  1. Reminds me of Chavez’s efforts to make food more affordable in Venezuela by making it impossible for food distributors to make a profit. A sure-fire way to empty the shelves.

  2. Yes, who is John Galt? I have heard rumours but nothing concrete. But then I live up in this little valley that hasn’t much contact with the outside world.

  3. Typical socialist methodology. Demonize, regulate and tax the life out of the corporations and then take them over. This method worked out so well in the Soviet Bloc. The end result, have your citizens stand in lineups for hours just for basic necessities and if they complain, arrest them and send them to re-education camps.

  4. Guvmints . . . so much smarter than the rest of us.
Wanna bet they think it is a “Progressive” policy ?

  5. I’m diabetic. In my little “lifesaver” bag, I have glucagon tablets; if I were to take my insulin, and then skip a meal, with the result that my blood sugar went too low, I would try to eat a couple of these. They are basically sugar.
Suggested substitutes for glucagon are hard candies, a spoonful of honey, or a small glass of orange juice. You only need the drug when you are so hypoglycemic that you can’t swallow, which is extremely rare. I’ve had diabetes for a decade, and never been so hypo that I’ve needed a shot; in fact, there’s only been a few occasions (

  6. Hey, I pay for my son’s insulin…
    It looks like Atlas shrugged.
Maybe those Greeks are praying to the wrong gods, evidently even Apollo is turning a deaf ear.

  7. When they’re done rioting in Athens about the dastardly Israelis, no doubt they’ll start in rioting about glucagon.
Wait until the Greek government starts controlling the price of pop and Coke pulls out. Then you’re going to see some serious sh1t.

  8. I find it interesting that the whole concept of logic and reason was developed by the ancient Greeks. Western civilization eventually ran with it, prospered big time.
We saw the beginning of the end if about the time of Ayn Rand’s philosophical writings about her Objectivist ideals which is based on Socrates.
    John Galt is Socrates.
Man has that gene pool been degraded.

  9. Greece is what happens when you use socialism to create an entitled class. You die in their stead for entitlements that they have absconded with, because their so much superior to you.
As the pyramid scam breaks up its the folks at the bottom whop perish.

  10. I first read Atlas Shrugged as a teenager in the mid 1960’s and thought how idiotic this novel was. There is no way that people would stand for politicians destroying our way of life. There is no way the public would lie down and die without a fight. A few months ago I reread it and thought My God it happened. Not to the extent in the book mind you, at least not yet.
Who is John Galt? We are and we had better start remembering it soon.

  11. Athens: funny that the “cradle of democracy” took so long to complete the alpha to omega trip.
I think Canada and the US are on fast forward.

  12. Greece is just another example of what happens when socialist entitlement overcomes economic reality. Perhaps it’s a good lesson for Canada.

  13. KevinB….nothing against you being diabetic…but isn’t your suggestion of free needles and drugs all ready being tried in Vancouver?

  14. Read in the Speccie that German taxpayers are pretty upset on hearing that Greek gov’ment workers retire at 53 Y.O.A. No kiddin”!

  15. Justthinkin:
I surmise you were trying to be funny, but I wasn’t aware they were giving away smack at Insite in Vancouver (it wouldn’t surprise me if they were; I’m just not aware of it!).
When I was first moved from pills to insulin to manage my diabetes, I was given a pair of injection kits gratis from NovoNordisk. No fools they, this locks me into their insulin cartridges for the foreseeable future. But even the cost of pre-mixed insulin isn’t that bad. It would be about $2/day if I were paying for it; since it’s mostly covered by insurance, it costs me about $4/month.
But seriously – if they can provide me with 5 vials (about 60 doses) of pre-mix insulin for $60, which includes the pharmacist’s dispensing fee, $100 for a single dose of glucagon seems a bit excessive. I seriously doubt they’re losing money on this, and I think this is more posturing to prevent all countries from reducing prices paid for cash cow drugs like insulin.

Like Rae, May, McGuinty and other fools.

  17. Germany is slowly discovering that the Canadian way, isn’t all it’s cracked up to be.
This equalization thingy, where the haves prop up the have-nots, looks good for places like Quebec, but usually hurts the so called haves.
Even worse for the Germans…they got suckered into it..(the E.U.) without being told they would be the banker with all the money but no strings to pull!
The world is now eyeing our equalization program, they like what they see and want in.
They’ve been trying for some time now, Kyoto, Copenhagen, bank tax..they’ll NEVER give yup.

  18. Can someone give me a quick explanation of this John Galt thing I keep hearing about? Honestly now. And I don’t want to check wiki ’cause I don’t trust that source.
I remember watching some hour-long interview with Ayn Rand about her made-up ideas and it just made me want to cry from boredom at hearing so many the-ancient-Greeks-thought-of-it-first ideas. Maybe her writing was better.

  19. John Galt is of course best known in Canada as the senior partner in the prominent Cambridge firm of Galt, Preston & Hespeler…
