Irony isn’t lost on retired CIA general counsel John Rizzo
Meanwhile, all we have in Canada is all detainee abuse, torture, all the time (except that’s not the real interest). By someone else. Maybe leading to an election. Go figure.

And don’t play any loud music. It might upset their delicate sensibilities and make them do something that would be your fault.
I say give Paul”soft-arse”Szabo a weapon, and drop him off outside Kandahar.
F&%king pr*k!
Funny how the liberals & dippers are are pissied up about what happens in Afghan jails and they never touch the subject that most disturbed our soldiers on duty in Afghanistan . . . the Man-Love Thursday adventures with the base-boys.
Now politically correct to go after them for that part of Afghan/mulsin life.
What’s the problem here? We’re comparing torture and killing. But it’s killing done by someone else; someone we don’t know, and don’t care to know because they are all too dumb to get into college; and killing is done over there, in one of those two-bit countries we can’t find on a map; or it’s done by dropping bombs from 50K feet. Now its done by drones. Nice people don’t kill people: drones kill people. All very impersonal; our hands still look clean; we can preserve our self-image as nice. Nothing’s more important than nice, right? And look: Obama’s sending the drones, and he’s nice, isn’t he? But torture is up close and personal; and it happens in our own back yard. Makes us look bad; not nice, don’t ya know. And it doesn’t work! Jack Bauer said so. Last night! If you want to make torture OK, design a drone to do it. At 50K feet. Just like they do to get that nice meat we see in the grocery store.
Now, if were torture v. something really bad, like rape or racial profiling or, …gulp… offending someone, that would be different. Do they have drones for that?
Howzabout they fly some drones along the Mexican border…
The threat of an election on this issue is a bluff. Once you cross Wellington Street in front of Parliament Hill, no one gives a sh*t that a few Afghan detainees got roughed up by their own countrymen. Iffy knows it, Taliban Jack knows it and so does the Bloc Head. As long as Harper is seen to be reasonable in trying to meet the demands of Parliament for information, there is no danger of defeat in a Commons vote.
This whole issue is cooked up by koombaya lefties who just can’t abide the idea of men with guns going out shooting people, not even bad-asses, in the name of Canada. Love and peace, man.
JMD,
You are correct. Which is why the oppo is trying so hard to show the government and/or military knew, as in undeniably knew that torture was happening…not suspected, not likely but knew first hand.
Without that prrof they have a damp squib….with proof, they have something Canadians would likely find distasteful and objectionable, but less so than if Canadians were themsleves doing the bad stuff.
I dont think they have demonstrated it yet. I also think it is going to be enormously difficult for them to demonstrate that they did.
However, who knows what the military hasnt revealed.
JMD says it well. Hopefully Harper calls their bluff. This whole issue is about Taliban Jack and Mr. Iffy attempting to find a wedge issue.
Drones have their place, but so does direct intelligence gathering.
The lame street media is complicit in this charade, just yesterday the local rag here in Vancouver quoted a Nanos poll revealing that most Canadians believe torture was used and that high ranking officials were aware it was going on.Even Mr. Harper probably knew it went on to say, more liberal pollsters polling liberals I assume, more likely the average joe couldn’t give a damn.
The Opposition paarties paint us a very grim picture of their devotion towards terrorist groups. In fact
Layton rallies behind HAMAS
Deni Coderre supports Hezbollah
Half of the liberal party attended a vigil for a TAMIL-LTTE-TIGER TERRORIST LEADER
The liberals, ndp bloc all support the TALIBAN.
Canadians will, without a doubt in mind be controlled by these groups throught the OPPOSITION PARTIES.
The Taliban watches CBC to hear news of themselves.
Women girls no matter who or where they are from are just used as a scapegoat by the opposition parties. Proof is. Afghan women and girls have been killed, murdered raped violated stripped of their rights to even exist in society by he Taliban and those BASTARDS in the OPPOSITION PARTIES scream ‘bloody-murder’ when their own kind ‘taliban detainees’ is being touched.
The OPPOSITION PARTIES will get the medicine they deserve and so will the media then and only will they ever regret what they had done on this present date.
One day canada will fall into the wrong hands which I am afraid is heading that way; not even the media can alert you nor warn you on television because they themselves are done the moment the opposition parties surrendered our nation to their terrorist groups while the media sat idly by watching the grim future unfolds.
Ask yourselves a question: why is the media so determine to bring down this conservative government for the coalition parties that hate their own country?
“…why is the media so determine to bring down this conservative government…”
Payola?
The Conservative Party wants an election – the sooner the better. If only the opposition would cooperate.
“We stand by women who are abuse” wail the OPPOSITION PARTIES and media everyday.
What the opposition meant ” we stand by terrorists who abuse women and girls.
Now that sounds more like it.
Anyone wanting an election over this trumped up charge, I say bring it on. I am sick and tired of all this fake compassion and frankly I have yet to meet any Canadian who gives a shit about it. We are not there as colonisers which means the normal procedure is to turn the captured terrorists over to the Afghan authorities.
I have to seriously question all these so-called polls considering I have yet to find anyone here in agreement with their claims.
The opposition wants to bring down this government. Because they are stuck in the last century. Its almost as if they are walking down the tracks ear buds on, music blasting totally oblivious to the impending disaster about to overtake them. If they had the collective intelligence of any two citizens who are fully awake they would use their time and energy to raise awareness, so we would not need to repeat history again, truly fn sad.
Lefties confuse me. You mean that it’s okay to kill a hundred million unborn babies but causing discomfort to a handful of terrorists should be a major concern, large enough to bring down a government, if not a crime? I can’t decide if they’re merely irrational or somehow evil?

