Barney Frank and others on the House Finance Ctte. should be sacked…
Yes the financial pillars of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac have imploded and the 2300 odd page Financial Reform Bill which hasn’t been read should be passed because Americans “trust their politicians”…
Maybe they can all go and live under their TARP (Troubled Asset Relief Plan).
Their idea of relief is to have your home repo’d and sold at a 50% discount so you can buy a TARP and camp out permanently with your family in the local National Park…
The upshot is that Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac created a TRILLION DOLLAR PUMP AND DUMP in American real estate. Great job guys…obviously the SEC has been top shelf in exposing this massive FRAUD…NOT!
Why is it I can’t keep the thought of reaching for an air sickness bag? Its been a HELLuva ride but if I wanted a roller coaster, I’d take my kids to the theme parks. Besides the price of admission is considerably cheaper.

Too bad this will get almost no play in the MSM.
Good job pointing the finger in the right direction.
While the democrats brought the housing crisis on America, Libby Davis was ranting in Commitee for Canada to throw away our credit limits and do the same here. The NDP want us to go down that very same road and her constituents appear to love the ranting. Go figure…
Mel: You have no idea how incredibly aggravated I’ve been at NDP’ers and federal Liberals re our current deficit for THEY WERE THE ONES demanding that Harper borrow all that money earlier this year!!! I often think that politicians like this really do think we’re stupid/ignorant and all have collective Alzheimers. Sadly, given that most people barely pay any attention to the news except just a week or so before an election, it’s probably an effective albeit cynical strategy.
As for the situation in America, of course Barney Frank and Chris Dodd and the other Democrats are mostly to blame. But I don’t think Bush & co. pushed hard enough to change things. And I do wonder, once the Republicans win big in November, whether they will DEMAND changes … or will it be the same old, same old?! đ
Good clip and letâs hope Glen Beck and Hannity play it often.
If Barney Frank had been a commercial Bank CEO making that kind of renunciation to the Secretary of the Treasury and rejecting warnings by the head of the Federal Reserve; then heâd quite possibly be in jail now. But instead we have Frank and Chris Dodd designing 2300 pages of financial reform which still has no mention of the role of Fannie and Freddie. In other words the foxes are still in with the chickens.
Moreover the key driver to all this mess was the Community Reinvestment Act. What should happen to get to the bottom of this is an enquiry and the calling up under of oath of all the Bank VPs of the CRA. Over the years banks had to install those departments as a buffer zone to handle the shakedown of ACORN. It is quite possible that what an enquiry would discover is that the shakedown behaviour was not dissimilar to the Black Panthers at voting booths.
Someday we will get the whole story. A lot depends on November results.
Barney Frank is a walking, talking disaster.
History will not be kind as his legacy as the promoter of the housing market collapse can’t be kept under wraps once he is out of power.
Farney Brank is a firt bag daggot
…but if you ask a liberal (or especially if you don’t ask them,) they’ll tell you it was bush’s deregulation that was to blame.
There is nothing on earth more unthinking that a liberal.
…in a nut shell. great clip.
It amazes every day that Barney Frank (& Chris Dodd) are not in a federal penitentiary.
That was then, this is now .
[ âI hope by next year weâll have abolished Fannie and Freddie,â he (B Frank) said. Remarkable. And he went on to say that âit was a great mistake to push lower-income people into housing they couldnât afford and couldnât really handle once they had it.â He then added, âI had been too sanguine about Fannie and Freddie.â]
His ‘mistake’ should be forgiven only with jail time.
Speaking of jail time – we have Baghdad Biden declaring that the economy is ‘just great’ and the stimulus has saved a zillion jobs – while the GDP is 1.6 and on life support. Meanwhile, Obama …goes golfing.
We should be honest, no party has 100% angel wings and the other 100% devil horns. Heavy borrowing with subsequent spending on frivolous programs is how politicians outcompete to win.
The real problem is with the electorate who accept this behaviour, and in fact demand it.
It’s the same argument that I’ve heard re Obama – Obama as one person isn’t the problem – but the fact that such a vacuous and unknown person can be elected to the highest office in the land reflects serious issues with the populace.
I think you all are missing the point. Go visit Proud to Be Canadia and see what this is about.
Erik Larsen – I see your point about the ‘serious issues with the populace’ but I’m very hesitant to pin the blame on them. That’s what we do when we say that rejection of the Obamamosque is ‘islamophobic’; that the US ‘deserved’ 9-11; that rejection of illegal immigration is ‘racist’. That is – pinning the blame on the people is too slick and reductionist.
People are open to reason and facts but are also open to emotions and fiction. That combination enables us to invent airplanes and computers. And also, dream up other things, such as utopian societies.
The blame goes to the power brokers, in this instance, the Democratic Party, and a radical set of that party, who wanted to insert a statist infrastructure into the US. They saw their chance to take over the govt within a war-weary and tired electorate…and picked a charismatic empty-headed charmer as their front man.
This puppet, was someone who was intellectually shallow and ignorant, lazy and uncurious about national structures and functions, but skilled at manipulative enchantment would smile and wave..and who, above all, was black and would therefore, be above scrutiny…for to scrutinize would be, as Krauthammer points out, a racist act.
The public was entranced, actually naive and yes, filled with energy and hope – as all nation builders should be – and voted for him. They are now waking up to reality. It’s a hard reality to accept, for it even suggests that one’s ‘racist’ view that Obama was an empty fraud was, quite possibly, correct. It’s a hard reality to accept because it suggests that utopia doesn’t exist.
The fact that these same people moved spontaneously into the Tea Parties, with massive turnouts for limited govt, fiscal responsibility and an adherence to the Constitution – speaks to the intelligence and fortitude of ‘the people’. The fact that so many are now speaking out, are rejecting the statist agenda of the Obama Gang, are criticizing his constant misinformation, manipulation – and his endless vacations and parties – that says something positive about the people.
Sure, utopians are going to stick to their utopia with tenacity, but others are sticking to facts and reality.
Unfortunately this is not a revelation, it’s just that the attention span of Americans is too short, and the phrase “Bush drove us into the ditch” is about as deep as the average Joe can get.
In my view, it’s analogous to suicide (financially speaking); Americans turning a blind eye to the facts. How many hard working people have seen there home and personal equity go in the dump because of the irresponsibility of their neighbours? If too many people in your neighbourhood default on their mortgages it kills the value of all homes in the area.
It’s likely that America’s gotten to the point where more people are taking from the government than giving; therefore, enabling the government to continue on this wealth eviscerating path they’ve been on for over a decade. Combine this with an economically illiterate and or intellectually lazy middle class and watch-out and hang-on as the rug gets pulled from beneath you.
Why else isn’t there rioting in the street? I know if I bought a home for 300k and now its worth 100k because of a surplus of housing in my area, I’d be livid!
What JLC said!
And I make no apologies for saying so.
Here is the famous Bush quote from a speech on corporate responsibility and ethics on July 9, 2002:
“At this moment, America’s highest economic need is higher ethical standards, standards enforced by strict laws and upheld by responsible business leaders.”
Bush was right. The US failure is all about ethics. He had problems from the democrats and the republicans in bringing in laws which could have averted the current problems.
Probably the most famous ethicist is Albert Schweitzer who said, to paraphrase from German:
“Ethical Values are those values that improve the individual, others, and society as a whole.”
Which is true. You want to succeed but you don’t screw other people or your country to do it. It does not matter about laws, etc., you just don’t do it. When you do do it, laws come into being because it is understood that many people are not ethical. That is why we have all these laws.
Louise is right – this is about the Blogsphere exposing the the scam that is the liberal-elite/ruling class. Doing the job that the media refuses to do.
âCombine this with an economically illiterate and or intellectually lazy middle class and watch-out and hang-on as the rug gets pulled from beneath youâ
Indiana H, there is lots of blame to go around including the middle class who did not want to hear what Bush and McCain were saying because it would end the joy ride of their housing equity rising . But thatâs pretty human to want the good times to continue. Hence even the GOP Congressmen would not listen to Bush/McCain on the need to tighten the taps on Fannie and Freddie and to shut down the Community Reinvestment Act which caused moral hazards like subprime lending.
Itâs pretty hard to pin this on the middle class when these perpetrators still arenât outed and awareness is not yet part of the general knowledge of the population. Why is that?
How did this escape the scrutiny of other institutions that we rely on to make our democracy work? And we know the answer to that: the MSM and academia were not warning people to be careful; they muzzled the informationâŠexcept for FOX. So until the democratization of the media and diversity of thought takes place on our campuses we will not have the necessary dissenting views exposed..but that will come as evidenced by this posting of the old YouTube.
Old news.
The informed people have known all along that Frank, Ried and Pelosi are responsible for this entire economic meltdown.
Even SNL did a skit showing this fact, but the Dems had it scrubbed.

