Operation Fast And Furious For Dummies

Ace of Spades;

Let’s see if I have this straight:
The smartest administration in the history of the world conceived of this plan.
The plan was to just let thousands of weapons flow to murderous drug cartels.
And then take those cartels down.
But they didn’t take the cartels down, because they didn’t track the guns.
They instead were to follow the money, but they also didn’t do that.
A US border agent was killed due to the illegal arms sent to a neighboring sovereign country in this massive covert operation.
In addition, so was the brother of a Mexican attorney general.
So were a number of other Mexican citizens murdered with these weapons — we don’t know the number yet.
In conducting this massive covert action, we lied to officials in this neighboring sovereign country, even though their people (and cops, and officials) were getting killed with our weapons.
As far as I know, we haven’t taken any action beyond arresting a few straw buyers… who could have easily been arrested, with the weapons, when they attempted to smuggled them or sell them.
We have not taken down any cartels at all.
In fact, we’ve not done anything except murdered people by indirect, but perfectly foreseeable, US covert action.
And the only outlet that is following this is FoxNews, so you can tell Fox is biased.

  1. And with any luck, SUN TV in Canada will follow suit,eh?
Geez, one might think Jean Chretien and Alfonso Gagliano are running Mehico,eh?

  2. Well, yeah.
Because the purpose of gun control isn’t to control guns, and it isn’t to reduce crime. The true purpose of gun control is to get DemocRats re-elected in Eastern cities, and to punish middle class Conservatives in flyover country.
The true purpose of Fast and Furious, obviously, was to be the foundation of a new round of gun control legislation.
Note to Conservatives, it is evident that the ruling class does not care how many people they kill or who they are. They care about remaining the ruling class. Or as Kate loves to say, “never attribute to stupidity that which is adequately explained by malice.”
    Here endeth the lesson.

  3. the purpose of gun ‘control’ is to disarm the populace so when eventually, an election doesn’t come around when it’s supposed to because of a manufactured ‘crisis’ like say…the assassination of a democrat president by what obviously HAS to be a ‘domestic terrorist member of the TEA party’…the people will be ready to accept their new masters and there won’t be any resistance…because that’s worked so well in every South American, African and Middle Eastern country it’s been tried in..like Somalia

  4. This SHOULD be the (mixed metaphor warning) straw that brings down the President, but I suppose like any good mafia boss,he’s protected by sufficient layers of underlings to take the fall and leave HIM unscathed.
It would be impossible to confirm, but I’d bet my bottom dollar that SOME of those guns ended up being used to kill Mexican cops and civilians.
The U.S. is led by a bunch of people the farmers back home used to call,”book smart”. I could never figure out for certain if it was meant as a compliment or insult. In this case,it’s the definitely the latter.

  5. This should be a bigger scandal than the Iran-Contra thing ever was; but you never hear about it except on right wing blogs.

  6. Bemused – “the purpose of gun ‘control’ is to disarm the populace…”
The primary purpose of gun control is to emasculate, demoralize and infantalize the populace.

  7. Hey, what’s the murder of a U.S. Border Guard by Mexican drug trafficers who were directly and illegally armed by the Obama Admin, when there is a British phone tapping scandal to cover?
I can’t remember the exact number of U.S. government officials that had murdered as part of Watergate before it became a scandal.

  8. Oops, that should have read:
I can’t remember the exact number of U.S. government officials that had to be murdered as part of Watergate before it became a scandal.

  9. According to Fox Cable last night, in addition to guns untracked going into Mexico, the DEA allowed one cartel to ship heroin unmolested into the U.S. in return for info on other cartels. Fast and furious should refer to how fast the most senior levels of U.S. Justice and White house are scrambling!

  10. Fortunately the gun-grabbers are not the sharpest knives in the drawer.
Early in 2009, the administration polled the military as to whether the military would assist in disarming the US public…response “Hell NO!!!” and a prompt leak……
A coupla months back Sarah Brady and her crowd got an audience with Holder, then OBOZO dropped by.
When Sarah Brady whined that LCC applied to all but 2 states…
Obozo assurred her that, “There was something in the works…” “We have to go through a process….under the radar.”
OBOZO was dumb enough to blurt that out and Sarah Brady was dumb enough to report this to her faithful(?).
Witness tthe TEA PARTY rallies…the lefties were panicked by this show of force by this “violent” element…(translation…possibly armed so not to be threatened by SEIU thugs in purple T-shirts)
A revolution is in the works…let us pray that it is a “velvet revolution”………

  11. What is the problem here? It’s just the Zero supporting his drugie friends from Chi-town. So what if a border guard gets nailed.Heck, they throw them in jail for doing their job! Or have you idjits forgotten that?

