  1. A return to sanity, perhaps? Here’s some good news from Britain:
“Health and safety regulations which burden Britain and lead to good Samaritans facing prosecution are to be swept away in a (Tory) blitz on ‘compensation culture’, it can be revealed.”
    “The proposed changes include:
    – People who perform “good Samaritan” acts which, through no fault of their own, cause others a personal injury should no longer be subject to law suits.
    – Members of emergency services, including part-time police officers, should not be able to be sued when they have risked life and limb to save others.
    – Teachers should no longer have to fill in huge numbers of “risk assessment” forms before taking pupils on trips. A simple consent form, signed by parents, should be all that is needed.
    – Schools should not be liable for injuries suffered by children on trips or when playing sports – except where there has been “reckless disregard”.
    – Firework displays, street parties and concerts should not be able to be banned by local councils or officials on health and safety grounds.
    – Small shops, offices and other “low-risk” workplaces should no longer face complex paperwork to meet risk-assessment and other health and safety criteria.
    – Lawyers who charge “success fees” in “no win, no fee” agreements should no longer be able to recover these fees from defendants.

  2. The kitty came quite close to having testicles for lunch.
    .
    From Venezuela…
“So, for the seventh or eight time this year, the Government made headlines with the US$ 20 billion loan from China to Venezuela, as Chavez said the first US$ 4 billion had been deposited. This is the same agreement reached in April, which is still a little murky, and which was announced again in August.
Funny thing is, the money already arrived according to Chavez, but it was only this week that the Venezuelan National Assembly approved the deal. These Chinese guys are great, they send the money ahead of time, that’s how much they trust Hugo!”

  3. I’m attached to my cats, too, Mamba. All I ask is that they show some courtesy in terms of where they attach to me.

  4. It’s every blowhard’s dream: a captive audience
“In an effort to dominate the (Chilean) miners, the team of psychologists led by Mr Iturra has instituted a series of prizes and punishments. When the miners behave well, they are given TV and mood music. Other treats – like images of the outside world are being held in reserve, as either a carrot or a stick should the miners become unduly feisty.
“In a show of strength, the miners have at times refused to listen to the psychologists, insisting that they are well. ‘When that happens, we have to say, ‘OK, you don’t want to speak with psychologists? Perfect. That day you get no TV, there is no music – because we administer these things,’ said Dr Diaz. ‘And if they want magazines? Well, then they have to speak to us. This is a daily arm wrestle.'”

  5. They abort human children, then they lose sleep because “kitty” has nowhere to go. Send him to rural Saskatchewan. We’ll take of care of “it.”

  6. They never did catch Pinky. He’s probably still out there, somewhere. Think about that as you bed down, next to your little campfire, kids. Sweet dreams!

  7. “Get a gunny sack, take the cat to the river, throw a rock in the bag–end of problem.”…Scripto
We had a farm cat that was “savaged” by a hay mower (lost portions of its limbs and generally badly cut up); in its distress, it crawled up onto our front porch (leaving a trail of blood) and mewed pitifully. Recognizing that it wouldn’t live for long, Dad thru it in a gunny sack with a rock, tied the bag and thru it in the creek.
Just like that award-winning cartoon short, “the cat came back, the very next day” and lay on our front porch mewing pitifully again.
Never underestimate an injured or cornered critter.

  8. And because Ontario is run by cowards that refused to do anything about Native cigarette smuggling and sales have soared, because of the cheapness of them, somehow the farmer will be blamed by McGuinty for taking advantage of this opportunity.
    http://www.nationalpost.com/news/different+kind+grow/3549004/story.html
Now the RCMP admits over 30% of all cigarette sales across Canada are done through native illegal sales. Of course the whole issue would go away if greedy governments charged a fair price for cigarettes, still a legal item.
Now young kids are taking up smoking again with the cheap cigs. I just despise the left like McGuinty and his ilk. Cowards, liars and thieves the lot of them.

  9. Dave, can you say “kickback”? I would have to guess, given the slowly but steadily increasing pressure against the Liberals in rural Ontario AND in Toronto, that there has got to be some major dinero changing hands in the cigarette thing and the windmill thing too.

