46 Replies to “Ethical Oil”
It is best to keep in mind that the same loons who seek to shut down the Oil Sands projects also seek to remove All the hydro electric dams…”to let the rivers run free….”
In a practical sense, this is cleaning up Gai’s largest natural oil spill. Resulting extraction polution and the CO2 nonsense is just that…nonsense.
Ezra’s site indicates he has a touching faith in the purity of motives of the leaders of the environmentalism, and believes he’ll persuade them to support oilsands development.
Fat chance that will happen, but maybe he can persuade a few voters with this book.
These public debates are *never* undertaken for the benefit of the opponent.
I’m glad Ezra made the effort to write this book. The parallels between blood diamonds vs.ethical diamonds and the 3rd world oil vs. Canadian oilsands should be obvious to everyone but the green activists. Public officials need to quit being apologetic and embarrassed about the oilsands and, instead, boast about its advantages: security, environmental responsibility, technological advancement, profitability, labor standards, etc.
Ezra was just on.He made complete and total fools of the anti-oilsands group, not that that is hard.He basically said(off-air),then shut down your fu*&ing phone now and don’t talk to me.Funny thing, they kept yapping!!!
Anyone know when the show will be available via the archives?
I’m attending his reading and book signing event tomorrow (Sept 17) at noon at McNally Robinson in Saskatoon.

Yea Iv’e never seen any of the lefties names on the donor boards of any hospitals community centers parks or recreation centers, why is that? Because all they know is criticism and money theft from the stupid and gillible, not creation and the making of a better world. They should be ignored like the panhandlers they are.
Ezra will be at the Chapters bookstore at Kenaston Common in Winnipeg tonight at 7:00 pm.
His exposure of the hypocrisy of the oil-sands bashers reminds me of the hyprocrisy of the anti-apartheid movement in the 1980’s. While it’s true that apartheid is morally indefensible, on the other hand most of South Africa’s critics had no problem with vast human rights abuses and mass murder in the rest of Africa at the time. In fact, many of these dictatorial states were applauded for being on the “front line” against the “racist republic”, and given huge sums of foreign aid and weaponry as a result.
Today, we have something similar occurring with western governments bankrolling oil-sands bashing directly and indirectly through the funding of “eco-friendly” academics and environmental organizations, and with their stubborn support of the notion that CO2 is a pollutant.
Cross-posted at Ezra’s blog a couple of days ago:
Bravo! Ezra was a class act tonight [Tuesday, Sept. 14] at Indigo, corner of Bay and Bloor, “the centre of the universe!!,” in his talk on his new book, Ethical Oil. I learned a lot about a subject I knew next to nothing about, just the negative propaganda of the environmentalists. And now I’ve got his signed book to educate me even further. Thanks, Ezra!
One statistic that was illuminating, among many (Ezra’s done his homework), is that there are more Ontarians employed by the Alberta Oil Sands (Tar Sands is a derogatory term and not entirely accurate) than are employed by the Big Three automakers. That’s a positive for Ontario; it’s not just Alberta and Albertans that are benefitting.
Ezra, looking very spiffy in a well-cut grey suit with a classy pink, black, and white plaid tie, came out with both (unregistered) guns blazing — well, in a manner of speaking — and was so articulate, using the liberals’ own arguments and language to completely debunk the lies and spin of the oil sands naysayers, that when he opened the floor to questions, there was barely a peep out of the Greenpeacers in the audience. I know there must have been some, including the two women beside me, because they didn’t laugh at Ezra’s jokes (I did) or clap when he scored a bullseye against all the lies that Greenpeace has told about the Alberta Oilsands. They didn’t buy his book, either. Their loss.
Thanks for a great hour, Ezra! When I was getting my book signed, I told him how happy I was to be a part of “the revolution” that’s happening in Canada, very much including, of course, [Ezra’s] blog and so many others that are speaking truth to lies. This book is another nail in the left/liberal/faux environmentalists’ coffin.
Heard Ezra on Jian Gomeshi’s show Q yesterday. He was actually quite persuasive, and I like his argument, although there’s no shortage of slippery-slopeness to basic premise. Still, Ezra sounded convincing, and barely got snippy or partisan with his opponent, Andrew Nikiforuk. If hardcore lefty libtard like me can say that, he’s probably onto something. He’s certainly telling Canadians what they want to hear.
Read it, then go punch a hippy for supporting the oil produced by human rights abusers and huge polluters like Nigeria.
batb, I so hope you are right about the revolution, it has to wake up the loons in NDPee and Lieberal ranks in your part of the world, if there is a way to waste or steal money there is always a leftie at the front of the line, look at the current crisis on the front pages of every leftie rag in Canada, yea lets waste another 2 billion on a useless registry while there are no hospital beds and wait lines are longer than ever. It is so pressing that the eastern angry faces in the media save this worthless registry what is in it for them, more brown bags stuffed with cash?
small c conservative @ 4:34: “Ezra’s site indicates he has a touching faith in the purity of motives of the leaders of the environmentalism…”
I don’t think Ezra does that at all. I think he shows that although the ideals of environmentalists are good, their motives, methods and solutions are clearly flawed.
