Canada’s Journalists Are Hard Up For a Hero

The entirety of this post was shared by an SDA regular who wishes to remain anonymous, but I cannot take credit for his excellent research and writing:

Two days ago Canadian dailies were headlining this story, as if this fellow was some kind of true grit hero.

But you can’t expect a subsidized media to spoil the narrative with the truth.

It’s easy to be an elbows-upper when taxpayers foot your bills.

    1. I forgot to mention that the Sprung greenhouse operation was initially set up in Calgary and failed there before it was transplanted in its entirety to Newfoundland.

Nor sure if the Calgary operation received tax-payer funding.

      1. I believe it left Calgary because if couldn’t get any taxpayer money. It was also set up on a former oil refinery site, which they demanded compensation for from the taxpayers and were (rightfully) told to go pound sand.

        1. And yet pounding sand might actually be appropriate at a refinery site. Oh, well…

Watch for my next band, Sandpound.

    2. About a year or two ago my wife and I were watching a Quebec TV documentary about a hydroponic vegetable growing operation in Northern Ontario ( Sudbury or Timmins or Kirkland Lake) . My wife asked, “I wonder what the fertilizer is that in that water they’re pumping?”

“Two parts govetnment grants, one part subsidy, and one part forgiveable loan….and the end result will be a shrivelled, knobby cucumber to stick up our arses.”

  1. what utterly GALLS me *every time*, these subsidies, interest free loans, grants ,ALL come courtesy in a small or not so small part, from TAXES paid by *existing* firms who may ALREADY be engaged in a given line of business; they just SUBSIDIZED THEIR COMPETITOR.
    &%$^$*?!&?@#! f’ing GUBBAMINT

    1. Not a subsidy
      It’s a patronage
It’s the monarchy part of our constitutional monarchy
Who rules isn’t decided by the people it’s determined by “divine right” and who ya know.
It’s a nice club and we ain’t in it.

  2. Isn’t it amazing what a young feller can do in Canada… when the gubermint GIVES him millions of dollars for grow lights.

I wonder who’s paying the power bill?

  3. I wonder how many millions in taxdollars he’s siphoned from all levels of government over the years?
