  1. I can see only one problem with all this hydrocarbon wealth . . . you can’t see any leaking deep sea wells from anywhere in Saskatchewan . . .
Let’s hope all this doesn’t interfere with all the uranium & potash under Saskatchewan.
    That would be a pity.

  2. Run that pipeline west, not south.
Unless of course, there is a revolution across the border, then screw the west thing.

  3. Are they actually comparing the hypothesis of AGW with The Big Bang and the Theory of Evolution? It sure would help their credibility if they could explain how this untestable hypothesis could ever be proved wrong. After all:
    Too hot=AGW
    Too cold=AGW
    Drought=AGW
    Floods=AGW
and so forth. In fact, it seems that any deviation from some dubiously contrived average is proof of AGW. If a theory can not be falsified, be definitely linked to actual observations, or correctly predict future events then it is not science, it is philosophy – the equivalent of String (or M)Theory.
It is hard for me to believe there was a time that I enjoyed reading science magazines and watching science documentaries. Now, few can refrain from constant moralizing and lecturing. Even if they can manage to restrain themselves, they inevitably include a horrible human bit that is either in the last couple paragraphs or last 10 minutes of the program. It reminds me of a church revival where the congregation feels compelled to say “Hallelujah” or “Praise the Lord” after the sermon.

  4. Sorry, wrong thread.
BTW, I think diamond country is in the Prince Albert/Melfort/Nipawin region. It is the wrong type of carbon for fuel but still somewhat valuable.

  5. I don’t give a damn about any map that doesn’t have Weyburn on it.

  6. As a former Estevan resident, I have to laugh at hudson duster. 🙂
Weyburn should be on all maps, so you can plan your trip to avoid it.

  7. LC Bennett
Yep a lotta of us have noticed that religous ferver….fanatics…
    Fanatic—some-one who won’t change his mind….or the subject….
Saskatchewan’s energy resources have not been extensively exploited except around Estavin….

Yeah that revolution thing….inevitable…but the west pipeline is necessary for political leverage…for now at least.
Let us hope that that revolution is a velvet one….a vain hope it seems….
La RAZA has now injected a new dimension on the matter.

  8. Sweet! Saskatchewan looks to be secure for cash flow.
Just don’t vote the liberals or NDP, & you ought to be singing while dancing for a long time.

You’ll dance about as long as a wire transfer takes to go from Regina to Ottawa.

  9. I remember hearing that the T.Douglas government forced private resource companies to hand over their resource maps. If true, there may be quite a few more discoveries in Saskatchewan. Perhaps even one or two more Bakkens.
BTW, Weyburn is nice and all but it is seriously lacking in an attraction like a Prairie Queen sized drag-line.
I didn’t know there was BC diamonds, chutzpahticular . I wonder if they will be allowed to mine them (you know with that green infestation in Vancouver).

  10. “…we pretty much have everything the rest of the world wants.”
When I read that line (and a few others that preceded it), I thought to myself: “You Canadians need a strong military”. But then I wondered, “Are there enough Canadians to support a military/industrial complex robust enough to defend what you’ve been blessed with?” While I’m certainly not qualified to answer that question, I’m inclined to think not.
If I were you, I wouldn’t trust anyone… not the US, not China, not anyone. If this report is accurate, Canada has a future resembling that of a pretty girl who has somehow wandered into a men’s prison.

  11. LC Bennett, I was wrong; I got my locations mixed up. The diamond mining is taking place in the NWT (the Diavik mine, for instance.)
Mining all but dried up here when the NDP were in power.

  12. The future’s so bright Saskabushies should wear shades. All you have to do is cap and trade your resident carbon commie cult and Alberta will envy your prosperity.

  13. Hopefully the oil sands that are here in Sask. remain unexploited and dormant for many years to come, thereby saving the surrounding environment and ecosystems from being polluted and destroyed. Some of the oil sands are on First Nations land and thank god that the desire is not there to develop these. Another Fort Mac. we do not need.

  14. T
Yeah first nations have no desire to let others with the know how and ambition do the work on “Their” land while they sit back and collect royalties/rent/percentage of jobs(skill set be dammed)/profit sharing.
    It’ll never happen.

Yeah but we do have a robust enough military/industrial complex but the problem is the political climate. With a population of 9,000,000 or so Canada had a million in uniform, ended with the 4th largest airforce and navy….and cranked out a lot of weaponry and munitions.
But except for a splinter of anarchists in Winterpeg and Quebec, the population was patriotic and had a demographic profile heavy in military age people….without a 3rd world 5th column….
In this day and age, raising an army takes too long—the wars are over too fast—
Defending an area the size of Canada with a Brigade sized establishment is not realistic. As Gen McKenzie stated—the entire Mobile Command(army) could be seated in Maple Leaf Gardens.
We lack any numbers of veterans and our militia resembles a “boy’s brigade”.
Our only hope is that the US resolves it’s civil war in time to interveen.

  16. How are we EVER going to get to “peak oil” if you guys keep finding more oil.

  17. My brother was working in western SK in 1971. They were surveying a 100 well project around Kindersley, just before the provincial election. The night before the election, all the crews were told to take the day off, and wait for the results. The next morning, when it was apparent the NDP had taken power, word came down the project was cancelled. Everyone went back to Alberta, and didn’t really go back to SK, in any real number, for 20 years. Governments may not create jobs, but they sure can kill them.

  18. “the surrounding environment and ecosystems from being polluted and destroyed”
    Really?
T, you should note that the pristine natural environments that have been totally destroyed are likely right where you and many environazies live!
Have you ever looked down on Toronto or any other city from the air?? All those wires, pavement, cement, noise, garbage, digging…the planting of un-natural vegetation?
    Its disgusting!
No no, don’t get me wrong, its not the alterations that the urban masses have imposed on mother earth (that you claim to worship) but the fact that you sanctimoniously insist on telling everyone else how to live and the limits on how much more we advance mans “dominion” over the earth.
    Your a hypocrite!

  19. A little more history about Oil in Saskatchewan and Alberta. The rig that hit the Leduc Oil Find was named Leduc #1. Before it came to Edmonton it was drilling in – you guessed it- Saskatchewan. The government at the time took a hostile approach to oil and gas so the owners packed up their rig and moved west. So we in Alberta are for ever grateful to the past Leaders of this fair Province. That said we welcome another non Socialist Government to join in our Quest to supply needed resources to the rest of the world
