    Don’t know what you’re on about.
    Chiropractors were fully funded until the PCs defunded them last year.
    Don’t know about acupuncture, which is quackery IMHO.
    Seems like the PCs are floundering and looking to buy votes by not being such dicks to the private sector as much as they were.
    I’m still voting WRA and they better not defund chiropractice just because the slash and chemical burn establishment wants an unimpeachable union monopoly on medical authority.

    A few years ago in between seasons with the Edmonton Wildcats I popped a few ribs out training in the gym. I went to the doctor immediately, he prescribed pain killers and “off the shelf” muscle relaxants.
    A week later I still couldn’t work, nor could I move without extreme pain so i went and visited my child hood chiropractor. It took less than a minute for him to diagnose and pop the ribs back in place. Instantaneous healing.
    Being in the trades and working physically every working day of my life I would sooner see my tax dollars go to my chiropractor where I would see the best results.
    Although I still have to fund someone else’s doctor.

  14. Soeren Kern, writing at Hudson New York, looks at the gap between “Germany’s politically correct elites”, including much of the media, and ordinary Germans on the matter of Muslim immigration. In one poll a whopping 89 percent of respondents found the arguments of Thilo Sarrazin, the German banker who questioned the merits of large scale Muslim immigration, to be convincing.
    Kern:

    Kern notes that the magazine Der Spiegel “refuses to accept the fact that many ordinary Germans do not share the political opinions of the media class, and summarily declares alternative viewpoints as racist”, but other media outlets, both left, right, and centre, are starting to reflect and accept the more mainstream view.

  16. wallyj, just saw the segment too, complete with offended Torontonians interviewed. While not explicitly referenced by Fife, it did contain the “this is why the conservatives will never elect an MP from the city” thrust to it.
    Funny how that always seems to be MSM’s analysis in such stories but when Torontonians continue to vote Liberal in provincial by-elections (in landslides BTW), in spite of countless broken promises, boondoggles and over-taxation, their analysis is never “what do the Liberals have to do to lose a seat in Toronto?”
    The outcome of those by-elections is to the MSM’s liking so there’s no need for that sort of critical analysis by them.

    Doyle: “The CBC is not shoved down anyone’s throat. A democracy has a public broadcaster, paid for by all citizens. That’s what happens. As a public broadcaster, it is mandated to be different. It is mandated to be Canadian, and mandated, among other things, to put the Canadian arts, both high and low, on the airwaves.”
    One common trick of the left is to blur the distinction between voluntary and coerced, and here is a glaring example. If you have better things to do with your money than support the CBC, it is definitely “shoved down your throat”.
    Also, the claim that “a democracy has a public broadcaster” is ridiculous. A democracy is a political system in which the people have a say in electing their government, and nothing more. There is nothing whatsoever in there about broadcasting. It was the Soviet Union that had the propaganda newspaper Pravda, and since broadcasting is the electronic form of the newspaper, dictatorships try to have their propaganda broadcasters but democracies need not and should not.
    He continues: “It is Canada’s most important cultural institution. We all pay for it in the same that we pay to have clean water and an education system. Canada is located next door to the great behemoth of U.S. broadcasting and the country needs a distinct cultural institution anchored in its public broadcaster.”
    If it’s an “important cultural institution” to you, then you pay for it. It’s not important to me; I hardly ever watch it — maybe two or three times over the past twenty years, with the exception of occasional sports events like the Olympic Games and this year’s World Cup. American culture is rather feeble; it shouldn’t be that hard for Canadians to compete with it.

    The header on the second page of the article in the newspaper reads, “Health research funding should not be determined by popularity contests.”
    That’s rich. The funding flows for breast cancer research (as opposed to, say, prostate cancer) precisely because “the squeaky wheel gets the grease”. Ditto for AIDS research funding. Politicizing research is worse than a mere popularity contest.
    Incidentally, if the alleged new MS treatment should be studied further, why does every province have to do their own? Couldn’t the health providers of the world get together to do ONE study to settle the issue?

    Perhaps these Castro job cuts could be Cuba’s Berlin Wall turning-point moment?
    “It has the potential of being an earthquake,” Florida International University in Miami Cuban expert Marifeli Pérez-Stable told Reuters, adding this is shining a light on the fact “the contract Cubans had with the revolution doesn’t work anymore.”

  28. Oz, acupuncture, done correctly is amazingly effective. The first time my physio therapist suggested it for my sciatic nerve I was more than a little sceptical. To say the least!
    She did it twice a week for me and each session allowed me to move around almost pain free for two or three days. It did not fix the nerve problem, but it did allow me the freedom to carry out the exercises I needed to do to get rid of the pain completely.
    It sounds like voodoo for sure, but in the end (no pun intended!!) I went from not being able to stand for more than 5 minutes at a stretch to full mobility.

    As for chiropracty and acupuncture: they are voodoo. There’s no scientific validity to either practice. Some chiropractors mix basic massage/physical therapy techniques in with their chiropracty, which can indirectly have some effect, but even a sugar pill will make you feel better if you think it’s medicine and you trust the doctor giving it to you.
    I’ve no objection to people paying for voodoo with their own money, but as long as we have to have socialized medicine in this country I’d just as soon take all the money that goes to “alternative” medicine and buy another MRI unit or three.

  32. We comment here many times on our “legal system” not our “justice system” as we don’t have one.
    Every day there are examples of the stupidity and tremendous waste of time and enrichment of lawyers at the expense of justice. It takes years to come to trail and here is a couple from today’s paper.
    Kyle Weese pulled out a gun on October 25, 2008 and in front of witnesses fired 13 shots and emptied his gun into the foyer of the Duke of York Tavern killing Bailey Zaveda and wounding four others. The crown has the gun, witnesses, DNA evidence and the identified shooter who pled not guilty.
    The trial is expected to last at least, at least 5 WEEKS. This POS should be convicted in 5 minutes or at the most 5 hours just to be thorough. Imagine the expense and people’s time wasted on this.
    This stuff goes on day after day thanks according to court officials to Turdeau’s Rights and Freedoms Act.
    Another example is the Barrie mother who drowned her two girls on OCTOBER 4, 2006. Four years to come to trail and just starting on its dragging weeks, just insane.
    And at the end of these cases with 2-3 to 1 sentence reductions, automatic early parole, house arrest, judge compassion like the Alberta judge had for the muslim woman who strangled her daughter in an obvious “honour killing” and let the mother just walk away what is the point of bothering to convict them at all.

    He can explain that philosophy at the Pearly Gates, since SWAT took him out of circulation permanently.

  37. +1 to Daniel Ream! Despite a CBC story I saw recently proudly claiming “average 84-day wait times” for MRI in BC, Global ran a story just a week or two ago about a local man who was given an 18-month wait despite traumatic head injury. Lucky for him, he went to a private MRI clinic since he was falling constantly, and they discovered massive brain problems that would certainly have been fatal long before his 18-month appointment.
    My motto: never ask the Ceeb – ask the people.

    My wife is in the health care industry here in Ontario and she just got an MRI within 4 days of requesting it. She’s got connections within the Diagnostic Imaging departments of several hospitals and they practically tripped over one another offering her immediate service.
    Ain’t our one-tier health care system grand?