  12. sasquatch pretty much nails it.
“We have to go through a process….under the radar.”
There should be no way sir golfs a lot insulates himself from this if the MSM is honest….
    cough, cough

  13. Black Mamba said: “The primary purpose of gun control is to emasculate, demoralize and infantalize the populace.”
Ma’am, I must respectfully disagree. That is generally what happens, but it isn’t the reason the DemocRats pursued gun control in the USA.
Unlike other countries, Dems are playing to the Liberal ideal that (non-Liberal) people are stupid and must be controlled. It began in 1911 with the Sullivan Act in New York, passed primarily to control the sudden influx of foreigners and “undesirables” to the city. You know, “those people”. 1968 Gun Control Act, same deal.
The point isn’t to “emasculate, demoralize and infantalize” the whole populace, just the part that doesn’t vote for you. It worked until it finally stopped working under Clinton, that’s one of the major things that got Algore beat in 2000.
Notice that in the Post-Clinton eight years of Bush hatred, nobody of note even mentioned gun control. Sarah Brady became a leper, zero coverage. She’s still out there, just that nobody will say her name.
If “They”, the shadowy Bad Guys who pull the strings had -needed- the populace disarmed, they wouldn’t have let it go like that.
Barry IMHO is trying to re-ignite the fire in a bid to spank the Tea Party and majority Conservative states like Florida, Texas and Arizona. But because the people who came into power with him are a pack of IDIOTS who couldn’t organize a two man rush on a three hole sh1t house, the fire is now licking at the White House fence.
Stuff like this is why I don’t believe in conspiracy theories. Real conspiracies, like Fast and Furious, -always- come off the rails and somebody -always- squeals. Always.

  14. This will not go away no matter what vanishing act the Obamites pull.
It just gets worse the more you look. Black Manba is right. Untill the 20th century the idea that a person could not own arms to defend themselves, even a knife or other means. Would have been laughable.
They made special guns for Women for personel use.
Duels only really ended in the late 19th century.
Most of these leftie loonies would have ended up in boot hill by know in saner eras.
Now we wait for Police political thugs to save us like lambs to the buthcher. While the worst element of society has the wil & means to kill citizans.
Tis unatural state of affairs will end I hope in my life time.
    JMO

  15. ALL corrupt governments want a disarmed public. It’s not rocket science to understand that. Governments “of the people” encourage personal firearm ownership as a symbol of trust first and foremost.
The worlds left want to disarm the public because they know that they could never achieve their ideological Marxist global commune of “equality” while free people are running around with guns. Many of them simply don’t trust themselves with guns.
So in a way it is conspiracy.
The logic behind disarming the public holds absolutely no water compared to the rationality of public ownership. They will lie, cheat and steal to falsely prove their claims and push their agenda’s in concert with each other.
The left would rather take guns out of the hands of citizens and arm crazy people instead with bombs and other weapons of mass destruction, much like the killer in Norway recently. He got away with the bomb because he wasn’t even around to set it off. He got caught because he was still available to police as he was shooting people one on one. The victims even had the opportunity to hide had they had their wits about them, the bombing victims not at all. Bombs are banned in Norway as anywhere else in the world, yet a madman was still able to get one.
Banning guns has no logic save for unscrupulous and antidemocratic reasons. I vote that Fast & Furious was an attempt to push a corrupt government’s agenda against US gun ownership, while feeding drug cartel friends needed arms. Two or three birds with one stone, but it all went badly.

  16. Speaking of unintended consequences, check this out:
    //www.washingtontimes.com/news/2011/aug/5/mexico-towns-police-force-quits-after-attack/
The whole force downed tools and walked. Thanks Barry!

  17. IF we had a functioning media this would easily be the size of Watergate. Of course, obozo doesn’t have to lie because they’re never going to ask.
I think the Wapo editorialized on this: sure, it was a bad idea, but they had to do it because the NRA keeps blocking legislation.
It’s so hard to get things done when the bitter clingers keep interfering.

  18. Syria is a perfect current example. The populace have no weapons and cannot fight back against the ruling dictatorship.

  19. Gun control or not, the US citizenry have one huge $hitload of firearms that they aren’t going to allow to be confiscated, let alone give them up voluntarily. Guns don’t go bad and neither does ammo as long as you don’t store it in your fish tank.
Gun control is the least of their worries right now. Love the way Fox is the only network on the case though. Typical of such a story.