Nice dig at the end about Obama not voting on the McCain bill. That he would not vote – that he smelled trouble with the situation down the road and did not want to be in record as having supported fannie and Freddie (and frank and Dodd) – is an indictment of his lack of true leadership abilities.
Americans more and more are discovering what a fraud he is. And not a moment too soon.

Honestly, I’m speaking to the overall issue of an undereducated or interested population that is too absorbed in their own lives to step-back and see the big picture.
So how did we get to the point where we can’t trust the media, the public service and academia ?In my view, it’s the apathy of the population that has allowed the condition of our country, and most of itâs institutions to deteriorate to the point where the wheels fall-off. Instead of protecting our society bit by bit, we instead chose to forego maintenance along the way; and now weâre left with a lemon. I believe that for most public and some private institutions the rot is too far along to salvage the dieing carcass. The apparent solution to our societal woes seems to be a move to an extreme libertarian type society where we must fend for ourselves; or as someone said (perhaps Kate) â a good famineâ.
Further to your point though, the middle class DID have access to the internet and FOX News the same as you and I; so your argument doesnât hold much water if youâre blaming the MSM and academia for everyoneâs laziness/ignorance. I would bet that many Americanâs who were surprised by BOâs socialist beliefs and the radical nature of the Democratic Party, can name each and every one of Larry Kingâs wives, know who Jessica Simpson is dating, and want Brad to go back to Jenn.