Surely you can’t believe, small c, that all environmental conservation is intrinsically evil because it doesn’t always serve the interests of unfettered industrialization.
But to each his own — if you’d rather go fishing and swimming in dangerously toxic lakes and rivers then I’m sure we can arrange a cottaging vacation in an area of hyper-industrialized China, where they don’t give a rat’s ass about the environment. But I wouldn’t plan on having children any time soon unless you intend to exhibit them at a circus freak show.
We heard Ezra on Adler and are seriously considering driving back to Saskatoon to get a signed book.
The oil sands war is not about the oil sands as it is about anything that advances the left’s agenda.
From the administration that brought you “man-caused disaster” and “overseas contingency operation,” another terminology change is in the pipeline.
The White House wants the public to start using the term “global climate disruption” in place of “global warming” — fearing the latter term oversimplifies the problem and makes it sound less dangerous than it really is.
Digging into the Canadian Oil-Sands for filthy lucre could cause a ‘global climate disruption.’
On second thought.
Piss on the disruption.
We Yanks need the Gas.
Ezra pounded his opponent with ,”why don’t you criticize or demonstrate in China,Libya,Saudi Arabia,Iran, etc.”,and the guy completely dodged the question.
Ezra answered it himself,”it’s because you’re afraid to”. And so are most activists afraid to criticize anyone who’ll do them harm, like Muslims.
As Ezra said,”they’re a bunch of cowards”.
Anyone who’d donate to Greenpeace really should do some research on that organization.
batinsky: “batb, I so hope you are right about the revolution …”
bartinsky, I am, although I’m not responsible for the outcome. There IS a revolution going on in Canada, though not at the level of our most tyrannical institutions — or in this part of the world (Toronto), though I get my ten cents’ worth in anytime I can (!).
The blogosphere, however, IS making a difference. Increasing numbers of Canadians have made their choice NOT for the status-quo media but for other venues that tell the truth, that give us facts we’re never going to discover at the TorStar or the CBC.
There is a revolution going on, and we’re in on the beginning. Nearly 40 years of the Librano$’ tyrannical hegemony won’t be beaten down overnight. But, I see signs — Ezra’s two best-selling books, Kate’s and others’ blogs — that the tide is beginning to turn.
Push-back against the “official” Canadian isms — feminism, multiculturalism, bilingualism, relativism — is starting to happen.
What we need now is the courage of our convictions. What we need now is some chutzpah, a willingness to “be a David.” (Check out the Old Testament if you’re not sure what that means.) What we need is a return to the faith of our mothers and fathers, which gave them the courage and the chutzpah to dare to be Davids.
WE. DON’T. NEED. TO. BE. WIMPS. ANY. MORE.
NO. MORE. WIMPS. Repeat after me: NO. MORE. WIMPS.
Ken Kulack, drive back to Saskatchewan, listen to Ezra’s barn-burner of a speech (he talks FAST), and get yourself a signed book! I guarantee, you won’t be disappointed!
Ezra has this so well tuned, you feel in the presence of a verbal ballet. You can’t argue with his points with the best part using the lefts so much vaulted environmentalism with self righteousness against them. Ezra is a Master at this. He almost had me weeping for the geese.

Hey Everyone,
You can find the podcast MP3 file here.
My favourite part was near the end when Ezra shared that the Greenpeace folks refused to acknowledge that Canadian society is morally superior than the Saudi Arabian society.
Their refusal to do this indicts the Left on so many levels!!!
Darn, it’s too bad that I have plans tomorrow. I’m sure the reading and book signing would have been interesting. I wonder if any of Saskatoon’s university crowd will attend. They’ve probably already shed quite a few tears for those poor old geese.
batb @ 7:10 “There is a revolution going on, and we’re in on the beginning.”
Imho, “counter-revolution” is probably more accurate. The “revolution” already happened — “revolutionary dictators” are already in power. We want to kick them out and return to democracy.
Besides, “counter-revolution” would be really cool — I’m an old “latin-american Contra” from way back…
😉
The BNN interviews/debates were priceless. Ezra called a spade a spade. The huckster from Greenpeace International Inc wanted to be anywhere but where he was after Ezra’s first salvo, and just took a shelling from then on.
ricardo, counter-revolution is fine with me! If that means we’re revolting against the Trudeaupian revolution that hit Canada over 40 years ago, then thumbs up.
Dalton McSquinty and John (the real spelling) Charest threw the oilsands under the bus whilst giving the feds the Indian handshake (palm up)
never have heard an explanation or an apology.
Albertans are merely cleaning up Mother Nature’s Oil Spill.
When the entire forces of the world’s greatest nation was focused on cleaning up the Gulf of Mexico oil spill, that was a good thing.
Alberta’s Oil Sands, and those in Saskatchewan, were the result of a natural breach in the earth’s core.
That allowed the oil to escape and rise to the surface, where it mixed with the natural soils and sands.
Instead of ‘thank you, Alberta,’ all we get is abuse.
I have two word for you environazis: Piss off
a breach in the earth’s core?
how about an erosional surface breaching the cretaceous
I love the fact that Greenpeace has an agreement NOT to bash China.
