The Canadian Government has . . . wait for it . . . actually decided to enforce immigration laws. Here’s Jason Kenney talking with David Akin about this precedent-setting move. Charles Adler shares his thoughts too.
Of course, the usual suspects think this is a really, really bad idea.

Ummmmm….so why doesn’t BC’s version of Tass allow comments? Oh wait…
Wasn’t it just a year ago that many people here were whining about Steve Harper, CINO?
Let’s see now..
Gun registry? Check
CWB? Check
Out of Afghaniland? Check
Better rep by pop? Coming (although still too many sops to Quebec)
Human Rights travesties.. er.. tribunals? Working to rein them in
Citizenship porosity? Check
Not bad in less than a year, by my book, anyway.
Whaaaat?
No more ‘Visas for strippers who donate to the liberal party’ program?
How f-ing crooked has Ottawa been all this time, that the CPC gets a majority in May and by December has cleaned up all this stuff?
Hey Lefties. Shut up, YOU LOST. BWAHAHAHAHAAAAAA!!!!
This really has to be confusing to the Libs and Commies. The racist Conservatives have let in more immigrants of assorted colours that they ever did. There are no points to be gained by the opposition in opposing cracking down on illegal activity. Removing the citizenship of someone who has spent a week or two in their whole life is hardly taking the moral high ground. The Libs and Commies have been beat on immigration and their wisest course is to simply STFU.
Removing the citizenship of someone who has spent a week or two in their whole life is hardly taking the moral high ground
That would be opposing the removal.
The “journalists” have began masturbating the poloticians.
The politicians will soon succumb and ejaculate cash.
Tha is the history anyway.
I wonder how many Canadians are aware that a landed immigrant who (a) has been resident in Canada a minimum of 10 years and (b) has reached the age of 65 is eligible for Old Age Security. At 10 years’ residence, they are eligible for 10-40ths of the normal 40-year residency payout. Not a lot, but that’s not the prize they’re after. If their income falls below a certain level (which is easily arranged) they are also eligible for Guaranteed Income Supplement. The GIS can be worth upwards of $900 per month. So someone who has presumably resided in Canada for 10 years and who quite conceivably has not contributed a dime, can collect as much as $1,000 a month or more. And that’s just from the federal government! Provincial governments add to the pot. Of course, this is all predicated on their actually being here in the first place – something that is too easily faked – at least up until now. How much are YOU expecting to get from the government when you retire?
Toronto,Ottawa,Vancouver and Montreal all have plenty of immigration consultants/lawyers who know how to play fast and loose with the rules. For a fee they would gladly aid and abet any one through the process of obtaining Canadian citizenship.
A few years ago when civil unrest broke out in Lebanon there was a hue and cry for the Canadian government to evacuate 10,000 “Canadian Citizens”who were supposedly tourists or visiting family. Most of these people were collecting Canada pension and old age pension while living in their old homeland. The federal government had to charter cruise ships to repatriate their scheming asses back to Canada. As soon as things calmed down in Lebanon you can bet that most of these “Canadians” returned to their country of choice and resumed living a comfortable lifestyle courtesy of the Canadian Taxpayer.
Oh dear! What will poor Ruby Dhalla say??
good way to deplete the lieberal ridings. maybe Hot Cross Hedy Fry’s will be most in jeopardy.
“Gun registry? Check

Get back to me when the tackle affirmative action. The rest is just small potatoes to me.
“Our message is clear: if you want to become a Canadian citizen you have to play by our rules. You have to respect our country and you have to be honest. Canadian citizenship is not for sale.”
If only THAT message had been told to immigrants the last 25 years!
What a complete turnaround from the Liberal days when citizenship was for sale, cheap, especially if they thought you’d vote Liberal! Chretien’s Canada handed out immigrant status like a two-dollar whore dispensing favors.
I sent an E-mail to the PM this morning, congratulating him for all the repairs he’s trying to get through,Kyoto,CWB,LGR,crime Bill!
Stephen Harper has done more to set Canada right in the last 6 months than the Chretien Liberals did in 10 years!
It’s time we quit bitching and give the man our heartiest “thank you’s”.
Harper is under a withering artillery barrage by the Lib/Dips and MSM, and he stands fast.
Let’s give him our support, and cut the complaining.
“Lamoureux also argued that major decisions, such as revoking thousands of citizenships, ought to be discussed by Parliament. He urged Kenney to be more “accountable” by bringing such issues to the Commons committee on citizenship and immigration.”
Since when are we called before the house to account for enforcing existing Canadian law? I am sure all the lefties would love to replace important work with endless hand wringing over the fate of those who would steal bread from the mouths of our seniors. So much less of their entitlements would come under scrutiny in the next 4 years. Nice try Ahole.
“We have to make sure that we separate those who are deliberately cheating the system from those who are victims themselves.”
this is the recurring theme … turn the perps into victims than lay out the guilt trip.
If those folks were duped, it’s because they were LOOKING for a short cut. If they apply through a Canadian embassy, they will find out what the proper procedure is for immigrating to Canada. It’s not all that expensive, but it does take a long time and you may not qualify …. they the 25 grand for the short cut.
Spare me lefties …. i do not ride unicorns.
“I kind of wish (Kenney) would approach the processing of citizenship with the same sort of enthusiasm (he has) to take away citizenship,” said Lamoureux said.
Naturalized Canadian citizenship is not a right, it is a privilege.
This is not Club Canada.
As to Jason Kenney’s enthusiasm: It’s about damned time that a Canadian government or federal party had any enthusiasm to pursue the rights of legacy Canadians to the security of their sovereign citizenship and to see that their taxes aren’t wasted on scoundrels and sanctimonious Leftist causes.
In short, Jason Kenney has enthusiasm for doing his job properly.

