Be Brave! Be True! Be Conservative!

With a small “c” too. Publius has some advice for Ontario Progressive Conservatives (why does that oxymoron survive?):

The MSM has created the monster of Mike Harris, a crude caricature that has been successfully used to frighten the Ontario PCs back into their default Red Tory mode. They’ve been duped. The media is not the electorate, nor do they hold the same sway over the voters of this province as they once did. The internet has allowed voters more direct access to information and to candidates. The scare power of the MSM is greatly weakened…
The Ontario PCs have been playing a political game defined by their enemies. The Left is telling us what is and what is not too conservative. At such a game the Tories can never win. They are playing a game with loaded dice.
Rather than letting the Left define what the Right should be in Ontario, as well as in Canada as a whole, we should be defining that ourselves. The political middle is a constantly shifting target. A well timed and sold policy can shift that middle to either the Left or Right…

  1. Maybe I’m not up on TO politics. But why didn’t the Progressive C’s learn from Rob Ford’s election?
    Didn’t Ford run a centre-right campaign?
And, you know .. win … in TORONTO!?!?!?

  2. Once again the Frank Graves/Toronto Star etal will have egg on their faces tomorrow, this election will go conservative and it will once again demonstrate the utter stupidity of the media intelliduncia in central Canada. People are growing up, starting to see the folly and stupidity of the deviant liberal mindset, liberals are useless to society, they lie, cheat, steal, and scam taxpayers money constantly and don’t bathe regularly, who needs liberals? No one! Adscam HRDC Kyoto Grand Mere Romanian strippers, gun control, national daycare, think Ontario, is it fun being a have not province under this liberal idiot?

  3. @Eagle
And Mike Harris won two majorities. It doesn’t stop the Ontario PC’s from running away from him as fast as possible.
As someone who used to be involved as a Tory operative, I can tell you that a lot of this is personal. A lot of political operatives in the Tory parties view guys like Harris, Klein, Wall, as simpletons and hicks. They are out to prove how much smarter and sophisticated they are as opposed to those guys. Then, when they inevitably lose, they blame the social and fiscal conservative base for the loss.
I think a lot of grassroots conservatives would be shocked to find out how liberal most of the people running their parties are.

  4. @bartinsky
Hey, what’s your problem with the Romanian strippers?! They were good. I miss them as much as I miss Mike Harris. He was the best.

  5. McShifty is offering the Ontario voter the ‘eco-green hustle’.
You get to pay more more more for giant propellor heads across the province. Unfortunately, the great wind is only coming form McShifty’s pronouncements on so called eco friendly grifting through dubious efficiencies at energy production.
Should Ontario voters fall for this rag tag grifter operation, one thing will occur for certain; the Ontario taxpayer will be shifting green from their jeans into the coffers of the waiting government who have managed to increase government spending by 50% over their term of office.
A government that is the antithesis of economic freedom. But I suspect that ‘bartinsky’ may have a bead on things in Ontario.
Here is a question for Premier ‘Dad’:
Luke 11:11 What father among you, if his son asks for a fish, will instead of a fish give him a serpent; 12 or if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion?
    Cheers

  6. As Rob Snow on CFRA says, “Mike Harris is not the Boogieman, he’s the good old days!”

  7. Publius is right and so are bartinsky (the last part)and slaw. Hopefully bartinsky is right about the first part also, but possibly the entitlement mentality has sunk in too far. Mind you, as far as entitlement offerings go there is almost no difference between McGuinty and McHudak.
Manitoba was the same with two parties trying to out NDP each other.
It is disgusting the so called right lets the left define it and set the bar, which is constantly shifting to the left.

  8. John; nothing wrong with the Romanian strippers, it was the method of immigration that was usurped, and there were plenty of Swedish and Dutch strippers trying to get into Canada at the time that couldn’t. What I was trying to say is Liberals are liars cheats thieves and all around useless to a productive society. Don’t ever fear, when the books are opened on this “green thievery” there will be billions that flowed into liberal off shore accounts, be it liberal politicians or liberal greenies like Algore and Suzuker. This SCAM will break the western world like it has the gullible and equally stupid and lazy Europeans. And yes, Harris was a good man, good enough to drive lefties and their compliant media whores, crazy.

  9. I think a lot of grassroots conservatives would be shocked to find out how liberal most of the people running their parties are.

I can believe it. And I don’t think I’d be that shocked.

