Most Politically Savvy President Evah!

Indeed.

You don’t punish Donald Trump by giving him attention. A more experienced politician would know that. Nor is building Trump up good for Obama — Trump has actually hurt him more than all the others combined. Because, you know, Trump has actually been willing to criticize him without being afraid of the Big Media retribution.

  1. I am going to be so happy when the NYT goes belly-up. It’ll be schadenfreutastic!

  2. This could just be a decision maker for Trump to run, run for President that is.

  3. Sure, most of us would want to even the score, but we’d think again and be the better person, particularly if we held a high office and its accompanying dignity. This type of adult second thought is not part of the chicken$hit president. For example, taking air time to dance around with the birth certificate. Again, sure, it’d be tempting, but you’d think about your role and take the high road. Not him.

  4. Trump strikes me as so exaggerated in his rhetoric i’m wondering if he’s in cahoots with Obama. The Donald certainly isn’t going to win the presidency but he sure could raise hell with the republicans.Obama is quite creative in his approach to elections, in the illinois senate primary he got a judge to throw out his main opponents candidacy and in the US senate race he got a Chicago judge to unseal his republican opponents divorce record , exposing some dirt.Trump may be the latest version.

  5. Not that I have ever been in the position but pithing off a guy with that much money just lacks smarts.

  6. Trump donated $50,000 to Rahm Emmanuel’s campaign to be Chicago mayor, among other questionable donations to get Democrats(such as Charlie Rangel and Harry Reid) elected.
What kind of a Republican does that?
Trump sure must be a racist to have donated to Charlie Rangel, eh jess.

  7. Why, Kate, Obama’s so politically unsavvy that he lost the 2008 election by a landslide!

I get really tired of Obama’s supporters claiming he won the 2008 election by a landslide (I’m pretty sure I’m correctly interpreting your lame attempt at sarcasm). Yes, the electoral votes were lop-sided, but Newsflash: Obama only garnered 53% (69.5M) of the popular vote, McCain 47% (60M). A paltry three percent swing was the difference between the two.
So, despite a lackluster GOP candidate, and the lions-share of the MSM carrying Obama’s water during the campaign, he still only managed a popular margin of 3%. Yep. Real landslide there. Hardly a mandate to “fundamentally transform” the U.S. economy.
Regarding the birther issue, it’s hardly racist. McCain was subjected to the same scrutiny (see http://www.nytimes.com/2008/02/28/us/politics/28mccain.html), as he was born in Panama. Was that racist too?

  8. Jess the Troll has returned. Jess, if you could get past your talking points for a moment, what’s so “racist” about demanding a birth certificate of a presidential candidate?
EXACTLY the same thing happened to John McCain because of questions of his possible ineligibility concerning his birthplace. But that wasn’t racist, was it?
The convoluted plumbing of the Leftist mind is truly breathtaking.

  9. What kind of a Republican does that?

Playing devil’s advocate, I would suspect one who wants to grease political wheels in order to do business more…easily…in certain (read democrat-held) jurisdictions (Las Vegas, Chicago, New York).

  10. wants to grease political wheels
So the jobs generated by Trump’s enterprizes aren’t enough?
He has to bribe people for political influence?
Is that the kind of guy that Republicans are going to want to vote for?

  11. “The White House appears to have calculated that the more it can portray the Republicans as the party of Mr Trump, the better. ”
Good calculation. If they succeed,Obama will be a two-term President.

Hot damn, I was thinking along the same lines earlier in the day. Trump is no Republican and has contributed heavily to the Dems. He’s a flat out liberal, a statist who has built his empire on public domain.
He says he’s gonna have a surprising announcement in early May. I’m wondering if he’s gonna announce as an Independent. This would split the “right” and help the Dems and could fall under the rubric of being in “cahoots with Obama”. Let’s face it: we inhabit a truly insane world at the moment; a Obama-Trump tag team doesn’t stretch credulity — not mine anyway.
All along I’ve felt that Obama deliberately strung us along with the birth certificate thingee creating a right-wing trooferism and possibly garnering some sympathy as an “obvious victim of racism”. The immediate appearance on Oprah after the birther presser certainly supports that view.

