  1. “i’m keeping a stash of normal bulbs”.
Don’t you know the government can tell what wattage you are using in your house and thereby know you are using illegal bulbs?
Scary scenario, but might become true one day. Remember the British and their satellite dish mounted trucks driving around seeing who was illegally watching BBC1 or BBC2?

Are incandescents going to be illegal to use?
I thought the legislation only covered sale and importation, not use.

  3. I am with those suggesting that all burnt-out and broken bulbs be dumped on Parliament, since they are responsible for passing this insane legislation. I have no patience with the supporters of these bulbs now, and more so later, crying about the dangerous pollution caused by what they sought to impose on us.

  4. When I first heard of CFL bulbs I bought some from Home Depot. my financial conservative thinking being that they would reduce my power consumption. Not only did my power bill go down significantly I found that the bulbs I bought lasted much much longer. The ones I have in the bathroom wall fixture are over 12 years old and still going strong. The ones in the ceiling fixtures in the bedrooms are about 12 years old as well. The ones in the living room are in floor and table lamps. One bulb in a table lamp burned out two years after it was put in but its replacement has been in use for about 7 years. When these burn out I expect to go to LEDs as I believe LEDs are a superior product. Of course in the mean time if another product comes on the market that is superior to LEDs….

  6. Peter, environmental damage doesn’t count inside a developing socialist nation.
    As for us:
“Ay, or more than we should seek after, for we know enough if we know we are the king’s subjects. If his cause be wrong, our obedience to the king wipes the crime of it out of us.”
“But if the cause be not good, the king himself hath a heavy reckoning to make.”

  7. Leds are not the solution either, I use them to grow plants so I know at least something 1st hand with them. They are energy efficient, they can only emit light in a specific wave length. The blue Leds are known to cause cancer. These lights are simply not healthy for you for that reason. Anything over 1 watt the efficiency drops like crazy so to get a 60 watt bulb you need to gang up 60 1 watt leds. That is not as simple as it sounds heat electronics ect.Out of all the new technologies (invented a long time ago) Plasma lighting has the most promise. It is similar to a florescent light but lasts almost forever, and has a wide spectrum.

  8. I have been stocking up on Incandescent bulbs for the last 2 years. I buy out the shelves of what they have on at Home Depot every month. I would say that I have approx 4,000 incadescents in my garage. After 2012 I figure that I will be able to triple or quadruple my investment by selling them on line at Kijiji and at garage sales. This is a better investment than gold or the stock market right now