  10. first thing all the provincial “conservative” parties should do is drop the “Progressive”. That should weed out some of the riff raff…

  12. bartinsky said “Once again the Frank Graves/Toronto Star etal will have egg on their faces tomorrow, this election will go conservative….”
I hope your right about this. I myself am not feeling to optimistic about things. I agree with Eagle on this. Did they not just watch the Ford election in Toronto? They should have come out swinging.

  13. Talked to my Conservative candidate’s husband last night and he said the same thing, instead of focusing on the economy and the myriad of crap McGuinty did on every facet of the government the Conservative brain trust just let it slide. As Alberta has found the left never stop infiltrating and weakening the conservative message.
You will never win chasing the Liberal platform, you have to to stick to the message as Harper, Harris and Ford did and the populace will follow. Red Tories like John Tory and Hudak will always lose with their mushy message.

  14. When Dalton’s “humble” – “I’m not the most popular person” – ad came out, I thought the PC should have immediately responded reminding everyone why, and there are PLENTY of reasons and probably many more we don’t really know about.
I too can only hope the electorate shows some reason. I’ll gladly take a PC minority, anything to get rid of that SOB. In my perfect world, Dalton would not win his riding. That would make me smile.
I’m with FKA gord, they should have come out swinging.

  15. Please give me a sign…
    What do I do?
Tune out! Drop out! And forever and a day try to live under the radar of a the parasitic state that we see growing every day?
I’ve been voting and working with those who believe in us keeping that which we earn through hard work every day but it seems we’re losing.
I’m ready to make a break and get under the radar.
There can’t be fewer than many that are fed up with the state taking from those who do to give to those who won’t!
Does the leadership not see that this is the end we are encroaching on?
The Wall Street mob think they’re moving the goalpost to the end.
They have no idea what those who have paid for their ejucashuns are ready to do to defend their slice of the pie.
Roger Waters was eloquent when he sang “Share it fairly but da da da-da =da-da-da da-da dah!”
    Morons!

  16. Manitoba stayed with the devil they knew,I have “Grave” doubts Ontarians are much more politically astute.
    We’ll see shortly.

  17. Being from Ontario (13 years in Alberta!), nothing will change in their politics.
The civil service is to bloated and those people will protect their own jobs.
The rest of the electorate are to afraid to institute meaningful and thought out change because they like being coddled and don’t care how many future generations will have to pay for it.
Ontarian voters don’t for FOR anything; they vote

  19. Exactly.
If your every move and word is planned so that you say nothing controversial, then you say nothing. And, you’re marching to someone else’s drum.
Eves and his crew couldn’t figure it out. Neither could Tory. And now it’s strike three.
Hopeless amd hapless. For a paper that’s supposed to be a lefty rag, I’d say that the Toronto Star has mesmerized Hudak and Co.
So, until they get around to replacing Hudak with somebody who has the balls and brains to send the advisors packing (Hillier, MacLaren), the Ontario PCs can kiss my Royal Canadian Arse.

  20. My polling station was dead too. Everyone knows that Hoodat is McShifty lite. Voting pc doesn`t get anything. Some people here think that we should vote pc anyway just to show the man what we believe in. It just shows you`ll vote for a Liberal if he calls himself conservative. There is no pretending that the pc are not liberals. They copied McFooly`s platform for gds sake! All they would have had to do was pretend to be conservative (ie grow a pair) and they would have had it in the bag. Idon’t think it is prudent to reward these tossers a vote just for having the right name. It sends the wrong message, plus they will inevitably f everything up,you wjll have voters remorse and they will forever be that media caricature of why conservatives are losers.
On the other hand don’t give the libs or dips a vote either. You know that sends the wrong message. You have to either destroy your ballot or vote libertarian or freedom party or maybe there is some other micro party that is actually conservative. It doesn’t get anyone elected, but it sends the right message: you want a conservative government and you are not willing to settle for a CINO. Don’t doubt voter stats aren’t micro analyzed. Let them see that libertarian vote go up by 100% from one to two votes in your riding and sleep better knowing you voted in your own bezt interest.
Ontario is a mess and always will be until there is a true cnservative leadership entrenched in power. But but but whatever.

  21. Looks like a Liberal minority, yeah.
    Very true what you say.
We need to get rid of the Oxymorons first.

  22. … & mosqueterias, & sex ed for six-year-olds, & Green Energy boondoggles, & unchallenged native uprisings, & preferential hiring for newly arrived immigrants, &….

