on the money, especially from a student who was elected to a student’s council on a platform of free speech and is being balked by the administration.
The universities in the west have lost their way. Stalin’s 5th column aided by the Fabian Society have succeeded marvelously.

  2. The article begins, “A “disconcerting” number of Canadian universities have failed in their mission to protect free speech and in the process are helping to erode open debate in the larger society, a new report contends.”
Really? In a school of higher education?
    I’m shocked…shocked I tell ya….

  3. I was expelled from Vancouver Island University for the crime of disagreeing with the program administrator.
She was not certified in the program and it turns out that that she barely graduated from high school.
    Welcome to “higher education”

  4. Welcome to the real world Dwight.
    T’ain’t right, tain’t wrong…it just is.
That said, these elements are the very same that you vigourously champion here….
When these situations occur we must actively expose these abuses….make a scene/fuss….not just shrug and walk away.
This is just further evidence of Gramski’s “long march through the institutions”.
We must be constantly alert to these unqualified individuals holding positions of trust….much like geographers posing as “climate scientists”.
I recall an associate, going for his CDL(rig licence) attending for his road test. The gal inspector refused to produce HER licence to him and declared that I the licenced driver, could not be in the vehicle…although his learners permit REQUIRED a fully licenced driver in the starboard seat…..after a fuss it transpired this individual was the proud owner of a licence to only drive a car…with the restrictions that it have an automatic transmission and corrective glasses.

  5. Political correctness is like a cancer run amok…if you don’t hold the ‘correct’ opinions it will cost you promotions, jobs, tenure.
This is similar to Germany in the fascist era…where my great uncle got deep sixed from the university for not being an ardent regime supporter.
So much for being ‘bastions for free speech and debate’. Nope your opinion isn’t PC, therefore your speech and or job is not protected.
    Nice…

  6. Perhaps a better title for the blog linked might have been
Universities fail to detect free speech.

  7. Since we all have a ‘right’ to never be offended or even unsettled, can’t we label the education heirarchy as offensive and shut them up? Idiot liberals get far too much attention…

  8. It will only get worse until we replace liberal arts colleges with library cards. Universities should be reserved for real disciplines and only for the type of interaction that can’t be conducted online at a small fraction of the time and expense of the current racket. Most of the professoriate should have to find real work.

  9. I wonder if MacLean’s magazine will have include this in their next University ratings issue? Hmmmm…..

  10. I’d be curious to know which are the “real” disciplines and why they, too, could not be “conducted online at a small fraction of the time and expense”.

  11. “The University of Calgary supports students sharing their views about subjects in a respectful manner,” said Grady Semmens, a spokesman for the school.
    ………
Daniel Paolini, a member of Western Lifeline, said he applied to the director of student life, who works for the student council, and was told such an event would offend community standards.

“a respectful manner” = Toeing the leftist party line.
“offend community standards” = Opposing the leftist party line.
    See how simple that is?
