  4. I bought ‘The Black Phone’ from Amazon a few days ago. It was a nice ‘horror’ pic. It could have been scarier but it was still very enjoyable.

    Set in the 1970’s, a guy the media calls ‘The Grabber’, abducts young boys. He kidnaps Finney and holds him in a basement dungeon. There’s a phone there and the previous victims call Finney and try to help him escape.

    Madeleine McGraw steals the movie playing his younger sister Gwen. She has prophetic dreams, an abusive alcoholic father, swears like a sailor which I usually hate seeing kids curse in movies but it worked here. Religious. With very profane prayers after her brother was taken. Madeleine won a horror movie award for best performance. She was great.

    Madeleine’s little sister Violet was the star of M3GAN, also a good horror movie, not too scary, about a child’s robotic companion that becomes, well, overly protective.

    There’s sequels for both movies in the works. I gave up Instagram last year but used to follow Madeleine since she wouldn’t tick me off. Very sweet family. With daughters in horror movies. There was a video when they finally got a dog and surprised Violet and she was just crying with joy.

      1. Having said that, I think it was a grave mistake to include that clause in the constitution in the first place.
        What does it matter anyway. The constitution may as well be used in my bathroom, for all that it’s worth.

      At public meetings he would drive up in a great big gas guzzler and then lecture all of us on how we must all change our ways of life, take public transit, (something I bet he never did) and start making sacrifices now to save the planet from global warming.

      That and he would preach about ending islamophobia; Not racism, not poverty, not homelessness, not malnutrition. If you heard him talk in his always condescending way you knew not to vote for him.

      Now we know how he planned to end `islamophobia’ and the `global warming deniers’, it was by criminalizing any speech he and the Liberal party disagreed with. When he read 1984 he clearly decided to use it as a manual for our futures.

    1. Nope, all stations will be pay before pumping and the pump will only allow what was paid for. Been that way in the US at the travel centers for years. Using your card at the pump is the other option and that is just about everywhere in Ontario.

      That was an eye-opener, for sure.

      What is the correct response, though, when you watch the police *refuse* to arrest someone who has assaulted you (and on camera, no less)? Can you sue? Make a complaint about their conduct? Or do you just spread this video far and wide in the hope of embarrassing them into actually doing their jobs?

      He showed more restraint than I would have.