  23. One of the most frusturating candidates since John Tory.
All you’ve got to say is that you will stop installing windmills in everyone’s backyard (any you are not a NIMBY if you don’t want one), cut ties with samsung, cut all day kindergarten and stop spending like a drunken sailor,
Now, we will continue our politically correct, have not slide.
Let’s all do the Obama / McGuinty have-not shuffle..

  24. CBC has just declared the Libs a winners, majority!
Congratulations to McGuinty,he managed to fool ’em again!
    Allah almighty!

  25. According to Sun News,Globull, and the Commie Broadcast Corp,Libs in a majority. And NO….we want ZERO more refuges from McSquintyland coming to AB.All the smart ones are all ready here.

  26. I think congratulations are due to Mr. Hudak, who has snatched DEFEAT from the very jaws of victory. Weakest, worst showing by a political party in my memory. What a sorry bunch of bastards the PCs are. We suck.
A quick look at the National Post election map tells the tale. Southern Ontario is sea of blue with islands of red in it. F-ing idiots. Oh, and as predicted Hamilton went solid NDPee. Confirming my good sense in getting the hell out, that town is circling the bowl, baby.
Also as predicted, both voters in Northern Ontario voted NDPee as well. Except Sudbury, where the Libs pulled a squeeker against the commies.
    http://www.nationalpost.com/news/canada/politics/ontario-election/results.html

  27. This is exactly what happened in Manitoba two nights ago. See The Black Rod blog for a good analysis.Manitoba is doomed to 4, or maybe 8 years of NDP gov’t. we are done like dinner.

  28. Phantom, don’t be stupid. The weakest, worst showing by the Tories was in 2007 under John Tory, their worst performance since the first victory by Mitch Hepburn in 1924.
Osumashi, it’s really quite simple. There’s a regional split in Ontario. Toronto and Ottawa and a small part of the GTA voted Liberal. Hamilton, Windsor and Northern Ontario voted NDP, and all the rest voted PC. That means the Liberals win even if there’s a virtual tie in popular vote, which there was.
The problem is very simple. Ontario Tories need to figure out a way to break into the big cities. It’s the same thing that happened in Manitoba on Tuesday.

  29. Sorry conservatives of Ont., you got a dud for a leader again, I was wrong with my prediction, are there no men with balls left out there, this is embarrassing as Cretin used to butcher while saying, this thief Mcscuinty will now in Obongo fashion, totally drain the public trough, that is already 300 billion in debt, and shove what is left into green weinnie marxist programs, Good Luck idiots.

  30. All Conservative politicians should once again take note of Kate’s SDA header. Whodad threw the election and all decent citizens of Poor old ‘tarrio’ in the gutter, IMO. I do know how Conservative minded citizens in Ontario felt as I am in the same position here in the Yukon. Here, in the luxury welfare territory (YT); we have a ‘one party election’ going on – all parties wooing the ‘silly cervant ‘ vote – the Yukon Party claims they can get higher transfer payments because the PM likes the YP leader – the Dippers and Greenies and Liebrils think that the $$ from the ROC is a sure thing and they will jus spend! spend! spend! and Sask and Alta will just pay! pay! pay1- no development, no production, just transfer payments – in the billions – for 30,000 pipples. Half of he pipples are Federal charges since they live on Reservations. There is only one candidate that I could vote For because he took on the past corrupt premier and sat as an Independant; however, I don’t live in that fine man’s riding. I do like he new Yukon Party (Whodat progressives – posing as PC’s) premier but he is like whodat in poor old tarrio; surrounded by dipper-lite ‘advisers’. As a former businessman, he is not ‘savee’ about the media and the ‘game’ – he is listening to his hack help and putting all his eggs in the ‘better health care’ basket. It’s anyone’s guess what group will win but it will not be a Conservative victory because there are only two Conservatives running and they are not spouting any Conservative values or ideas. Sad.

  31. Voting totals down quite a bit for Grits and Tories.
Took one sniff of the early Hudak clown fest in my area and then
sent a contribution to a good (winning) candidate elsewhere.
    Vote? For what?

  32. Bottom line on the MB & ON elections: when PC parties decide to throw out the “C” and focus on the “P”, they get their ass kicked.

  33. “Sorry conservatives of Ont., you got a dud for a leader again” – Posted by: bartinsky at October 7, 2011 12:42 AM
That should have read “Sorry Progressive Conservatives of Ont., you got a dud for a leader again”.
Fixed that for you. There is no conservative party in this province.

