The Tolerant Left

From an Undisclosed Motel 6 in Illinois;

It’s been my job to coach our brave renegades on how best to stick it to the Man, to present their most reasonable, more-in-sorrow, woeful countenances to the television cameras while our public-employee-union supporters contort their faces in purple rage back home in Madison and Topeka and Bismarck, or whatever those other state capitals are called.
In other words, it’s the perfect leftist two-step in the Age of Obama: Say one thing, do the exact opposite. Pretend to be reasonable and then sucker-punch your opponent. Preach civility (come on — you knew that was a joke, right?) and break out the Hitler mustaches. Swear to faithfully execute the laws of the United States and then pull the rug out from under the Defense of Marriage Act. Genius!
As I’ve explained elsewhere, it’s all a part of our allegiance to a Higher Power — which is ourselves and our own base appetites. You Judeo-Christian creeps often accuse us of having no moral center, no guiding philosophy, no soaring, overarching ethos, but that’s a dirty lie. Of course we do, and here it is:
By any means necessary.

Yeah the reason you have ridiculous ROE is because the Viet Cong hides amongst the civilian populace. Same reason the ROE are strangling troops in Afghanistan and Iraq. We can abandon them and just kill everyone with nerve gas if that’ll make you happy. I’m totally cool with that. I don’t really know what you want.
I bring up the draft dodgers and blame them because you know what’s a really awesome way of not getting sent to Vietnam? Aside from fleeing to Canada? You join a Ph.D program. Now conservatives complain about the “elite” in academia well where the heck did they come from?
What I’m saying is that prior to the hippie generation there was still a somewhat traditional sense of family. It was the flower children of the 60s that said oh we really don’t need those rules. They then became the greatest modern “thinkers” and champions of the godless morally laisse-faire society that RHTT bemoans.
Trudeau may not have been a boomer but are you forgetting all those bats**t crazy kids who were swept up in Trudeaumania? When was he elected? oh yes the early 1950s right? Surely not some random year like 1968 when the boomers could cast their first ballot or anything.
If you really want to go into social security might I bring up someone boomers did vote for? LBJ. Whose presidential legacy was the great society. A massive expansion of social security and welfare entitlements.
Also the joke’s on you because being a bigot is awesome.

  2. this Kahane is FONNY….best send up satire in a long while…
….and the little guy in the video!!!!…the cherry on top baby!

  3. Soccermom stole my thunder … he absolutely would fit in perfectly in any NDP campaign rally.
Isn’t amazing how thugs like this never seen to make it to the MSM?! Kind of wrecks the Kumbaya narrative, eh!

  4. I just love it when we get these bofo Rosie O’Donnell, Hedy Fry, Maude Barlowe, Judy Rebbick, Lizzy May, Michael Moore, ‘Featured Jerk-off’ types as focal points for the leftard cause. I mean, attack ads couldn’t be more effective!
And what do we have to counter?
Ummm, just the likes of Ann Coulter, Sarah Palin, Kathy Shaidle, Kate McMillan, …
    Boo yah!

  5. We’ll just cut social security and medicaid benefits. After that the Tea Party will disappear into the mist. – M
M – With full respect, I believe you misread the Tea Party. This is a leaderless movement of citizens who wish a return to the Republic outlined by the framers of the Constitution; possessing a government of limited, and well-defined powers. The Tea Party is not simply concerned with deficit spending, and there has been no indication that ” cutting Social Security and Medicaid ” is what motivates them.
The Tea Parties emerged as a grass roots response to Obama’s explosion of government control over the lives of the American people, as witnessed by his centerpiece legislation Obamacare, which offers the typical American family the choice of paying the $15k yearly premium ( CBO estimate ) , or face criminal penalties.

  6. The question is, did the union make the man, or the man make the union?
Seems all this union member can think about is fighting. Who put the idea in his head that he has the right to respond with violence – about a union dispute? Seems like a worldwide phenomenon – look at the Athens riots that killed an innoncent woman.