  20. tranio
Actually the Syrian government made a big deal(funeral) for some thousands of troop allegedly killed by the anti-Assad element.
Seems they were the victims of a crack down for refusing to shoot demonstrators…..their killers were Iranian Quds force and Hiz’Bolla from Lebanon.
In practical terms, a disarmed populace is not necessarilly harmless to tyrants.
As long as armed security forces are deployed, there are arms on the streets…obtainable to the resistance by simple/primitive means….or recruitable by the rebels….
Napolean’s troops occupying Spain named the Spanish rebels “Guerillas”(little soldiers). The “guerillas” used what we now call guerilla tactics…ambush and surprise…avoiding large scale engagements….armed by their women, who lured french soldiers into “honey traps”.
The guerillas forced the french to deploy larger and larger formations, taxing french manpower elsewhere, and placed them on the defensive in Spain…..in principle beseiged in the open.
While the guerillas never triumphed in Spain they greatly contributed to Napolean’s signal defeat at Austerlitz.
Afghans use the same word for foreign invaders AND gun-runners……..

  21. Speaking of Yankee gun-ownership,there must be one hell of a lot of guys in the U.S.A. stockpiling ammo and related products, because we still have a shortage of powder, primers, and bullets.
I was in my favourite reloading supplier the other day,and he was still restricting powder and primer sales per customer, and was out of many of the bullets I wanted. This has been going on for three years, situation is the same with five suppliers I frequent.
Under the circumstances, they could be making the wise choice.

  22. The true purpose of Fast and Furious, obviously, was to be the foundation of a new round of gun control legislation.
Bingo. Something right outta Alinsky…create a crisis and come in with the solution.
Obama’s so transparent, how do more people not see through him?

  23. I’d really, really like some lefty to explain to me just what the evidence is that Obama is smart? A bachelor’s degree and a graduate degree from Ivy league schools? George W. Bush has those qualifications. Do lefties think that George W. Bush is smart?
Any other evidence? I haven’t heard any.
What I think is that Obama is a good actor. He can read from a script and be convincing. That’s it. He has no other abilities.

  24. Any other evidence? I haven’t heard any.
Still haven’t produced those college transcripts, but they found potential presidential candidate Rick Perry’s really quickly…

  25. Amy P, They’ve been setting up the propaganda for this for quite a while now. I remember in 2006 or 2007 the Dems were starting to agitate for some more gun clampdowns because US guns were supposedly going to Mexico. Trouble was, there actually weren’t very many new, traceable guns going to Mexico. It was a lie.
So after Barry took control of the BATF they arranged for it to be the truth. The only problem they’ve had is that gun dealers and some AFT agents were not willing to go along with the gag, and started YELLING really hard about it. Guys were talking about this in Arizona gun shops two years ago. I’m pretty sure the stink goes right to the top of the manure pile.
There’s another, related scandal still hanging fire, Border Patrol agents getting orders to look the other way for armed drug and illegal immigrant smugglers in Arizona and Texas. I’ve been hearing dark hints about that for a couple years as well.
Don’t expect to see any of this in the MSM, they aren’t going to say -nuttin’-.

“What I think is that Obama is a good actor. He can read from a script and be convincing. That’s it. He has no other abilities.”
Yeah…..never heard anybody giving Matt Damon,

  27. Simple start a gun war with criminals and then demand strict gun laws to control the problem, only problem is the war was started by the Obama administration.

  28. Obama didn’t start the war on drug warlords but he is definitely enabling them. It’s tragic, the ineptitude. If it’s deliberate, it’s treasonous.

  29. Meanwhile, back here in Canada, the Conservatives, about to repeal the formal registration of most rifles and shotguns, still support 98% of Alan Rock’s C-68(1995) and 100% of Kim Campbell’s C-17(1991). The two gun bills that made a major contribution to the wipe out of the Progressive Conservatives and later the Liberals, and to the rise of the Reform Party and later Conservative Party.
So, simple possession of a firearm will remain a criminal offence, for which a temporary exemption may be applied for, the Possession/Acquisition Licence.
Thus, in effect, Canadian gun owners are leasing their own property from the government on terms and costs arbitrarily determined by the government. A civilian with a firearm will continue to be viewed as suspicious and a threat to the “public peace” by the police(20 years of indoctrination +
SWAT teams are called out at any hint of a firearm)
Any hint that you might use a firearm to defend yourself and members of your family from criminal violence is justification for denying or revoking a Firearms Possession Licence. (References are asked for instances of violence or statements relating to violence the applicant for a licence has made in the past.)
Note Ian Thompson, firing a few warning shots into the air at 3 attackers who were trying to kill him(burn his house down around him) and he’s faced with charges of “unsafe storage of firearms”.
Even if it is eventually dropped(no evidence in a disclosure to his lawyer Ed Burlew, as yet), Mr. Thompson is punished for defending his life by having to pay thousands of dollars in legal fees. Though, if he’d not called the police, he’d be better off. (“It’s not a Criminal Justice System, it’s the Criminal’s Justice System”-Lorne Gunter-columnist)
In political terms this is called persecution, and as they are only violating a “privilege” not a Right, the police and the government authorizing it, can’t be sued for doing so.
The Conservatives proposed a bill to clarify the Common-law principle of self-defence in the Criminal Code, but don’t mention firearms in it, deliberately so. In a recent interview lawyer Ed Burlew said some analysis indicates the bill may actually end up restricting self-defence even more than it is now.
So while we may gloat that the Obama administrations subterfuge at justifying more gun control, by allowing organized crime access to illegally purchased guns, has blown up in it’s face. Canadians need not be too smug.
If there was a poll of police and the Cdn. Forces asking if they’d obey orders to confiscate firearms from Canadians, most of them would say yes.
Those citizens attending Ian Thompson’s court hearing to show support for him, were frisked like they were boarding an aircraft while wearing a beard and a turban. They also faced SWAT team snipers on the rooftops.
This is not the same Canada that took Vimy Ridge, Juno
Beach, defended Hong Kong, and held Kap Young. No, not by a long shot. Our government no longer trusts the citizens to “stand on guard for thee!”

