  1. When someone like that goes on about how humans are the problem…
I always suggest they lead by example.

  2. For some reason, it seems ironic to me that he would use a gun (or some explosives) to protest “programs promoting War and the technology behind those”.

  3. “All programs promoting War and the technology behind those must cease”
Make up your mind! What do you want? To lower the number of “filthy human children” or to raise their number by ending war?

  4. This guy is Choo Choo for CoCoa Puffs, which is pretty typical of the environmentalists that if chatted with.
Can you imagine if his demands to the Discovery Channel were met?
As if anyone would watch it, eh Lee?
Ever heard of a remote control?
Didn’t think of that wrinkle did ya, Skippy?

  5. I thought the “Shark Week” ads were ads of the first order. (it’s my “first time” ect…)
Has anyone told Lee what his carbon credits are worth today? ok, first the gun/guns and then the truth.

  6. I have been listening to this live – the broadcasters were speculating that it may have been someone angry at the eco-positive shows on Discovery, like Whale Wars. (You know, a typical Tea Party type of person).
No retraction, no apology as the truth is coming out. Just malignant smears.
Clearly, this unfortunate guy is mentally ill, (and by that I mean the protestor).

  7. “Gunman in Discovery TV building demands better programming from the science network.”
Please tell me that this is one of Kate’s cod-headlines.

  8. In absolute fairness, this guy is obviously schizophrenic or bipolar.
I loath these greenies, but I can’t help thinking that blaming the whole Environmentalist movement for the actions of an unhinged mental patient is a little like holding all pro-lifers responsible for those extremely rare cases where some nut decides to take out an abortionist.
On the other hand, of course this should be publisized. re. Erik Larsen’s comment – imagine if this headcase had once attended a tea party event.
Again, it’s a question of whether the Right should start using the left’s own despicable tactics against them.
(If my comment is more incoherent than normal, I apologize, it’s the heat. I’d go out and buy a fan but I can’t move.)

  9. Lotta demands for a guy with one measly hostage.
Just shoot him. It’s what he really wants, anyway.

  10. How long will it take before the Leftist talking heads try to associate this nutter with conservative talk radio and Christianity? Not very, I bet.
    From the WaPo:
A note posted online July 18 issues a list of demands to the Discovery Channel, saying the station “MUST broadcast to the world their commitment to save the planet.” It lists 11 demands about airing shows that would promote curbing the plant’s population growth, finding solutions for global warming and dismantling “the dangerous US world economy.”
“All programs on Discovery Health-TLC must stop encouraging the birth of any more parasitic human infants and the false heroics behind those actions,” it reads. “In those programs’ places, programs encouraging human sterilization and infertility must be pushed. All former pro-birth programs must now push in the direction of stopping human birth, not encouraging it.”
The manifesto was published on savetheplanetprotest.com. The site is registered to James Lee, who gave a post office box in Canada as his address.

  11. I’m thinking a good barrage of rutabaga’s followed up with an assault of turnips, could settle this issue. Or we could get bammy to drop by and sprinkle some unicorn dust on the building.

  12. Photos of Lee here.
    ~Robert W.
Looks like he subscribes to the Al Gore diet.
Why is it that “passionate” environmentalists watch TV and use computers I wonder?
Aren’t these things kind of the epitome of the technology they despise?
“Clearly, this unfortunate guy is mentally ill”
    ~Erik Larsen
    Liberalism is a mental disease.
The contradictions it contains could make anyone crazy.
Lee is just showing the world how mental a committed environmentalist can get when he thinks globally and acts locally.

  13. Those sensative caring leftoids are making themselves heard in the comments on the story as well!
“…and honestly, I’m having trouble regretting that now that it’s happened. I think my only disappointment is that he didn’t go after a more obnoxious network, like TLC or FOX.?

  14. *
breach a door… toss in elizabeth may,
some healing crystals and a sh!tload
    of flashbangs.
    win-win situation.

  15. OK, the comments over there are hilarious.
    To wit:
    ” 01:18 PM
    sending request
    Invite a friend to comment
I really hope no one gets hurt so that this can remain hilarious and awesome”

  16. That REAL headline reads like a spoof headline from The Onion!
The guy has a point, we need to reduce the population by at least one …SWAT snipers, fire at will whenever you get a clear shot. Think of it as a VERY late term abortion.

  17. “and of course, the Squirrels….”
That my friends, is pure poetry….
I’m not entirely clear on this, but I think he’s against procreation? Am I right on that…?

  18. I feel a bit sorry for the gunman. His demands are
    mainstream leftist/environmentalist, except perhaps
for demanding broadcasting quality. If he’d played
his cards better he would have ended up as Minister
of Something – or – other.

  19. Black Mamba: I agree with you entirely! My thoughts are not to blame the Environmental Movement for this fellow’s actions but I think it’s completely fair game to point out the inconsistency of the MSM in such matters.

  20. Maybe we could get Al Gore to come and offer himself up as a hostage.
Then if this nutter goes deeper off the deep end, we might be lucky and get a 2-fer.