  10. It’s official! Liberalism IS a mental disorder. So says respected psychologist and author Lyle H. Rossiter.
The Liberal Mind: The Psychological Causes of Political Madness – (Paperback) By Lyle H. Rossiter, Jr., M.D.
    http://tinyurl.com/yc6uagn
“In his penetrating analysis, Lyle Rossiter, M.D., reveals modern liberalism’s assaults on:
    # The freedom of adults to make good lives for themselves by cooperating with others
    # The ability of families to raise children to be self-reliant and mutual
    # The morals, rights and laws that protect our freedoms
“Modern liberalism’s irrationality can only be understood as the product of psychopathology. So extravagant are the patterns of thinking, emoting, behaving and relating that characterize the liberal mind that its relentless protests and demands become understandable only as disorders of the psyche,” declares Rossiter.
“The Liberal Mind” reveals the madness of the modern liberal for what it is: a massive transference neurosis acted out in the world’s political arenas, with devastating effects on the institutions of liberty.”

  11. Unidentified gunmen on Sunday set fire to Crazy Water Park, one of the Gaza Strip’s most popular entertainment sites.
“Eyewitnesses said that at least 25 assailants participated in the pre-dawn attack. The gunmen beat the two night watchmen, bound their hands and confiscated their mobile phones before setting the complex on fire, they said.
“Manager Ala al-A’raj said that the water park was closed down by Hamas two weeks ago. He said that no one was injured in the attack, which destroyed the resort completely.”
    (…)
“Last month Hamas policemen raided the resort and expelled dozens of men and women who had gathered for a fast-breaking meal during Ramadan. The owner of the site was summoned for questioning and warned not to hold events where men and women sit together.
“Sources in the Gaza Strip said that Hamas has been targeting the water park because the owners violated an order banning women from smoking the nargila in public places.
“Last week the Hamas authorities closed down the Sama sea-side restaurant in Gaza City where a woman was seen smoking the nargila.
“Human rights activists said that Hamas has recently stepped up its efforts to impose strict Islamic teachings in the Gaza Strip.”

  12. Herbert I. London at Hudson-ny.org:
“Ignorant opinion is unquestionably on the rise; although there are dozens of examples daily that prove this claim, the most absurd of these examples, is the one employed by government officials, academics, and political candidates: ‘Islam is a religion of peace.’
“People who know nothing about Islam agree that most Muslims do not commit violent or terrorist acts, therefore the religion is peacefull; but that is a classic non sequitur. Most Germans in the 1930’s did not embrace the excesses of Nazism. Most Chinese did not subscribe to the slaughter of millions during Mao’s Long March. Most Russians did not support Stalin’s purges.
“It usually takes a minority to start a revolution or ‘killing fields.’ The key feature of radicalization in any religion or political movement is the silence, or presumptive acquiesce, of the majority, who is mainly moderate.
“When the moderates say, ‘I didn’t realize what was happening,’ or, ‘It is not any of my business,’ problems result. A minority controls a majority when the minority acts and the majority waits. It may be true that the majority wants to go about its business without resort to extremism, but this is irrelevant. It is meaningless fluff that makes us feel better and is meant to diminish a vision of fanatics rampaging across the globe in the name of Islam.
“The fact is that fanatics influence history more than moderates; and, at the moment, it is the fanatics who rule Islam.”
    (…)
“As I see it, the peaceful majority, the moderates whom the press representatives invariably reference, are cowed and extraneous….”

  13. Dim Reaper, while I enjoy watching the liberals getting skewered as much as the next man, I must say that categorizing liberalism as a psychosis is letting them off the hook. It isn’t a disorder. Its a deliberate attack on Western civilization.
It is not lost on the rest of us that when socialists finally win their political struggles, all their sacred cows get slaughtered the next day and tyranny ensues. Communist countries and fascist ones have shown us often enough.
Liberals don’t need treatment. They need to be DEFEATED, ridiculed, and hounded out of public life to the last useful idiot. Liberalism needs to be tarred, feathered, tossed on the manure pile of failed political ideas and then set on fire as an example to would be tyrants elsewhere.
Just to be 100% clear for any lawsuit hunting scum out there, that’s a figure of speech, not a suggestion for somebody to actually do. I’m going to start labeling figures of speech as such, just to grind in the point that lawfare is the last refuge of cowards, thieves and liars.
    And liberals.