“Tar Sands” is not a derogatory term; it’s the original historic description of the deposit by the first European visitors.
“Oils Sands” may be more scientifically correct, but it smacks of changing the name to make it more palatable to the Great Unwashed.
I’m OK with “Tar Sands” and rub it in the faces of the filthy commies.
China , umimpeded by greenie goofs , has invested heavily in the oil sands. they will eventually invest in a pipeline to the coast , insist on taking in kind once they own a 30% share and the good ole USA will be $hit up a gum tree , on the outside looking in as the worlds most reliable oil supply goes west not south.
Fearless Leader at 6:53 PM, the latest I’ve heard is “climate instability”. They do have a knack for choosing memes that are so incredibly easy to destroy, as if climate has EVAH been stable. They just keep hanging themselves with their own ropes. Won’t be long before there are none left. I’m sure they’re in search of another cause already, and all indications are it’s blaming the West for Islamism.
Lowell Green also has a new book out: Maydaymayday.ca . Like Ezra, he is also usually very astute in his research and arguments.
Kate, Charles and Ezra are pimping their Conservative agenda, and so are you. Human trafficking/smuggling is a henious crime against humanity ( http://fairwhistleblower.ca/content/human-trafficking-rampant-canada-rcmp-reports ) , delete my comment if you wish, but the tuth is that Harper violated the Geneva Convention, and, ethical oil is just another political distraction that Harper is playing to distract canaians from the fact that Canada neglects to even recognize water as a basic fundamental human right. Water??? Yes water… put that in your pipe ( gas tank ) and smoke it!
Pssst…Frank….
THE COLD WAR IS OVER AND YOUR SIDE LOST!
They say it is not over until the fat lady sings. Well sports fans when the Canada Pension Plan started putting money in the Oil Sands the game ended for the Neo Commies.
The Oil Sands debate is over. George Soros is invested in it. Obama uses it – pipe line to Chicago. and 2/3s of Canada is powered by Alberta.
Have an nice day.
I saw Ezra speak last night in Winnipeg. I was hoping that a tree hugger or two would show up just for some fireworks, but I suspect that the word is getting out amongst the greenies that it’s best to ignore Ezra and hope he fades away. That’s obviously not going to happen.
He gave a lively, convincing and forthright presentation. While explaining that there is always room for improvement in oil sands development re its impact on the environment, he points out that it is, in fact, probably the most ethical oil source in the world and that Canadians should be proud of it, not ashamed.
Canada isn’t alone in this mess. You have
greenies wanting to shut down the Oil Sands
and we have a regime that prohibits us from
drilling in the gulf of Mexico but lends
Mexico a billion to drill in the Gulf of
Mexico.
Frank Docherty, WTF is a “canaian”?

Stick that up your butt and smoke it, me fine Irish boyo!
Ezra was heckled throughout his presentation in Saskatoon at McNally Robinson book store. One heckler was finally tossed outside where he set up a microphone and continued chanting. The staff eventually shut the blinds. Very exciting.
The heckler came back in for the book signing where a group of Ezra supporters engaged him in debate and found out he hadn’t read the book, only the title, so one of the men bought him a copy of the book.
McNally staff said they’d only had protesters once before. Ignatieff attracted the anti-gun registration folk, “who leaned on their protest signs and asked polite questions”, according to McNally staff.
Ezra Levant is such an idiot. His justification of oil sand in terms of human rights issues in other countries is totally off the mark and meaningless. How on earth can the democracy in Canada justify the pollution and the destruction of the First Nations People’s lives — if he wants to talk about human rights! — caused by oil sand??? How on earth can it make oil sand a better way of producing oil and justify the use of oil as an energy source and the use of automobiles in the first place??? Don’t blame other countries to hide the horrible environmental impact of oil sand created in Canada. His ignorance and stupidity is unbearable.
Karrie, have you listened to what Ezra has to say about the “destruction of the First Nations lives” or have you read his book?
I didn’t think so.
The oil has been in Alberta’s Oilsands for milennia. Did you know that Native Canadians are gainfully employed at the Oil Sands, for a good working wage — if you REALLY want to talk about human rights and not handouts — and that deformities in fish existed long before oil was being extracted from the “tar sands”?
Do your homework, lassie. Ezra has NEVER “blame[d] other countries,” he’s simply pointed out that the world is going to buy oil from someone, and if you want to buy blood oil from countries where human rights are the last thing on their agenda and their oil workers are grossly overworked and underpaid (what do you mean, benefits?), go ahead, that’s your choice. However, if you buy oil from Canada, you know that workers in the Oil Sands are well paid (with benefits) and are not exploited the way they are in Venezuela, Iran, Iraq, and Sudan.
Ezra’s book has a lot of other information you might be interested in, although you don’t seem to have a very inquiring mind, just one that’s made up already and is filled with enviro-whackos’ propaganda.
As for someone’s unbearable ignorance and stupidity, I suspect that you’re looking at yourself in the mirror. Otherwise, how about some stats and facts to back up your smears against Ezra?
It is best to keep in mind that the same loons who seek to shut down the Oil Sands projects also seek to remove All the hydro electric dams…”to let the rivers run free….”