  13. In some places in the US, unemployment is as high as 20%. Gas prices are double what they were when he came into office, and inflation is spiking. The spectacle of the President at a gala taking on a guy who shouldn’t even be a threat to him speaks volumes. It doesn’t mean that Trump will defeat him, but he’s effectively brought the One down to the level of the Donald.

  14. Will be interesting to see what happens next; specifically how Trump responds.
Although I am not a fan of Trump, I think that O’s mockery and ridicule was decidedly juvenile and what was up with comparing himself to the Lion King?. He would have been much better off if he had taken the high road in respect to Trump. I was under the impression that the evening was supposed to be dedicated to the White House press correspondents and journalism; not a platform for the sitting POTUS to campaign, but I could be wrong.
I’ve read a number of comments on popular blogs that suggest, at least to me, that the strategy to get rid of “the Donald” problem is to plant the seeds of conspiracy by insinuating that Trump is actually a plant by the democrats to embarrass the republicans and get them off track.
These comments have been copy and pasted into republican blogs purporting that Trump wrote a book back in 2000 stating he was a democrat, was for gay marriage and abortion.
Personally, I can not see Trump being anyone’s patsy. Are people to think that Trump was paid off to make an ass of himself? Highly unlikely. He doesn’t need anyone’s money and he understands all to well the concept of branding and how it is tied to reputation. After all, that is precisely how he made his billions.
Trump correctly read the American people and his non-PC approach is gaining him support. He actually is answering questions directly and immediately with candor and without PC laden terms or evasive and ambiguous statements that one must then decode. He is forthright with his answers. I think that is what is endearing him to many Americans – he is the cut the BS candidate. He is not playing the political game and his opponents are at a loss, so they have resorted to the Alinsky tactics of mockery and ridicule. Rightly or wrongly, these are my observations.

  15. Trump is a joke.
I really don’t like O.B., but I don’t know there is anyone out there.
I think the proverbial s–t is going to hit the U.S. ecnomoically, very soon and very hard, and I think both parties are quite content with not holding all branches of government: “Hey, we’re not to blame!”

  16. wants to grease political wheels

Oz, I’m not saying it’s pretty. It’s not. But doing huge real estate developments in the areas mentioned — needs permits, environmental assessments, geo-technical, etc. etc. etc……well, those things can go a bit more smoothly if you’re friendly with the local political machine.
Spending 50 grand to contribute the local pol to save 100 grand in permitting costs (or whatever) is smart business, and ugly politics. You’re damn right the jobs generated should be enough. But when you’re dealing with sleazy politicians, nothing is ever enough.
I don’t have a dog in this fight being from north of the 49th. I’m just calling it as I see it.

  17. I understand what you’re saying, Colin.
I just don’t think that registered Republican voters who connect those particular dots are going to want Trump after being forcefed on Obama sleeze for 4 years.

  18. Personally, I can not see Trump being anyone’s patsy

Trump’s not a patsy, he’s for rent. And it won’t be Obama paying the tab, the American taxpayer will be on the hook.
Oz: he doesn’t have to convince all republican voters , just 5 to 10%.enough to slip the election to Obama.

  19. Careful Jess you sound just like Joe Smoe and Alex, retirement not working out so well pin head? Keep writing those letters to the Chronically Liberal Hon.

  20. And here I thought the night was about making jokes about the media and the latest news stories
And here I thought that Obama’s reason for releasing his new fake BC was because he was such a busy man and didn’t have time for “sillyness”.
At least that’s what Zero’s claim was in the interview prior to jetting across the country to be on Oprah.
Obama had a few good lines y’know?
Were those lines Colombian or Bolivian?

