    GE doesn’t.

    GE is investing $6 billion to develop new medical products and technologies, and is making big bets on green technologies, from fuel-efficient turbines to “thin film” solar panels.
    Windmills will be a great return on investment. Those “green” investments are largely in technologies that cannot compete on the merits with more efficient sources of energy like fossil fuels, so GE is lobbying on behalf of cap and trade legislation, which will make its own investments more profitable by hobbling its more efficient competition.
    2010 was a good year for GE. The New York Times reported that the company earned over $14 billion in 2010, $5.1 billion from its U.S. operations. (The tens of billions GE has received from the federal government in bailout guarantees were obviously a big help.)
    Yet GE paid no federal income taxes in 2010. On the contrary, it claimed a $3.2 billion “tax benefit.”

  11. SASKATOON SPEAKS, 700,000 dollars of taxpayer money for what? This has to be one of the biggest waste of time and money I have ever heard of. Will the people of Saskatoon have some balls and say enough is enough? The residential streets are full of ice and ruts. The city pavement is crumbling below our feet. City council spends taxpayer money, about 3 million dollars on LOW INCOME HOUSING. And last buy not least, Murry Totland is given a 15% wage increase. I can’t afford Atchison and Council at 4% tax increases per year. If the voters in Saskatoon had half a brain we would toss out Don, fire Totland and start over.

It’s Newfoundland fer fracks sake, that’s what we do, we looks after our own youngsters and our relatives’ youngsters. It’s our culture. Iggy trying to say our culture is lesser.   29. I’ve said it before, I don’t care that Iggy panders. He’s a politician, it’s one of the horrible things they do. What fascinates me is that he panders so badly that I am forced to conclude that a)he is the least talented politician ever, worse than Justine, even, or b)his subconscious is trying to thwart him.

  31. Ken, I don’t agree with her latter comments that men & women can’t be friends but all of what she says earlier hit strong chords with me. However, if you or I were ever to say such things, we’d be slapped down in no time!!

    A. A fart?
    B. A “member” of Parliament ready to give it to the rest of Canada?

    “Nick Cohen of the Spectator reminds us that “This is no small accusation in Pakistan where Islamist death squads and their collaborators in the state intelligence service, operate at will.”
    The cleric also said of Malik:
    If she does not have pangs of conscience because of what she did, then I would tell her to awaken her conscience. No one in Pakistan can look at her pictures in the presence of their daughters. I don‘t think that her son will like to look at his mother’s picture in the future, in her presence or in the presence of his father or brother.
    Malik‘s measured and courageous response turned the cleric’s admonitions to dust. Among many other things, Malik told him, basically, to buzz off: “There are many other things for you to deal with. There are Islamic clerics who rape the children they teach in their mosques, and so much more.””

    “The first poll since Saturday’s election call shows Tory support largely unchanged, calling into question the opposition’s early emphasis on ethics.
    Despite a weekend of being hammered for their alleged contempt of Parliament, the Conservatives boast the support of 41 per cent of decided voters — 17 points ahead of the Liberals, who are at 24 per cent. The NDP is at 19 per cent, and the Bloc 10 per cent.
    The Forum Research poll also breaks it down by seat count, suggesting that if the election were held today, the Tories would surge from 143 seats to 162 seats, the Liberals would drop 17 seats to 61, the Bloc would rise from 44 to 51, and the NDP would be whittled from 36 seats to 34. The poll, conducted over the weekend via telephone with a random sample of 2,095 voters, is within the range of approximately plus or minus 10 seats for each party.
    “After two days of talking about contempt, it’s clear that there’s not a lot of interest in the issue,” said Lorne Bozinoff, president of Forum Research, Canada’s largest survey firm. “I think that’s going to cause a lot problems for the opposition parties.”
    When voters were asked which was more important, the economy and job creation or ethics in government, 62 per cent cited the economy, while only 38 per cent said ethics was chief on their electoral radar.”

  39. I like how the LIBS/NDP/Bloc say that coalitions are normal in Westminister Parliaments. Yet they cannot show one example of a coalition which includes SEPARATISTS in the model from anywhere in the world. Even more important why did the Coalition Partners deny voters in Ontario, Alberta and BC the basics of Democracy of one man/woman one vote when they scuddled Bill C12 last year to give equal representation, yet now have the gall to say that a Separatist Coalition is Democratic.   41. Am I the oldest guy on the thread? Growing up a “bulldozer driver” was called a “skinner”. As in my Grampa was a mule skinner my Pa was a cat skinner.

    In fact I sent it to all of my daughters except the NDP one (too much socialist exposure in University of Manitoba). We all have a cross to bear somewhere in our families. Sigh!