  7. @ small c
Yeah I understand that the tea party is rather amorphous but the US is in some potential financial difficulties. They might seriously have to both raise taxes and cut entitlements to get their debt/GDP down. Plus their military is bankrupting them since they’re essentially subsidizing the military expenditures of almost every other country in the world. It’s something to say no Obamacare and the backhanded way it was put through since it’s not even implemented yet but when the average joe is facing clawbacks to old age payments or unemployment it will be interesting to see how they respond. Will they say “it’s a price i’m willing to pay?” Or will you see Greek style social unrest?

  8. Well, the thievery on Wall Street continues unabated. Wells Fargo CFO resigned last week, the financial mess is headed for round two. The response to date, is attack the working class, where will it end if things get a whole lot worse? Will anyone with assets, be next on the chopping block?

  9. “Yeah the reason you have ridiculous ROE is because the Viet Cong hides amongst the civilian populace.”
    ~m
Oh, is that why they didn’t bomb Hanoi or permit the pursuit of North Vietnamese ground or air forces across the DMZ, because the Vietcong were hiding among the civilian population.
    Sure.
You don’t know shiite from shinola about the Indochina Wars.
“Same reason the ROE are strangling troops in Afghanistan and Iraq. We can abandon them and just kill everyone with nerve gas if that’ll make you happy. I’m totally cool with that. I don’t really know what you want.”
    ~m
Totally irrelevant to your slagging on the Baby Boomer generation.
What’s your problem, are you drunk?
“I bring up the draft dodgers and blame them because you know what’s a really awesome way of not getting sent to Vietnam? Aside from fleeing to Canada? You join a Ph.D program. Now conservatives complain about the “elite” in academia well where the heck did they come from?”
    ~m
    Irrelevant.
There was no draft in WWII until the end, but there were the exact same deferments available to the “Greatest Generation”.
Most WWII draftees never saw action.
There was, however, a draft from the very beginning of the Vietnam War.
“What I’m saying is that prior to the hippie generation there was still a somewhat traditional sense of family. It was the flower children of the 60s that said oh we really don’t need those rules. ~m
That same sort of thing happened right at the end of WWII.
Ever heard of the Beatniks, almost the same as the Hippies except they were the “Greatest Generation” ?
You really need to pick up a history book or two.
Ignorant bigotry is no substitute for the facts.
“Trudeau may not have been a boomer but are you forgetting all those bats**t crazy kids who were swept up in Trudeaumania? When was he elected? oh yes the early 1950s right? Surely not some random year like 1968 when the boomers could cast their first ballot or anything.”
    ~m
While it’s true that the Boomers could have cast their first ballot in ’68, like most generations of young people, they weren’t interested in politics.
The Boomer generation was still in the minority at that time, most of the voters who elected Trudeau were from older generations like my parents, both born in 1922, who were practically worshippers of Pierre Trudeau
    I ‘m a Boomer, I was 9 years old.
“If you really want to go into social security might I bring up someone boomers did vote for? LBJ. Whose presidential legacy was the great society. A massive expansion of social security and welfare entitlements.”
    ~m
Same with LBJ as with Trudeau, only a couple of years earlier.
Boomers voters were still in the minority then.
Do you even know the period of time that the Boomer generation spans.
Find out, sit down, and do the arithmetic.
“Also the joke’s on you because being a bigot is awesome.”
    ~M
You’re so full of yourself you must weigh a ton.
    What a fool you are.

