    All well and good, except that his freestyle was so powerful because it was honest — B-Rabbit does in fact live in a trailer with his mom, his friend did in fact f— his girl, etc.
    You can’t “take absolute possession of your personal negatives” until you actually admit to yourselves what they are. Somehow I don’t see conservatives — or any other ideologically motivated, politically partisan collective, for that matter — being so self-reflective and forthcoming about their past and present failings and weaknesses. Not everyone can be like B-Rabbit.
    Or maybe I’m wrong. Maybe SDA should lead by example. As a first step to disarming the “left,” perhaps everyone here could share with the rest of the class what they consider the “personal negatives” of themselves and their fellow conservatives.
    (Oh, by the way, your illustrative example seems to imply that, just as Papa Doc’s intended slurs against B-Rabbit were based on the reality of the latter’s life, the left’s “slurs” against conservatives also have kernals of truth to them. Perhaps that was not your intent?)

  2. Absolutely that was my intent. Furthermore, it hardly matters if the slurs are factual or not. It only matters that they remain effective as weapons through the sheer act of acknowledging and denying them.

    3. Slur, Conservatives don’t care about the environment!!! Kernel, Conservatives think Global Warming is a scam, we would prefer to focus on reducing pollutants that actually -pollute- something.
    4. Slur, Conservatives hate the poor! Kernel, Conservatives hate welfare because it destroys people.
    5. Slur, Conservatives are Nazis! Kernel, the Nazis were -socialists-.
    6. Slur, Conservatives are a bunch of beer swilling, popcorn eating, gun toting, pickup truck driving white people. Kernel, what’s your point?
    How am I doing so far?
    Conversely, when I say that your average Lefty would think nothing of retaliating against a Phantom family member for something The Phantom posted on a blog, that’s not a slur. That’s a description.

  17. When the left outumber the right by 2 to 1 and the right can still govern (and mostly well)I’d say they’re doing a pretty fair job. Just remember that in a democracy like ours only one team gets the keys to the car at a time. As the PM keeps pointing out, the other team is going to be far worse than even Trudeau. Just remember that as the Conservative team zips around in our “national wheels” sometimes they are forced to take detours to satisfy the the crowd of lefties they are forced to travel with. If we lose what we’ve got now, and the lefties get the keys, I don’t think they’ll be making many stops for us. For those who wish to percipitate a crisis that may be cool, for those of us with young families…not so cool. Always remember, a half a loaf of bread beats going hugry.

    I’m onside with 99.9% of what The Phantom (and you yourself) says here.
    It’s just that bringing up certain slurs that your opponent didn’t — We are not Nazis — is being utterly defensive and doing what Mistress Kate teaches us not to do!

    Bad. The public heard this as I AM a crook.
    Sadly, he wasn’t really much of a crook as politicans go.
    In sales, you don’t bring up possible objections a customer might bring up. You handle ONLY the objection he/she raises AND you don’t go on about it. And you question more than you talk!
    I might be naive, but Davenport actually strikes me more as an old-style liberal, not a troll, a person you can actually engage with. He/she has brought up some good points here: recently, that conservatives weren’t much bothered by Big Government-Big Bank collusion during the Bush years and when the bull raged.
    I’d like to see less shouting and more questioning along Socratic lines, like when Breibart recently strolled over to some placard-waving protestors and just asked them questions, which they couldn’t answer and which made them look like zombie fools.
    And old (former) friend — who I always saw as a liberal democrat but who morphed into a hard left green-commie antisemite once told me, “Israel doesn’t have a right to exist”. I learned that it was pointless to push into a long spiel on the history of the conflict and just asked him, “Jim, can you think of any other countries in he world which don’t have a right to exist?”. End of discussion. I win. He’s an anti-semite. Case closed.

  20. Me No Dhimmi – I don’t think Davenport’s a troll. She’s intelligent and often well informed; Agressively wrong about everything, but still I like her, inasmuch as I want to keep her around because debate with the non-retarded is good. I mean, she’s a fine substitute for T.
    re. Phantom’s “Nazi” thing: The implication that being right of centre is somehow placing yourself on a continuum towrads Dachau is just stupid, among other things; we understand that; but narratives matter. Nazi = NSDAP = Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei = National Socialist German Workers’ Party. We need to bring this up every time it comes up until they’re embarassed to bring it up. Because it’s true.
    Put them on the defensive: “Racist? If you mean do I hate Affirmative Action, if that’s how you define ‘Racist’, well….”
    “Homophobic? Do you mean that I don’t consider perfectly legal (as it should be) same-sex action the social and psychological equivalent to procreative marriage? Okay…”
    We’re in the right, so they can’t harm us very much.

    I think about this topic all the time, it’s the only reason, I got the answer. We have to stop “selling” conservatism. We need to be unapologetically Conservative.
    Our movement and our past has flaws. To use Angle’s put down of Reid, “We need to man up!” So for conservatives that means admitting guys like me supported Bush and he turned around and spent money like a drunken sailor. We only supported him because the other option was Gore. Then go on the attack. We admitted our mistake, now Mr. Canadian Liberal, didn’t I see you at that 2008 presidential election party at HQ celebrating Obama’s win? How you feeling about that now?
    There is a local opposition MP, who is a thorn in the side of the government. He throws down slurs and lies. He just settled out of court with a former CPC staffer for a defamation of character lawsuit. He hits out at the party and supporters. He is a loudmouth who annoys every conservative in the country. The Leftist Media love him. He also abandoned his wife and kids and shacked up with a university student prior to the last election.
    Being called names by this guy? Bring it on.
    I know his CPC opponent is going to spend half his time denying being an environmental villain, Big Business loving, homophobic, gun-toting racist redneck and never touch this slimeball. If only the Phantom was runing against him. Sigh.

    The appropriate comeback is-“The KKK were Democrat supporters…you are a Democrat supporter.
    If you want their heads to explode you could add that Abraham Lincoln was a Republican and so was Dr. Martin Luther King jr.

  27. Well, yes, Oz, that’s all correct and those responses are accurate and effective, and I’ve used them often myself … but, but Davenport didn’t accuse anyone of being a Nazi. That’s all I was trying to say.