When I see that kind of thing – police putting on a show of force and pretending that there is some kind of grave danger – it’s frankly embarassing.
It’s kind of a ‘job justifiaction’ thing. They strut around putting on this great show, and unfortunately, that’s what policing has largely become: giving the appearance of providing police service (which is easy) instead of delivering the real goods (which is difficult).
Far easier to put on a show for the public at an ordinary guy’s trial, than to effectively deal with stuff like Caledonia.

  31. ‘operation merlin cia’. go ahead, google it.
check out george dubya’s involvement. go ahead.

  32. “Fast and Furious” is only the TIP of the iceberg. THAT operation was run out of the BATFE Field Division in Phoenix. There were also guns run from the Dallas, TX area, as well as the Houston, TX area. THOSE two areas are under DIFFERENT BATFE Field Divisions. Have you ever dealt with a bureaucracy? How probable do you think it is that Dallas and Houston were run by Phoenix? Or is it MORE LIKELY that the agents in THOSE Field Divisions have not yet been honest enough to expose their perfidy? I would remind you that BATFE leadership had told Phoenix “In order to make omelettes, you have to break a few eggs“, as well as a suggestion that they go to work at the Maricopa County Jail if they didn’t want to be part of what BATFE was doing.
And by the way, even THIS is only ?most? of the part of running guns to Mexico. It doesn’t even TOUCH the gun-running to Honduras out of the Tampa Field Division of BATFE. Remember their ex-president Zelaya, who wanted to make himself a Chavez-for-life like his good buddy in Venezuela? Think that The One and his toadies may have seen an opportunity to aid him as well?
    The stench is overwhelming.

  33. Trollschoolwhatsit said: “‘operation merlin cia’. go ahead, google it.”
Yeah, ok. Which has what to do with the Barry regime caught red-handed, deliberately arming Mexican drug gangs?
You guys slay me, you really do. A DemocRat president pulls off one of the most heinous cop foul-ups/propaganda fails of the century, right out in the open now, no question about it, all you can do is scream BUUUUSH! BUUUUSH!
I can’t even mock you, that level of w@nkerosity is a stand-alone spectacle.

  34. oldschollconservatist
I did go ahead and google Operation Merlin, it seems this bit of stupidity was created under the other DemocRat darling, Bill Clinton, not on George Bush’s watch.
    One of the links
    http://blueskysunshine.org/blog/?p=1942#axzz1ULopxNig
And an interesting quote from it:
“Don’t hold your breath waiting for the elite media to create a frenzy over this story. They will never hurt either Clinton with such a damning report,” says former intelligence officer Sid Francis.
    Thanks for the “tip”

  35. I came up with a similar idea for Afghanistan, but it involved booby trapped weapons. You have to make them fear pulling the trigger.

  36. Good observations Larry. The Conservatives in (R)ottawa) need to be reminded who took them to the party. They may schmooze with the PCers but their dates are the Reformers who worked like Trojans to rid ourselves of PCers and Bolsheviks (Liberanos/Dippers/Blocheads/greenies). We paid for the tickets and we made the rules before we agreed to take them to the trough fest in R(ottawa). Now that the Reformers have a majority I believe they need a reminder of the terms they signed on to when they rode in on our dollars.

  37. This “Gunwalker” thing is bigger than most realize…my suspicion is that the “Debt Ceiling Crisis” was deployed to divert attention…
To an extent it worked but……it created yet another rod for the Obamination’s back….