  14. The core of the argument for mental disease is here Phantom:
“The Liberal Mind” reveals the madness of the modern liberal for what it is: a massive transference neurosis acted out in the world’s political arenas, with devastating effects on the institutions of liberty.”
IOW the destruction of western liberal freedoms and democracy are a result of mass neurosis expressed as a political ideology and implemented through manufactured consensus via public policy theatrics -Primarily by neurotic leftists calling this madness “liberalism”.

  15. “Dim Reaper, while I enjoy watching the liberals getting skewered as much as the next man, I must say that categorizing liberalism as a psychosis is letting them off the hook.” – Phantom
The term “psychopathology” (Rossiter’s term) is not synonymous with “psychosis”; it merely refers to a state of mental imbalance and unwellness. More to the point, I suggest that the act of merely noticing and observing that the views of prototypical ‘modern liberals’ are unsound and delusional by virtue of being profoundly self-obsessed and circular and self-referential in reasoning, i.e. nuts, isn’t exactly “letting them off the hook.”

  16. History repeats itself, while the stentorian Peter Mansbridge’s of the world sleep the sleep of benighted princes as they prepare their faces for the next attack on the engine of the Canadian economy known as the oilsands…
“There, on the campus of the University of California at Irvine, Jewish students were physically and verbally harassed, threatened, shoved, stalked, and targeted by rock-throwing groups and individuals. Jewish property was defaced with swastikas, and a Holocaust memorial was vandalized. Signs were posted on campus showing a Star of David dripping with blood. Jews were chastised for arrogance by public speakers whose appearance at the institution was subsidized by the university. They were called ‘dirty Jew’ and ‘f*cking Jew,’ told to ‘go back to Russia’ and ‘burn in hell,’ and heard other students and visitors to the campus urge one another to ‘slaughter the Jews.’ One Jewish student who wore a pin bearing the flags of the United States and Israel was told to ‘take off that pin or we’ll beat your ass.’ Another was told, ‘Jewish students are the plague of mankind’ and ‘Jews should be finished off in the ovens.'”

  17. Dave — The cigarette smuggling problem (at least in part)has to do with Ontario’s exorbitant taxes on cigarettes. The issue was supposedly addressed a few years ago by significantly lowering cigarette taxes and, as expected, the issue of illegal cigarettes in the marketplace was notably reduced. McGuinty has allowed taxes to rise again, so the problem once again increases. Surprise, surprise. This is just one example of how the McGuinty government is totally lacking in common sense.

  18. The “far-Right” topples socialism in Sweden.
“the worst result since 1914 for the Social Democrats, effectively ending the party’s 80 year domination of Swedish politics.”
“Success for the Swedish far-Right has followed a string of electoral gains for the far-Right across Europe in countries including the Netherlands, France, Austria, Hungary, Slovakia and Britain.”
    More “far-Right”.
    …-
“Sweden elections end in hung parliament, rise of far-Right”
“Swedish elections on Sunday night ended in a hung parliament after the rise of a far-Right group narrowly prevented the conservative-liberal coalition government from winning an outright majority in Sweden’s parliament.”

  19. Right Honorable EBD and Your Reaperness,
“More to the point, I suggest that the act of merely noticing and observing that the views of prototypical ‘modern liberals’ are unsound and delusional by virtue of being profoundly self-obsessed and circular and self-referential in reasoning, i.e. nuts, isn’t exactly “letting them off the hook.”
Sure it is. In modern parlance, the suggestion of mental imbalance indicates the poor dears can’t help it, thereby excusing them from responsibility while still abhorring their actions.
I suggest their seemingly insane actions are deliberate, that they in fact -can- help it and chose not to. Continuously, and in the face of the very destruction they have wrought in their own lives and those of others, they keep making the same choices every morning when they get up. For money, obviously.
Besides, they only seem insane if you look at them as well intentioned people trying to make a better world. If you look at them like I do, as f-ing SABOTEURS trying to destroy Western civilization, all their activity makes perfect sense.
Like the gun registry. In principle it can’t do what they say it will, so they’d have to be insane to support it. I thought that for a long time. Unless of course they are -lying- about the purpose of the registry. That finally occurred to me when I talked to an old cop who told me a couple things about Alan Rock.
The spectacle of Iggy and Taliban Jack still supporting this turkey in the face of the mountain of contrary evidence, and at considerable peril of their own personal political future, indicates that the Liberal/Left in this country strongly feels the need for a list of gun owners. To the point where they will sacrifice their own MPs to keep it just as they sacrificed Alan Rock to get it.
If the purpose is to reduce crime, that’s insane. But if the purpose is to punish rural voters, keep a giant slush fund handy and have a list of people who need their doors kicked in at 3AM, then its frickin’ brilliant and worth the sacrifice.
Same with environuts. Put Syncrude out of business with insane regulations, then your buddies step in and milk that cash cow for you with regulators who suddenly don’t care about a couple of oiled-up ducks in a settling pond. Got a farmer agitating against your global warming scam, put his ass out of business with permits. It’ll keep the rest nice and quiet.
Liberals are not insane. They are -evil-.
I’ll grant you that some of their lower-echelon followers may well be insane, but most are in it for what they get out of it. Sinecures, brownie points, favorable contracts, brown bags full of money, bj’s, whatever.
Evil. Don’t give the f-ers an inch of slack unless the rope is around their neck and they are standing on a trap door. (For the litigationally inclined reader that is a literary device, not a suggestion to go hang someone.)