What in the bloody hell are you talking about? First you’re the one who brought up ROE in Vietnam. Every American government from Kennedy to Nixon have basically the same objectives for South Vietnam that we have for Iraq and Afghanistan. That the local government remain secure and fend off its own problems. The operations in South Vietnam were viewed largely as a counter-insurgency operation.
They also did not pursue NVA forces because they were still uneasy over the Korean War and the possible involvement of China. Whether or not that was the right decision and they should have invaded the North/Laos/Cambodia is a different story. They were also acutely aware of the anti-war activists at home and what firebombing Hanoi might mean. Who was responsible for that again?
The discussion of the intelligentsia is not irrelevant, though I’m so pleased you so quickly dismissed it. The desire to avoid the draft pushed a lot of ideologues into the positions they occupy today continually advancing their leftist tripe. Who have effectively changed much of the academic tone and debate by their activism. It is much different than what occurred during the Second World War. Where do you think all these educational fads, victimization grievances and politically correct newspeak comes from?
With regards to LBJ and Trudeau, Obama didn’t win SOLELY by a tide of young people overwhelming all others but they are a significant constituency. Should we chalk him under the boomers too? It’s not my fault you were born in the middle of the boom but you were tough.
If you want to attribute the roots of socialism in society to your parent’s generation fine. If we want to talk about the exacerbation of socialism in society then I sure as hell can’t blame them. Say what you want but at least they had the foresight/dumb luck to have children in sufficient numbers to pay for their entitlements. Which is what we were talking about in the first damn place.
I wasn’t so much into assigning blame if you bothered to read my first post it was mostly to respond to really ridiculous remarks. That said, are left-wing academics responsible for framing our societal debates/policies and steering them leftwards? Yes. Are they boomers? Yes. That much should be self evident. I don’t give a damn where or when it started or how far you want to trace it back. They’re the problem now. We could blame Rousseau for our self esteem/emotions cult and absolve everyone of their culpability where does that get you? Are boomers going to tank the United States budgets when it comes time for their payments? Yes. May we be allowed to take umbrage at that fact? Well why the hell not?

  11. “What in the bloody hell are you talking about? First you’re the one who brought up ROE in Vietnam”
    ~m
Iraq and Afghanistan have nothing to do with the Boomer generation.
Bringing up the ROE comparing WWII and Vietnam has to do with why Boomers were draft dodgers, dimwit.
You blame my generation for things my generation shouldn’t be blamed for and you’re an idiot for doing so.
You don’t know shit about the history of social change and you think you know enough to lay blame.
    You are wrong.
“Say what you want but at least they had the foresight/dumb luck to have children in sufficient numbers to pay for their entitlements. Which is what we were talking about in the first damn place.”
    ~m
Crediting the “Greatest Generation” for dumb luck having babies while giving them a pass on creating a socialist society and then blaming the inevitable failure of that socialist society on the next generation is immoral.
Those entitlements would have failed regardless of the number of children the Boomer generation had because socialism doesn’t work.
Socialism contains the seeds of it’s own destruction.
You are a sick twist, m.

  12. The hippie generation changed the entire society. All the new-age so called progressive ideas came from draft-dodging boomers who decided to entrench themselves in academia. Pretty much all the liberal crap that everyone here rails about on this blog is from those people.
    ~M
That’s you laying all the blame on my generation, dirtbag.
    You own it.

  13. Oz
Is it right or wrong to dodge a draft? I don’t know I don’t care and extraneous to my point.
Is it what motivated these people join academia? Yes.
Did the baby boom generation prompt societal change? Yes.
Do these professors start self esteem/victimhood cults, AGW theories, political correctness? Yes.
Do we complain about that here every day? Yes.
None of what I said was blame or lies. It is what it is. The perniciousness of the ideology that we live with today was not enacted by your fathers. Unless you literally have no agency don’t cry to me about moral hazard.
This goes all the way back to the IH’s original point that the prosperity that the boomer generation had is built on the austerity of the generations to come. So when RHTT accuses this generation of goosestepping grandma to Auschwitz because we’re godless hooligans yeah, I have a problem with that. When ed whines about generational sour grapes and hypocritically agreeing with an absurd analogy. Yeah I have a problem with that.
What did I say about that? I said we’d probably just have to claw back social security and medicare. It’s not vindictive and it’s not personal get over it.

  14. If I can be so presumptuois as to bring this back On Topic….
Yeah the subject projects and aura of ignorance and studity….perhaps insanity….
The most obvious thing I detacted was simple DESPERATION…….despite this loons poor attempt at rightious indignation….desperation is what is projected….in his heart of hearts, he accutely knows he and his agenda are lost.