  21. Um, look guys, it’s kinda funny, but it’s not. The guy is sick.
I just hope it all ends peacefully, and nobody gets hurt, so he can get appropriate treatment.

  22. Erik, it’s like walking and chewing gum.
One can hope that nobody gets hurt, and also revel in the political irony after a season of conjecture from Pelosi, Bloomberg, et al about “angry Tea Party rhetoric” spawning violence.

  23. “I loath these greenies, but I can’t help thinking that blaming the whole Environmentalist movement for the actions of an unhinged mental patient” ~Black Mamba
The goals of the Environmental Movement do not differ from Lee’s goals.
    Only the methods differ.
Lee wants to achieve those goals through education via controling the Discovery Channel at gunpoint while the Environmental Movement wants to achieve the same goals through COP 15 in Copenhagen last year through legislation and attempt those goals again with COP 16 at Mexico City this year.
Either way, anyone who resists those goals is going to end up with a gun in their face if Lee or the Environmentalists get what they want.

  24. Anyone want to guess what is NOT mentioned at ALL in the CBC’s coverage of this?
    Anyone?
    Bueller?
Not a single mention that this freak is an environut. Only that he has issues with Discovery programming.
Imagine CBC leaving that little tidbit out.

  25. Thinking of the previous post . . . maybe his love of Al Gore made him invest his life savings in the CCX and this mornings $0.05 price just flipped him over the edge.

  26. Ehhhh…this guy is obviously just a wannabe progressive. His manifesto focuses on educating the public so that people choose sterilization. A real progressive would pressure government directly to pass laws forcing population control through new laws, regulations and taxation. They might even become a science czar.

  27. The cops just shot him … watch the lamestream media story now morph into a “police brutality’ meme.

  28. Ehhhh…this guy is obviously just a wannabe progressive. His manifesto focuses on educating the public so that people choose sterilization.
I don’t know, he probably figured education worked on him…sooo…
At least he didn’t become a teacher or get a job shaping the curriculum like Bill Ayers did.

  29. Kate @453 – yeah, I know, and I get the irony of this all (as I pointed out at 343), but for some people to write that they hope he gets shot – it’s a bit out of bounds.
I get the humour (see on my comment at 355) – but I think commentors should still exercise restraint and good judgement.

  30. I want him to live.
I want his lawyers to go after the heads of the American Environmental Movement and sue them up, down, sideways…
    Keep it in the NEWS.

  31. But Oz, in my opinion that lawyering comment thing is wrong thinking. If someone who is mentally ill goes after some Democrat because of his/her delusion, do you want their lawyers to sue Republicans or the Tea Party up down and sideways?
Again, the real story here is the automatic and assumed narrative of the news media – that this guy must be some right wing whacko.

  32. “made light of the protest”.
Oughta be a law ‘gainst that.
As Liberal Citoyen Kyoto Dionky says, It’s not fair.
    …-
“The DCist, a Web site that covers the D.C. area, made light of the protest in a story at that time.
“Sometime last week a friend of DCist sent in this rather hilarious website promoting what appears to be a one-man crusade and protest against the Silver Spring, Md.-based Discovery Channel. As you can see, the singularly named ‘Lee,’ with his faux-tough mug shot and all-caps, is dishing out a little of the old insane rambling on the cable network to promote his ‘Save the Planet Protest Against the Discovery Channel.'”
“Suspect has long protested Discovery programming
Website talks of his wanting networks to expose civilization ‘for the filth it is'”

  33. Have you read the demands? They’re actually rather funny.
“THIS IS AT THE EXPENSE OF THE FOREST CREATURES!!!!”
“Humans are supposed to be inventive. INVENT, DAMN YOU!!”
“Nothing is more important than saving them. The Lions, Tigers, Giraffes, Elephants, Froggies, Turtles, Apes, Raccoons, Beetles, Ants, Sharks, Bears, and, of course, the Squirrels. ”
Of course, we can’t forget the squirrels. This stuff is pretty funny.

  34. Erik: Saul Alinsky’s Rules for Radicals no. 4: “RULE 4: “Make the enemy live up to its own book of rules.”
I’m half paying Devil’s Advocate here – and Alinsky dedicated this book to Lucifer, so there you go – and honestly I’m both ways on this one, but since the left just refuses to play by Queensbury rules, shouldn’t we hit back under the belt, if only – mainly – to hold up to ridicule the disgusting, amoral absurdity of their approach? (that’s not a rhetorical question.)

  35. “But Oz, in my opinion that lawyering comment thing is wrong thinking.”
Lee said at the time that he experienced an ‘‘awakening” when he watched former Vice President Al Gore’s environmental documentary ‘‘An Inconvenient Truth.”
(sorry for not having a link)
Al “the Debate is Over” Gore would want there to be no debate.
If “someone who is mentally ill goes after some Democrat because of his/her delusion” you can bet your bottom dollar that the MSM and all the Leftist Pols and their footsoldiers are going to make hay out of it.
You’ve been following politics these past few years so I know this was a momentary lapse on your part, Erik Larsen.
It’s enough that the ensuing debate would reveal that Lee’s goals were identical to the E-Movement’s goals, those goals resulting in radical population reduction.
