  2. Yesterday morning (Sunday March 27,2011) I was watching CBC (Sorry ’bout that)… about 9AM…
    A couple of nice lady reporters were chatting enthusiastically about the election and one mentioned Prime Minister Harper twice, and the other at least once…. Then one stopped and went quiet for a few seconds and said (quite enthusiastically) — “I have been referring to Mr. Harper as Prime Minister Stephen Harper and actually he is no longer the Prime Minster — so we will only be referring to him as Mr. Harper from now on.” Mr. Harper is no longer the Prime Minister of Canada…. The they explained how if the country went to war he would have to handle some duties and of course there might be certain other responsibilities but he could no longer table a budget or spend money that was not already approved.
    The show continued with them stumbling and retracting on the Mr. Harper/Primer Minster Stephen Harper for about 10 minutes more. Now I sat and watched — jaw dropped and wondering what was going on???? In the meantime they were also plugging their election coverage and then cam the George Stoumboulopouscoverage ad for his coverage that said he would instruct us as to which was the “best” candidate. He said we would be surprised as to which candidate was the best one.
    Would I be surprised? Well — if George recommended Stephen Harper as and MP and a Prime Minister — I guess I would be surprised. I guess I will just have to wait and see what he presents.
    Then…. (The moment of Drama)… They “re-ran” the explanation with this proviso…
    There are times when we should refer to Mr. Stephen Harper as the Prime Minister. When he is campaigning we should refer to him only as Mr. Stephen Harper. We hope that clarifies the issue.
    I am delighted to say that it clarifies the issue beautifully.
    It clarifies to me that this issue has probably never been raised before — at least that would explain the confusion. So why is it an issue now?
    Who is currently our Prime Minster. Could a constitutional expert research the matter and report back to the CBC? Perhaps that would end the confusion.
    Hopefully we can help them end this confusion.
    Should I take my election advice from the CBC? Can you help me with this decision?
    Hopefully I have explained this as well as I can as to what transpired…. I do wish I had the “tape/DVD” of the show.

  10. Ignatieff would raise business taxes for large corporations: Liberal MP
    TORONTO — Liberal MP John McCallum found himself on the defensive Monday afternoon trying to explain whether or not the Liberals would raise taxes.
    “We are rolling back corporate taxes, but the dollars that we obtain from that would be put into the pockets of middle class Canadians who will spend that money and that will create jobs,” he said.
    The corporate tax rate is 16.5% and the Liberals plan to raise it back to 18%.
    “That is an increase,” McCallum admitted. “We are rolling back the cut but we are using that money to put that money into the pockets of ordinary Canadians.”
    “We will roll back those corporate tax cuts that will give us approximately $6 billion a year, that’s a lot of money,” McCallum added.
    Later McCallum told Ignatieff’s chief of staff, Peter Donolo, he was “sorry” he had scrummed on the issue and veered slightly off message.

    “Lt.-Gen. Charles Bouchard, who was chosen on Friday to navigate NATO’s immensely complex air war against Moammar Gadhafi’s Libyan regime, is not the only Canadian officer getting an immensely challenging international command.
    It is expected that a Canadian Army general will soon be named to a big UN peacekeeping posting in the Middle East.
    These two developments follow by a few weeks the announcement that Maj.-Gen. Mike Day is to take over responsibility for training the Afghan army for NATO. Day joins Maj.-Gen. Stu Beare, who will run Afghan police training for the alliance until he takes up a senior appointment in Ottawa this fall.
    The appointments of Bouchard, Day and the infantry officer expected to be given a UN command are the latest in a blitz of important overseas postings that have been nabbed by Canadians. Day’s assistant in Kabul is to be Brig.-Gen. Kelly Woiden while Brig.-Gen. Karl McQuillan is to be based in eastern Afghanistan, where the war for the alliance is being almost entirely prosecuted by U.S. forces.
    Another is Brig.-Gen. Andre Corbould, NATO’s director of future operations in Kandahar, who will be the last Canadian to serve in a combat position when he finally returns from Kandahar this fall.
    Brig.-Gen. Christine Whitecross is another Canadian currently in a NATO billet in Afghanistan. An air force engineer, Whitecross serves as the International Security Assistance Force’s deputy commander for strategic communications.
    The other Canadian female flag officer, Brig.-Gen. Hilary Jaeger, was ISAF’s top doctor in Afghanistan until last fall.”