  15. Poor M:
Some advice for you son, don’t bring a fart to a shit fight.
You are clueless. You education or lack of it has failed you.
    Sasquatch, you nailed it.

  16. My apologies M, I didn’t mean to hurt your feelings, either one of them.
Until you learn to not conflate your opinions with facts, your arguments have no merit.
Please go away and educate yourself. Once you’ve done that, then you can come back and we’ll have a real discussion.

  17. Okay Oz & Ed Ellison
I could actually go on a “rant” reading your comments towards me, but I won’t because this isn’t ‘Jersey Shore’. If you can put aside being ‘offended’ for a few moments we could actually discuss RHTT’s comments and my thoughts on it.
I trust you both can do that, so I’ll quickly rebut a few of your comments.
First, I’m from Alberta Oz, and you know damn well that I agree with you on transfer payments and other Federal methods of transferring wealth from the west; but, these issues are besides the point being discussed.
Secondly, we are discussing a broad subject (voting demographics and generations) so people are necessarily “painted with a broad brush” for conversations sake. I’m sick and tired of having to put a disclaimer like “not all women, or Muslims, or public sector workers, or teachers, or boomers,” and so on and so on. Your personal evidence is anecdotal and is not relevant to the broader discussion.
Third, and most importantly, I’m going to elaborate on my accusation of generational hypocrisy by the Boomer generation. As far as I can tell, it’s okay for all of us to laugh, and snicker at the misfortune of those that have spent considerable money on Solar panels on the false promise the government will reimburse them; and, it’s fair game to criticize that person when they feel they’ve done their part and to hell with the budget, practicality or the market. But, when those same critics themselves have been HAD by a much bigger and devious ponzi scheme (Cpp for example), some of them claim “I’ve paid my share” and to hell with the budget, practicality, the market or the future. This is the same as the Medi-cade example I mentioned before of the Tea Partiers that are now voting GOP to save their entitlements.
We’ve all been “HAD” Oz; the question is will your generation accept this, or will they try and keep the ponzi gravy train going just a bit longer, or if those younger generations devise a way to make the train stop.
Fourth, criticism of my generation and other generations is expected; but in this case, THIS discussion is specifically about the Boomers, and their futures (economically and politically). I don’t claim my generation better or worse than any other, but our ‘issues’ for the most part are different than those of the Boomers, and should and will be addressed at the appropriate time(perhaps another thread). You guys can call names, and stomp your feet, but these issues are real and will be addressed.
Finally, understand that I don’t support the Left and their ‘ageism’ tactic; but, I recognize it as a legitimate issue that will be dealt with as RHTT tries to point out. Speaking from a purely political point of view, a ‘political correction’(similar to a market correction) will be necessary to recessitate the true conservative ideals that RHTT alludes to. Politically speaking, as Boomers become more dependent on the State they will become political dead-weight for conservatives that have balanced budgets, and smaller government in mind. Disagree if you will, but please spare me the accusations of “bigotry” and “idiocy”, because my thoughts on this are well thought-out, not a “rant”, and completely valid.

  18. And now that I think of it, it’s you(Oz) and Ed who have “generational envy”, because you’re upset that I might suggest thet you WON’T GET THE BENEFITS YOUR PARENTS RECEIVED THAT YOU”VE BEEN PAYING FOR! And, they caused socialism and all that stuff which you (Oz) apparently blame the ‘Greatest Generation’ for. Funny, I don’t hear ANYONE but Boomers claiming that Boomers are “great” hmmm?

  19. M:
You really should just accept the fact that Oz handed you your ass on a plate. Your points and arguements made no sense and were wrong. Back peddling now to save face is pointless.
Rule one on any blog is to educate yourself so you don’t make a fool of yourself when confronted with someone who actually knows what they are talking about.
    IH:
    Nice try Homie.