  34. Politcs in Ontario is a sad joke and has been a sad joke for a long time. This province is home to the dumbest voters in the country. When we were the economic engine of the country we pissed away our wealth to the squeaky minority and now we create huge debts for them as well, all willingly.
Mike Harris stood up and fought the good fight but in the end the media will grind you down until your name is synonymous with the devil. They do that to Ford everyday in Toronto. By next election Fords name will anathema in Toronto and any conservative running in the province will have to run so far to the left in order not to be a target of MSM.
All I smell is fear and apathy in Ontario. I hear some parasite on the radio justifying his “occupation” of Bay St. and nobody challenges him openly for union-media distraction that he is just to get some clown re-elected in States. I see jokes like Tory and Hudak passing for conservatives. I see the lowest voter turnout in Ontario last night. I see a lobotomized generation that has no idea how clueless and defenceless they are.

  35. Sgt Lejaune is right.”Vote? For what?”. It is tough to get excited about an election when the only choices are all on the left and media party is constantly slamming any voice that rises to support anyone on the right. Stalin’s boys did a good job of infiltrating our society.

  36. It only needs 1 MPP to cross the floor after a promise read bribe from McSquinty or a resignation & a by-election & he has a majority.

  37. cgh said: “Phantom, don’t be stupid. The weakest, worst showing by the Tories was in 2007 under John Tory.”
I disagree. While John Tory was indeed a sorry excuse for a leader, and everybody knew it, this I have to say was worse.
A Conservative with “Change is coming!” on the side of his bus? With Obama TANKING, this genius takes on Obama’s buzz words?
Given the scandals and the taxes and the electricity prices and the freakin’ windmills and Caledonia and the insane behavior of the police in Toronto and on and on and ON, a golden retriever could have done better than Hudak.
Harper WON in Ontario, especially the 905. Ford WON in Toronto, even in the 416. Hudak was handed a minority win on a PLATE, a majority could have been his for the fighting, and he dropped it on the floor.
    So don’t be stupid.

  38. Jema, that was great, thank you or the “pipples” again.
The results are good for the CPC and PM Harper. Ontario needs lots of infrastructure spending and an energy plan. I suspect the feds will be pumping dollars into ON. It gives PM Harper a chance to take a leadership role in the affairs of ON while the other 3 parties battle it out in a minority. Let’s see if they, PMO, can keep eveyone above the fray here. A lot of CPC members are from ON. Never let a crisis go to waste 😉

Pretty much. Dolly McGee owes Hudak big time.
I mean, there he was, vital signs absent, and along came Timmy and resucitated him.

  40. Cross-posted at BCF, along with Ray Charles and Buck Owens singing It’s Crying Time Again:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TvQ0BMUKGgE
I watched Hudak’s acceptance speech (he won his riding) and though we’re all crying, he was far too happy.
I can’t help feeling that the Hudaks didn’t want to win this one. Hudak’s wife, Deb, looked jubilant — and there was no sense on the Hudaks’ part that this was Tim’s election to lose and that by not becoming the government they’ve condemned Ontario to another four years of hard labour with the McGuilty Government. ‘Not funny. ‘Not a laughing matter, Mr. Hudak.
It could be that the very serious illness of their daughter, Miller, dampened their enthusiasm to form the government, but for crying out loud, if they didn’t want to win, they shouldn’t have stayed in the race.
I’m extremely frustrated. It might work for Mr. Hudak to stay on as the Leader of the Opposition, but it’s a crying shame for the rest of us. I didn’t at all get the sense that Mr. Hudak understands that he was representing a whole segment of the population — those of us who are on the conservative end of the political spectrum and who are bloody sick and tired of funding unnecessary Lefty/union/Green government programs — and how disappointed we all are. I got the sense from his speech that this loss was somehow just fine with him and his wife. ‘No disappointment, that I could see. ‘Happy to lose. Thanks a lot, Mr. Hudak.
If you can’t stand the heat, get out of the kitchen. Ontario Conservatives were badly let down by Mr. Hudak’s campaign. I’d like to see a new leader.

I’d like to see a ‘real’ leader.

  42. The canary in the coal mine was when Hudak decided not to ditch the Ontario HRC.
After that, copying Dalton on ‘Green’, and all the rest, was automatic.
I’m not dismayed with the result. It would have been worse had a purpotedly ‘conservative’ party in power had continued the statist-leftist status quo.