  21. “Trump’s not a patsy, he’s for rent. And it won’t be Obama paying the tab, the American taxpayer will be on the hook.” Posted by Reg.
I simply don’t buy it. Being for rent is no different than being a patsy. Trump maybe many things, but a yes man he is not. If anything Trump would buy off another candidate to rent out for the purpose of covertly supporting Obama and destroying the GOP. He certainly would not put his own name and reputation to which all his wealth and that of his offspring is tied too in an elaborate charade to do so, nor would he allow himself to be publicly demeaned under the guise of taking one for the team.

  22. Jess
” Oooohh, it’s ‘fake’ too, is it, Oz? ”
    1) the first 2 or was it 3, “certificates of live birth were obviously counterfeit….wrong paper, wrong form, no seal and now this poor forgery again lacking a stamp….in living colour with a black ink signature (very rare).
Then there is his Conneticutt SSN…where he never lived or worked….
OOOOOH, OOOOH, OOOOH….do you work in a “community clinic”?

  23. jess
the potus’ job is NOT to verbally joust with the like of donald (the lefty), or Rush the limburger, or Drudge, or the cast of characters on Fox, it is to run the country, while ignoring these side distractions.
and as far as WMD in Iraq, try up dating your info base, as they found what they had not expected, and that is why the USA developed those nice new “bunker busters” that the Zero was waving around verbally trying to intimidate Iran
You see Jess, you ain’t just stupid, your uninformed also

  24. @Jess, you do realize that the US is now in three wars, as opposed to one under Bush and that Obama chooses now as the time to significantly reduce soldiers pay and benefits – sounds like mockery to me, of the worst kind.
However, given Obama’s promise, in print and on video, to form a National Civilian Security Force that is as powerful and well funded as the military, it only makes sense that he would reduce soldiers pay and benefits in an effort to discourage young men from enlisting and form his security force as a result.
“We cannot continue to rely on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives that we’ve set. We’ve got to have a civilian national security force that’s just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded….People of all ages, stations, and skills will be asked to serve.” Barack Obama, Colorado Springs, July 2, 2008.

  25. Obama publicly pissing in Trump’s cornflakes was a big mistake.
The Donald doesn’t get mad, he gets even.

  26. The real issue is who will win control of the senate next cycle. At $5 a gallon for gas it will be the republicans and even if obama wins, he will be a lame duck president for that entire term.

  27. I don’t see Trump as a Republican at all. He has used eminent domain in many commercial enterprises. He has voted Democrat and has donated more to that Party.
He is a Democrat caricature of a Republican, loud, pushy, rich and somewhat extravagant in money over values.

  28. Is the US in any shape for the TOTUS to be ‘joking around?’
The US is in grave economic shape, and all TOTUS can do is be glib, and try and cut his handicap on the next 18.
A real president would have things turning around by now, or at least stopping the bleeding. Instead they have Mr ‘Present’ around……

  29. Allen West would be an excellent republican candidate in my view. The left would not be able to use the race card and it’s no secret that West is a man of integrity.

  30. What’s that old saw about arguing with fools?
    Or was it a maxim?
Anyway … Obongo …. sure does not show any signs of understanding it.

  31. Obama a real man – he can’t even throw a baseball properly.
It’s a good thing that the troops stayed-thanks to conservative pressure, had they been pulled out of Afghanistan as Obama wanted to do last year, Osama would still be alive.

  32. It’s the eightth anniversary of…The day your hero George W Bush stood on the air craft carrier in his cute pilot outfit and proudly proclaimed “Mission Accomplished!!!!”
And so it is, Crazy Sammy is dead.
And the journey of 1000 miles begins with one step.
(at that time Zero was voting PRESENT!)
And in case you didn’t know, all of the moon landings were real.
    (all of them)
p.s. the words defict and debt don’t mean the same thing, you economic illiterate

  33. Just when I thought that O J,looking for his wifes killer on a golf course was streaching credibility, here Obama ,according to a poster, found Osama Bin laden on a golf course in the USA.At least thats what he would have us believe as he states that Obama found Bin Laden.
