  1. I guess that means more traffic down here to Estevan once it closes. I actually kind of hope that the Estevan Walmart unionizes to help justify more trips to Minot to save even more money.

  2. I just said the same thing last night..Goodbye Walmart….it’s time the union movement in Saskatchewan was sent a strong message…..”mess with the bull and you get the horn!”…or “don’t kill the goose that lays the golden eggs”…..or just “don’t mess with Walmart” they will shut that place down so fast it’ll make their “collective” heads spin. I imagine that dufus Larry Hubich is rubbing his hands together thinking that Walmart wouldn’t dare do such a thing….I believe he can bend over and kiss his ass goodbye. I hope Walmart drags this out as long as they can and then shuts it down if they can’t get this overturned. The new motto for the Saskatchewan Federation of Labour……”I’ll show you, I’ll kill me”

  3. I was so happy when Wal-Mart didn’t buckle to the union, and closed their Jonquiere store. I’ll bet all those employees were left there, standing with their union cards in hand thinking, “WTF?”

  4. The stranded Jonquiere workers started demanding that the government force Wal-Mart to reopen; that’s how a workers paradise thinks.

  5. I remember when Wal-Mart employees were openly rude to a relative of mine. Imagine making fun of a senior citizen because she had the “audacity” to inquire about a product not made in China. Is the customer always right? Is it not bad form to openly humiliate someone and call them names?
    Wal-Mart employees, stick it.

  6. I highly recommend watching Penn and Teller’s show on Wal-Mart. It shows how the Unions are begging for the billions of dollars of dues that would be coming their way if unionized. Plus, it shows how Wal-Marts are actually good for the community and economy!!

  7. In other words, Walmart treats its employees as if they are already unionized in order to keep the union(s)out. Why is that? Just all around nice folks or could there be something else? Pendulums swing and times change and maybe we’ve outgrown the need to unionize but much of what created a middle class, gives people a few holidays and keeps our children out of the mines was made possible by workers organizing and risking their necks to achieve improvements that many here seem to take for granted.
Then again, it’s not like the Weymart is sitting on a billion dollars worth of coal or other valuable commodity? What can the employees threaten the company with? Shutting down the store? Here, we’ll do it for you.
Anyway, the problem now, as I see it, is not unions per se but as in a lot of things it’s … “BIG” UNION. The use of the proper adjective, can be quite clarifying.

  8. I left my union job two years ago during
which time I have seen my yearly wage
increase 50 percent. Big unions are all
about collecting dues to fund pet political
projects. Just sign the union card and
forfeit your right to negotiate on your own
    behalf.

  9. They will close the store….it just takes time..by…by..75 plus jobs…the union spends all of its time defending people that should be gone….been there done that and moved on..after that only non union..and I was always employed and good money..at least I was happy..

  10. Sorry to hear the people lost their jobs at Wal*Mart. I’ve always said that Wal*Mart has done a hundred times more for the poor than any union, ever…

  11. I think common sense will prevail It does, most of the time. By then socialism (as most “isms”) isn’t based on common sense!

  12. Ken E- Thats what I hated about the union to – 3 deadbeats on my crew made my job that much harder- never again

  13. At the Walmart in North Battleford the union missionaries took my niece out several times to convince [coerce] her to sign a card. She finally signed the card out of fear and then quit saying I hope they all lose their jobs.
I would like to know how much it cost the union so far to battle Walmart?
Rather than ask the private sector and taxpayers to ante up for a new stadium in Regina maybe the unions could pay for it and build it with union labor of course. or we could bring in chinese workers who built the Olympic facilities in Beijing for half price.
Unions are parasites feeding on the lazy and incompetent pretend workers and can’t stand the word profit.
It seems as though some health care people are making a tidy profit and the unions say if we put more money into health care it will be fixed,
The private clinic workers make 15% less than the unionized not for profit ones before benefits and 35% less after benefits.
How much do unions contribute to GDP? 000

  14. Has my new i-mac gone south on me? I see nothing but a pic of a map tac and a headline that says Hey, Weyburn.

  15. @ Gord
Don’t bother calling on Brad Wall to enforce any policy. He’s done very little except pay lip service to creating a fair and level playing field for us in the ewaste recycling industry, can’t see how he’s give a rip about a few free market Walmart jobs.

  16. Darcy: mr. Wall should still be pressed about it.
Things are about to get a lot more competitive with AB for labour as the oil and gas sector begins to boom again (perhaps even more epically than it has in the past if that’s even possible). The wild rose alliance has as right to work as a policy plank. Should they get elected, such labour deregulation would see a flood of work and workers into Alberta. Saskatchewan cold miss a huge opportunity if they do not act in kind or even better pre-emptively.
