I remember Steyn saying years ago, pace Evelyn Waugh, that journalism is what you landed in when you failed at everything else. It was an occurence befitting flowers, a get well card, and perhaps buying the poor victim a drink. Like Breakfast at Denny’s, its not a place you go; its a place you end up.
