The Left vs. ‘Can-Do’ Citizens

This morning Dennis Miller had a brilliant, off-the-cuff rant that accurately points out how the Left is consistently against every form of energy needed to power a nation. In America today, the Democrats are truly the party of “No”!

  1. What a viscous slander against the American Left. They are not “against every form of energy needed to power a nation.” They are only against the efficient ones that work.

  2. It has to do with energy density. The Left can’t stomach the thought that anything is more dense than the common citizenry, so they want to limit power supplies to 1 horse-power (or is that one serf-power?). Therefore, no power supplies should be made available to the little people that has more power than the little person itself (can’t be sexist, can we?). The brilliant leadership class requires other sources, of course, so we can’t apply that thinking to them. After all, their minds are so dense that it’s beyond normal comprehension.

  3. “They are only against the efficient ones that work.
    No kidding!
I too am confused like Mr. Miller. First it was nuclear power bad. Then the former head of Greenpeace declared nuclear power good. Supposedly the industry was going through a renaissance of sorts. Japan happened, and we’re back to square one. Even though the Japan reactor design was inferior, and who knows why it was placed right beside the water in the ring of fire.

  4. So only solar panels are acceptable, right? And where do they come from? From solar panel bushes grown organically on fair-trade panel farms?
No, for the most part they come from China. And the Chinese don’t grow them in rice paddies. (They actually use their food crops for food, as silly as that sounds.) No, they make them in coal-powered factories. And production of solar panels is one of the most environmentally-unfriendly processes going.
The western eco-nutter doesn’t really care about the environment IF the damage is out of sight and IF it’s only harming little brown or yellow people, and not them personally.
    They’re not pro-environment, just anti-human.

  5. “The left” is nothing more than the mental condition of certifiably crazy people, who have the ability to articulate lies and hypocrisy extremely well.
They are an anomaly in civilization that has never existed in vast numbers outside of our modern, wealthy western nations. Indeed they will destroy us eventually if left unchecked for much longer. I believe even the majority of “lefties” know that reality somewhere amongst the toys in their attics.

  6. Watch what is going on the UK. After regular double digit increases in electricity rates due to “green” power, “green” taxes and “green” regulation the public is finally beginning to rebel against government-created energy poverty.
    http://af.reuters.com/article/energyOilNews/idAFL6E7IM1AM20110724?sp=true
LONDON, July 25 (Reuters) – The British government faces a public backlash against its green energy agenda as consumers are unwilling to spend more on power and gas bills to pay for investment in low-carbon forms of energy, a parliamentary committee warned on Monday.
    and the governments response:
    * Better government, industry engagement with public urged
    * Energy suppliers should make tariffs simpler – group
But, of course, it is just a messaging problem. Once people understand the process better they’ll look forward to paying skyrocketing energy prices. Morons.

  7. One positive note is that both the left and the right are pushing for nuclear power. We can only hope that something happens in that direction soon, especially with the recent (semi)advances related to thorium.
Look on the bright side… at least they’re not Germany.

Germany is waking from it’s enviro nightmare…..after the carbon-credit larceny…and Russian extortion for Natural Gas and the Black-outs/high costs of Wind…they are recommissioning mothballed nuclear plants….prematurely mothballed due to unrealistic/fanciful expectations of Green Energy.

  9. When we are digging for roots to feed ourselves we should all be reminded that the foam at the mouth tree huggers make the best fertilizer because they are so full of sh*t. I guess they think that after the last polluting power station shuts down, life will still go on as before.
Perhaps the best way to bring common sense to the surface is to shut down every power station in the country for 14 days. Let the windmills and solar panels carry the load.
That should shut them all up for the foreseeable future and perhaps “drill baby drill” would even seem logical again.

  10. Dennis has a way of cutting to the chase. Although I thought he was of-base somewhat in touting solar panels. They work well in small applications and more people are using to power electric fences for cattle or charging RV batteries and so on. I am not an engineer and can speak for or against solar panels in an industrial scale, but I expect that millions of acres of solar panels would not be enough.
“The left” is nothing more than the mental condition of certifiably crazy people, who have the ability to articulate lies and hypocrisy extremely well. That is true, but it is more sinister than that. They have all bought into the idea that they can create a new socialist man in a new socialist world. They have also married this idea together with radical environmentalism. If this means the deaths of billions of people to achieve this by what ever means necessary so be it.

  11. Ken:
I used to work for a company which built the “Skyswitch” – a solar powered telephone system for use in remote communities (mostly Africa). Research after research has shown that after clean water, the most important thing you can provide a community with is information. Sadly, in many cases, the opposition to our system came from official governments, whose goal was not to inform their primitive tribes, but to control them. I gave up on Africa shortly thereafter.

  12. KevinB, this is the sort of application I meant.
solar could probably work well in certain niche areas.
BTW, I left a word out in my comment. It should have said I am not an engineer and can “not” speak for or against solar panels in an industrial scale.

  13. Urbanite Dennis still promoting throwing billions away to the wind energy parasites.
Stop your pompous wind insanity Dennis and listen to the opening caller – his life is being ruined.

  14. Bluenoser: “Urbanite Dennis still promoting throwing billions away to the wind energy parasites.”
And, besides, they kill birds, don’t they?
I, too, thought Dennis gave short shrift to his caller. I like these funny guys, but if they have call-in shows, they need to listen to the callers.

  15. batb, I didn’t go into a rant on how Greece and its devotion to renewable energy scams has helped bankrupt them. For Miller to rave about the lovely sight of wind turbines dotting the hills as a sign of positive change for Greece was too much – either he was enjoying listening to himself at that stage, or he’s got a portfolio full of windy investments. I can only imagine what the caller would have liked to have told him after that spiel. Cheers.

  16. peterj 11:12 pm, A continent wide blackout for 48 hrs. would probably do it. Here in N.S. our sole refinery has shut down early for necessary maintenance, and shortages at the pumps are cropping up already – it’s a taste of what’s to come for our eco-nuts, because it won’t be operational for another two weeks. Oops, forgot they only drive bikes.

  17. Like Robert W, I’m very fond of Dennis, who I think is very funny and very generous too.
Have we watched that 90 minute thing at the Reagan Library Kathy Shaidle has up?
BUT, yeah, it was shocking to hear him wax poetic about those ugly monstrosities.
And yeah, the caller was a mere trigger for Dennis’s own wind. Kinda reminded me of a scene from Barton Fink when the Goodman character kept telling the creative writer Fink that “I could tell you some stories”, but of course Fink was too self-absorbed to listen and exploit these stories.

  18. And on a calm day, in the sweltering heat, when there is no breeze, the windmills will do……..nothing. I live in northern BC and when we have the coldest weather for weeks on end (-30 to -40) the windmills do…..nothing. We spend untold millions for this kind of reliability ?
    It’s insane.