  20. Liberal Ziffy’s Razor: Liberal brand.
MSM has “Liberal” as the first word in its headline.
Liberal Ziffy says, Moi am not now a member of the “Liberal fundraiser” party; nor, have Moi ever been a member of the “Liberal fundraiser” party.
    …-
“Liberal fundraiser had access to Quebec premier’s office: docs
MONTREAL – A powerful Liberal fundraiser visited a nominations official in the premier’s office at least 20 times in 2003 and 2004 on the same days that cabinet made judicial appointments, QMI Agency has learned.
The revelations about moneyman Charles Rondeau come days before Premier Jean Charest is to take the stand in his defence at a public inquiry into the nomination of judges.
Former justice minister Marc Bellemare says Charest, Rondeau and fundraiser Franco Fava pressured him to name people with Liberal ties to the bench during the period in question. Charest denies the claims and has sued Bellemare for $700,000.
Documents obtained by QMI indicate that Rondeau had privileged access to officials in Charest’s office between August 2003 and March 2004, when Bellemare served as cabinet minister in the newly-minted Liberal government.
Rondeau visited the office more than 20 times, usually meeting with Chantal Landry, an assistant director in the premier’s office who is in charge of the nominations process. The meetings between Rondeau and Landry lasted several hours, according to documents, and nearly always took place on days when the cabinet made nominations.
One of the meetings was on Sept. 3, 2003, a day after Bellemare says Charest told him to follow the fundraisers’ advice on judicial appointments.”

  21. Phantom – I suggest that many middle class lefties are neither evil nor insane (daft does not = insane). They’re snobs. It doesn’t necessarily go deeper than that.
Rick from Ontario @8:19 – dare I ask what you did with the poor brave trusting injured kitty?

  25. The agony, angst, and aching cuts to the left-liberal arts.
    More, please.
    Here’s the aaa:
“The Netherlands, another country renowned for its liberalism, has been paralysed since June after Geert Wilders, an anti-Islam politician, came third, denying any centre political party a majority. Next month Mr Wilders is on trial for inciting hatred of Muslims.
In Belgium, also in June, voters overturned all political conventions by giving Flemish separatists, who call for the country to be broken up, the largest share of the vote.
Far-right parties currently are in government in Italy and also sit in the parliaments of Austria, Bulgaria, Denmark, Hungary, Latvia, Slovakia and the European Parliament.
“Politics is becoming nationalistic and nativist in many parts of Europe, reflected in an anti-immigrant backlash, Islamophobia, and the rise of extreme right wing parties,” said Nouriel Roubini, professor of economics at New York University’s Stern School of Business.”
“Like parties in the Netherlands, Austria and Denmark, Sweden’s Democrats, which yesterday boasted of having “written political history”, campaigned on anti-Islam and anti-immigrant platform to win 5.7 per cent of the vote, almost double its result in 2006 elections.”
“Sweden has joined a growing list of European countries where nationalist and populist politicians have broken the mould, destabilising governments hit by popular disenchantment and fallout from the global economic crisis.”
    …-
“Greens rule out joining Sweden’s conservative-liberal minority
“Sweden’s Greens have told the prime minister that they will not work with his conservative-liberal minority as the country’s politicians scramble to try and keep newly elected far-Right MPs out of the government.”