The other prize they are after – is FREE healthcare in retirement.
Not allot different than these so called “professionals” bringing in their ailing, aged, and retired parents/ grandparents through sponsorship.
They have contributed nothing into the system their whole lives but reap all the medical care they need after they have lived a tax free existence as they do in many of these countries.
The tipping point, for me, will be THE CBC.
When it receives it’s mortal wound, my $upport will be forthcoming, registry notwithstanding….
Not a day earlier.
I was shocked, shocked I tell you, to read that the Libranos are very concerned that some may lose their right to vote.
I believe this is simply over reacting. As Volpe demonstrated, they will regain this right once they have passed on into the next life. A little patience goes a long way.
The government must “differentiate between those who knowingly commit fraud and those who have been duped themselves..” What a pile of crap! There are two groups, those who have lied or had others lie to help them stay in Canada or those who have lied or had others lie to allow them live elsewhere but claim Canadian benefits and both should lose benefits and any chance of citizenship.
Well done Kenney, Harper and the rest of the Conservative government you’ve done more since winning the election then most governments do in four years.
“you’ve done more since winning the election then most governments do in four years.”
In May, Canadians rejected Liberal corruption and theft. Canadians turned up their noses at the moonbattery being offered by the NDP and Greens. And Canadians finally tired of the endless buggering about and getting nothing done of a minority government. Canadians opted instead for responsible, common sense government and elected a majority Conservative government to clean up the mess and make some sense of the chaos that was Ottawa.
Much has been done … gun registry, CWB, illegal immigration, Kyoto scam. Yet every move that the Harper gov’t takes is met with hostility, obstruction, whining and hints of civil disobedience at levels that have never been seen before from the usual suspects.
Let’s hope that the government has the cajones to stay the course, ignore the sore losers and make things right. Next … CBC. One can only hope and pray at this point.
Yeah there’s no loophole in the lib-dipper “but I was lied to!!!” defense. It’s simply impossible that a fraudster would falsely claim they were lied to. No way that could happen.
I just made the mistake of watching CTV newnet for a moment – they introduced this story with a clip of a choir of multi-cultural, angelic young people singing.
Yes, those dreaded tories are picking on vizmins who can sing! The nerve!
I suspect hundreds of thousands of immigrants live out of the country filing fake tax returns and falsely claiming benefits like GST credit, Old Age supplement etc. Sitting in the sun in Portugal, Italy, Lebanon, Hong Kong etc. drawing their free money and having a Canadian passport for emergencies. This is but the tip of the iceberg.
The Liberal Party really has to come up with believable policies as to how they would govern. Criticizing law enforcement isn’t going to get them points among voters who they are going to have to steal from the Conservatives. The Liberals always used to have the smart guys as advisors. Now they have pure idiots. What changed?
Oh – forgot family allowances. How many parents collect family allowance (child tax benefit?) where neither the parents or children live in Canada. Once someone gets family allowance there is negligible follow up on eligibility.
I recall once, not long ago, as my wife and I were waiting to board a flight from Hong Kong to Vancouver, the pre-board announcement came on. We waited. And waited, as a stream of more than 20 elderly wheelchair-bound east Asians were assisted on board. Think they were coming to Canada for the sea air? My guess would be the free health care and the myriad of other free programs available to them.
To all of the skeptics who kept saying that the CPC wasn’t conservative enough: Here’s proof that the CPC is on the move!
Good on the Honourable Jason Kenney (and PM Harper). I’ve written to them to thank them for this initiative.
