  1. so as I first of all pointed out in citing the superb film ‘Farewell my Concubine’, the uber right is on board with China in regards to mccarthyism (prominent in The Cultural Revolution), and now likewise their right to generate copious amounts of the vilified carbon emissions.

    What planet/star system/galaxy does Friedman in???
    China commisions 2-3 NEW coal fired thermal plants per week….which are not equiped with scrubbers and are among the world’s dirtiest and least efficent.
    The Chinese built CHERY was exhibited at the Detroit Auto-show. US regs forbid it to be driven…it was delivered to the exhibition by roll-off and pushed into the hall…at the end of the show it was promptly returned from whence it came….besides substandard brakes and no structural passenger protection, it’s emmisions were like a tire fire.
    Chinese tires contain over 90% recycled rubber and were exported to Africa….Africans will not now buy any tires made in China now.
    It should not be necessary to remind about lethal Chinese made dog food, deadly Chinese made baby formula and toxic Chinese made soy sauce.

    It should not be necessary to remind that China is about 5th largest nation in land area with a 1.6 billion population that poops every day and uses that poop in it’s food production.
    Just remembering that ought to keep people from buying Chinese food products, even for their pets.

    “As a Chinese person, I cannot accept someone from a developed nation having more right than me to consume energy. We are all created equal – this is no empty slogan. The Americans have no right to tell the Chinese that they can only consume 20% as much energy. We do not want to pollute as they did, but we have the right to pursue a better life.”
    It’s the truth. I’m no fan of China, but it’s hard to disagree with this statement.

  7. I don’t go to Chinese restaurants anymore and avoid any foodstuffs “made in China.” I’d rather not use soya sauce made out of human hair.
    Hey, sasquatch, wasn’t the CHERY (what’s with the name?) Mo Strong’s creation, with a bunch of other Liberal$ on board? Strong LIVES in China now, obviously hoping to make a killing from the 1.6 billion pop, and afraid to come back to North America because he’s wanted for questioning in the U.S. for his involvement in the Oil for Food Scandal.
    Come to think of it, SS — Strong and Scandal — seem all too often to go together.
    In 2005, when the CPC asked the Liberal Government, “Can the Prime Minister [Paul Martin, to whom Maurice Strong was an advisor] assure us that Canadians are not involved in the scandal surrounding the UN’s oil for food program,” then-Foreign Affairs Minister, Pierre Pettigrew, answered ” … clearly the answer is no,” and parliament voted against investigating whether Canada had any role in the UN Oil-for-Food scandal.
    Hmmmm. Now, Canada has Mo Strong’s “nephew,” Bob Rae in a high position in the LPC. If he ever becomes PM, I wonder what Canada’s relationship will be to Strong and China? ‘IMO, too close for comfort.

  8. batb; you good people in Ontario are the only things that will keep Canada from installing another Demarais/Strong toady like Rae. Every PM from Turdough to Martin were Power boys, kind of like the Boys from Brazil, automatons sent out to run Canada for the benifit of a select few, not all Canadians. The eastern angry faces in the press continue to do their best to remove Harper, guess the brown bag industry is hurting. Strong is Dr. Evil, just look at the mans history, this Freidman is another leftie hypocrite/fire stoker for the one world govt run by Dr Evil.

    BTW, one of the posters above mentioned coal fired power plants. Two weeks ago while sailing past the Russian Naval base at Kronstadt, we could see a Russian warship was getting ready to sail and had a head of black smoke. The wind was such that the warship’s smoke drifted over the cruise ship and low and behold, yes, you guessed it, it was coal smoke. Is there anyone on these threads that is old enough to remember when western naval ships burned coal.

    Not that old but I have an interest in naval architecture…
    Coal fired warships are pretty much WW1 stuff in the west. Oil firing was preferred but difficult on distant stations without the established coaling stations.
    The German raider “Emden” refueled by capturing allied colliers.
    Steam was the preferred thing well into WW2 for naval units but oil fired……more flexible, responsive and gave a larger radius of action.
    The US NAVY carrier fleet was oil-fired steam until nuclear was adopted.
    The Soviets always had fiscal problems….When they started building Nuclear powered subs, because of cost, they had to resort to building diesel boats to make up the numbers they felt they needed.
    The Soviets attempt to create a “blue water” navy resulted in a number of gas turbine powered units but obviously coal/steam was necessary to make up numbers.
    Soviet railways retained coal/steam well into the 70’s.
    Despite claims to the contrary, China still has an extensive fleet of coal/steam locomotives in service…lots of labour, lots of coal…imported oil……
