  1. From yesterday’s Toronto Sun, Compas weighs in on Vote Compass:
    “‘Vote Compass’ — the controversial CBC online tool for determining which political party shares your views — gives the appearance of stronger support for the Liberals even though most people who participated plan to vote Conservative.
    “That’s the conclusion of a COMPAS Research poll that asked Canadians who took the online survey if the results matched their voting intentions.”

  2. Walter Brennan’s “Old Rivers” can almost make me tear up, that along with Gilbert O’Sullivan’s “Alone Again Naturally”. Frost’s “The Death of the Hired Man”, and Thomas’ “Do Not Go Gentle Into That Still Night”, as it makes me think of my father.
    That said, if Vancouver loses tonight, I will definitely weep Lachrymae Dolorosa.

  4. Bullying wouldn’t be such a problem at schools if teachers and the system didn’t model it so perfectly.
    Hayes, according to the letter, had repeatedly warned the child to be neater but on March 16 told him, “Your area looks like a pig sty. Oink. Oink.”
    Students in the classroom told authorities that Hayes told them to encircle the child “and call him a pig and make pig noises,” according to the reprimand.
    She got one day unpaid suspension for singling out a kindergarten boy for being messy and directing the other student to taunt and humiliate him…..

  17. Did I miss the posting for the French version of the debate?
    I listened and saw the Conservatives loose ground due to direct questions not being addressed.
    On the other hand, it was a bit amusing seeing all the questions came from Quebec.
    Is there not other French communities in Canada, like NB, NS or Manitoba, heck even Alberta?

  19. Kiewit Offshore Services told Marystown, government and union officials Friday the company was withdrawing from the running to be one of two “centre of excellence” shipbuilding yards, part of a $35-billion overhaul of Canadian maritime infrastructure.
    “The reason they’re making this decision we’re very pleased with; obviously they have a tremendous amount of work, they have a tremendous amount of opportunity in the province.” (Premier Cathy Dunderdale also said it was great that they were so busy, hint the Lower Churchill is a go and this other carrot will go somewhere else, NS, Quebec and BC.)
    …“What they said … is that they were sort of stretched with human resources trying to get a qualified bid team on the job. They’ve almost become too successful (haha), to some degree,” he said. “It’s a strange thing to say, but Kiewit is the major player now in Long Harbour, they’re going to be the prime contractor for the Hebron job, the (gravity-based structure) job. I’m sure they’re going to look at the Lower Churchill. So they’ve become probably the biggest single contractor in the province.”
    It gets better…
    “I was very disturbed. There’s no doubt that there’s a lot of work going on at the moment,” NDP Leader Lorraine Michael said. “But this really is short-term work, I mean, within a number of years that work is going to be finished.”
    Liberal Leader Yvonne Jones said if Kiewit is too busy with current work to devote itself fully to the bidding process, the government should fill the gap.
    “I think there’s a responsibility on behalf of the government to ensure that they have the proper resources and they have what they need to bring those contracts home to Newfoundlanders and Labradorians,” Jones said. “I think it’s great that Kiewit has had the success that they’ve had, but let’s build on that.”

    Mr. Nanos has the Conservatives at 49.3 per cent in the region compared to 35.6 per cent for the Liberals – this is outside of the margin of error of 9.6 percentage points. It also represents a slide of nearly five points in one day for the Liberals.

CAIR-CAN sent me a notice about the election debates and in their letter was this advice; “If you are still wondering about which party or political candidate may most closely mirror where you stand on the issues, you might wish to consult CBC’s new online tool at http://www.cbc.ca/votecompass keeping in mind that this is only a tool.”

    Well heck,if a fine democratic institution like CAIR-CAN endorses the Vote Compass,it must be fair.
