It’s highly ironic that feminists choose to objectify women. Camille Paglia is the rare member of that sisterhood; she’s thoughtful and delves into substantial issues other female liberals won’t touch. I picked up a Ms. magazine once and was shocked by Gloria Steinem’s apparent hatred of men. People intensely involved in causes may end up warped.
BTW, I read that it was Jerry Brown’s WIFE who called Meg Whitman a “whore.” (I was surprised, because I’d always thought he’d joined a monastery after splitting with Linda Ronstadt:)

Thanks Kate, it brings many arguments up from the past and one in particular comes to mind.
It was a proud moment in my life when I had the opportunity to debate some of my native friends in front of my Social Studies class during high school. The looks on their faces when I told them that as a person of Mennonite back ground, our land was taken, our “kind” was killed and persecuted and we relocated without any help. We didn’t expect anything, we didn’t demand anything and we prospered once again. We assimilated into our newly found culture.
If anyone believes that oppression can be defined by race and gender, they are sorely mistaken.

Hmmmm. I suppose the lesson is that if all they have left are slurs, then it’s time to claim victory and walk away.
If we take the AGW thing as an example, though, it just isn’t true. All the facts in the world haven’t stopped them or the media and the politicians haven’t dared to deviate from the mantra. I suppose that’s where we need to take our next step – to the politicians due this spring (for the feds, that is). I’d like to see it and the Section 13 thing be the only thing they hear about when they come knocking at the door. Well, maybe a few other things, too, like dismantling the CBC, and judicial activism, and creeping Sharia, and……

Dirty politics (going for the personal jugular) indicate a lack of solid values. Take a principled stand and stick with it.
I don’t remember the exact quote or the source but I read this once. “Once an organization reaches a certain size, the organization’s first priority becomes preservation of the organization.” Whatever priciples an organization was founded on become secondary to that preservation. I think that is why an organization like NOW can demonize conservative women or not make an issue of the horrible treatment women receive in Muslim countries. They see their survival tied to the Left and anything against the Left, even women, are the enemy.
They’re powerful pieces of attack propaganda if you run away and hide from them. If instead, we stand up, embrace the labels, acknowledge what little truth there is in the slurs, we render the slurs powerless. You take away their only argument. THEN. You go on the ATTACK.
Conservatives have let Liberals make the rules and then tried to follow them. They miss the point, the rules are only there for Conservatives to follow. Liberals are going to break their own protocols for the pursuit of power. The rules are for the “little people”.
By way of example, the Leftist Media have frequently knocked Stephen Harper for being past president of the National Citizens Coalition. He has run away from his own past. That was a foolish decision. If he had embraced that fact of his life, was proud of it and repeated it often 10 years, then right now every Canadian would believe without a doubt that he would 1. cut government waste everywhere he could find it. 2. stand up for personal liberty 3. lower taxes. Instead, even conservatives have their doubts about all 3.

When they run out of slurs they will then turn to violence.
When there is nothing left but slurs… you always have your convictions to fall back on, right? The convictions that are the foundations of the offering you take to the electorate… because you are motivated more by the prospects of seeing those convictions shape society than enjoying the political power.
If you are more motivated by the prospect of power, rather than conviction-based leadership, then you care very much how your offering is packaged, and therefore you care how your image is shaped, therefore you care about the image shapers.
If you grant the traditional image shapers the power they like to use to marginalize if they don’t like your flavor, then in the electorate’s mind, your convictions are like jello nailed to a wall – you do not stand behind your brand, so what does it matter – your image becomes what is important.
Beneath it all is the conviction – both in your own message, and the ability of the electorate to grasp the logic of your message, rather than the emotion of your image. The power granted to the media by politicians of all stripes hinges on this core belief.
Fortunately, that portion of the population that is enthralled by image is probably too damn lazy to get out and vote.
So, hold fast to your true convictions, and find every channel to communicate those convictions to the electorate. And treat the media like the buffoons they truly are.
