In The Mail

The Benefits Of Socialism, by A. Hunter Solomon. “A comprehensive itemization of leftist contributions to humanitarianism, prosperity, liberty and society.”

“As you know, the recent election brought some remarkable gains for the NDP. It is critically important that mere ordinary people learn to appreciate the extent to which their meager lives may be bettered through leftist dogma.”

I read “Benefits of Socialism” from cover to cover, without putting it down. In my opinion, this may be the most illuminating book on the topic, ever.
Ever ever ever.

  1. Sorry, I probably won’t buy it. I think I know how it turns out in the end… Leaving you feeling empty, like all leftist dogma.

  2. All students who take Political Science 101 should be forced to purchase this book new as a object lesson!

  3. They’d be better off reading that french book that came out some years ago, the “Black Book of Communism” or some such, which is about as thick, talks about socialist regimes and meticulously documents their inevitable descent into paradise, via the mass murder of their subjects.

Predictably in a scurrilous site like wikipedia the defenders jump in defending socialism furiously.

  4. You can pay $20 and read a book and still not get a grasp of the extent of socialist intrusion in ordinary people’s lives, or you can ask me.
Many times on this blog you folks demonstrated inability to identify attributes of socialism obvious to me, and I am not confident any amount of book reading can completely close that gap.
Food rationing is still food rationing even when it’s done by private enterprise. Cheers!

  5. You have to dig a bit to catch the depth of Kate’s post – note the cover gives a pretty good hint.

  6. So I’m confused, does the book contain 666 blank pages or is the list written on, 666 non recycled paper, pages.
I suspect the former as an actual list of all socialist ‘benefits’ would be about as long as a list of Hutterite Heroes or World War Two.

  7. I was going to comment that it wouldn’t take long to read, and then I checked out the website at the link…

  8. heh – fun.
Oh and it’s 666 textless pages. BUT – printed on 512 pages to save paper. Oh, and it costs $17.76. Now, that’s a neat price.
They’ll ship it to you but only via unionized post; they don’t want non-unionists to sully it.
I think, however, that its content does succinctly sum up the contribution and benefits of socialism. Really. Really.

  9. “A comprehensive itemization of leftist contributions to humanitarianism, prosperity, liberty and society” and then you notice the flags on the cover….

  10. I have a brother-in-law who’s head will explode when I give him a copy.
    HAHAHAHA

  11. I will say, to its credit, that the cover includes fascism (the swastika) as part of the leftist community. The frequent claim, usually by the left, that fascism is an ideology of the ‘right’ is false.
Oh – and isn’t that Obama’s logo up there as well? Is it described in the book? In the same way as those others? heh.

  12. I just order two of them … one for my coffee table so the occasional socialist who may be in my home can peruse it. The other one is for a gift to some socialist asshole who richly deserves such a gift.
Don’t be cheap, buy one …. it’s blank you can use it for your memoir notes or shopping lists, or life’s story, or a list of the many benefits of capitalism or when goods a services are halted as some point in the future (and you know that’s coming) you can put it in the bathroom where socialism will finally be able to meet it’s true calling.
The guy who put this book up for sale is a ball buster with chutzpa … support him … this is the sort of thing that gives the left a sore stomach because it’s a true story and they have no argument.

  13. Fred2, exactly.
Further reading to “The Black Book of Communism” that illuminates all the benefits of socialism are “The Whisperers” by Orlando Figes, “Harvest of Sorrow” by Robert Conquest and “Communism” by Richard Pipes.
There are mass graves still being discovered in Russia and Eastern Europe that show the full extended benefits of socialism in its various forms.
Even the liberal-socialist blend we have here is constantly thinking of ways to intrude in our lives and impose group think. Even many Conservatives have been infected with this sickness.

  14. I suspected it was a gag, even before I read through the link. There was a similar book about Sarah Palin a couple of years ago. It’s a waste of paper, but then again, there are lots of other wastes of paper.

  15. I for one love reading stuff that does nothing to challenge my beliefs and only reinforces my world view. It’s like having a little love in with your own ideology and adding an extra layer of tint to your rose coloured glasses.

  16. Such thick clever sarcasm. Strange though, it is coming from people who didn’t read the book. Is this what Canadians are known for?

  17. sewsweetpink
This Canadian found it unnecessary to read the entire book as my reading comprehension is such that a perusal of this post and it’s links was sufficient to draw a conclusion.
Try hitting the links just for sh!ts and giggles.

  18. Wonder if universities would give me a degree for this kind of perusal of their text books. hmmmm

  19. sewsweetpink
I’m sure they will provided you can speed read as well as I can and the university text books use the same text as “Benefits of Socialism”.

  20. Since books usually cost more in Canada, I expect the price to be $18.67 or $19.68 ๐Ÿ˜‰

  21. Nice to note that the entire text is also Multi-lingual!
Nobody seems to have picked up on the reason that there are “666” pages. Google it.

  22. Does it list the 100 Million plus that have died at the hands of socialist governments like Hitler, Stalin Mao etc…

  23. The best book on this subject is Socialism, by Ludwig von Mises. Published in Germany in 1922, it carefully and deliberately deconstructs socialist theory and shows it for the fallacy it is

  24. “it carefully and deliberately deconstructs socialist theory and shows it for the fallacy it is”
Duh. Except it’s more in the nature of the cult where you have to have faith despite negative evidence.
    It’s a basically a mental/thought disease.

  25. Well, I followed the link. I wanted to see what sort of clap trap the blurbs might be offering. To my delight, it was actually rather humorous and gets funnier when you delve into the links on the page itself.

  26. Yeah the bones of millions can testify to the wonder of socialism. Waste laid Nations, HRC’s, kangaroo courts & sympathy for criminals. All socialist policies while they figt the evil middle class. Free needles for junkies while giving these political Apartchecks a golden rod.
Yeah socialism is great if your a control freak who wants to live on others money.
Its done such a good job in Eurabia.
    JMO

  27. Yes those people in Western Europe live such dreadful lives, except by any measurable standard.

  28. I do,I don’t speed comprehend though.
I ordered one to keep around the workplace.I’m a union member surrounded by hard-core lefties. This will piss them off when I’m not there to do it.