“Somali pirates disappear into mysterious Beria Triangle.”

I agree with JMD. I have yet to discuss this with anyone who actually gives a crap.
Desperate times need desperate measures…
There is a certain merit to the alleged Russian policy of dealing with pirates.
“One man’s death is a tragedy….a thousand deaths is a statistic.”
Yosef Dzhugashvilli
sasquatch, that was a great comment. I have mixed feelings about the alleged Russian policy of dealing with pirates.
On one hand, the alleged justice served will negate tying up the HRC and UN courts for years and maybe give pause to other wannabe pirates.
On the other hand, the memory of great uncles and second cousins getting Russian bullets in the back of the head during the 1930s leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
Jen: “Ask yourselves a question: why is the media so determine[d] to bring down this conservative government for the coalition parties that hate their own country?”
I’m clear — that is, my spidey sense tells me — that it has something to do with Chretien, Martin, Mo Strong, and Power Corporation in China and LPC “interests,” shall we say, which will be lucrative ONLY if the LPC are in power and able to access the treasury — a situation which has always benefited the Canadian media.
Also, if the Harper CPC ever gets a majority, all the LPC scandals — real, genuine, smelly, and nasty ones — get exposed and real scoundrels get prosecuted.
I can’t imagine the Liberal$ or their scumba … er … friends in the media wanting this to ever happen.
Ken (Kulak)
As I said a certain merit. It depends on whose ox is getting gored.
Dzhugashvili is not one of my role models.
As a Finn opined he was perhaps Finland’s greatest ally during the winter war. For political reasons he deployed your countrymen (Ukrainians) rather than more effective, northerly acclimated personel, lead by commisars rather than officers….then disappeared the survivors of the RAAT Road snafu.
As far as the Predator casualties….eggs get scambled at times….
There is a certain merit to the alleged Russian policy of dealing with pirates.
Indeed, they are following in the finest traditions of the Royal Navy.
These days, if the RN were to encounter pirates, they would have to take them back to Britain so they could apply for refugee status.
The West has left this problem for the Russians to take care of.
babt, you answer seems so much more… refined, than plain old payola. ~:D
However I must disagree with you about the CPC majority and Liberal$ finally getting what’s coming to them. Ain’t going to happen.
Like you I wish it would, but unless something major changes in the soul of this country it’ll be water under the bridge.
Because someday the CPC will lose a majority. And Liberal scumba… er, politicians have -really- long memories. These clowns remember Diefenbaker.
sasquatch, I know from your previous comments on other issues that Dzhugashvili is not one of your role models. Hopefully the Russians are rejoining the challenge to preserve western civilization after wasting 70 years trying to destroy it.
randall g puts his finger on one of the collective western nation’s suicidal illnesses that will cost us dear if not reversed. This being the lack of desire to protect and nourish 800 years of liberal democracy.
Jen; Well said. Thank-you.
