Now Is The Time at SDA When We Juxtapose!

1988 – 1990: Toronto City Councillor, Jack Layton, and his wife, Olivia Chow, who was a Toronto School Board Trustee, lived in subsidized housing. Layton went on to become the leader of the federal NDP and Chow went on to become the Mayor of Toronto.

October 2026: The NDP Premier of B.C., David Eby, with a combined family income of $600,000, took advantage of the $10/day subsidized daycare, thus preventing a truly needy family from doing the same. This program is heavily subsidized by the provincial government.

  1. When you are on the team of collectivist dystopia, apparatchiks are on the side of the angels to the incurious grazers and party faithful. They are allowed their Dachas.

  2. This is just grotesque.
Ethically, this is the Blindness of the BOOJEE Champagne Socialists.
He might as well show up at the Food Bank too.
There’s no means testing there either………..
The NDP chattering class is trying their best to defend this on SM.
They’re getting absolutely mobbed and demolished in overwhelming numbers.
I don’t like the $10 daycare program at all.
We paid OUR way, struggling along as new parents. We did not VACAY. We didn’t have newish vehicles. We ate at home and rarely went out. We didn’t beg for handouts.
Today’s young parents don’t sacrifice and just can’t do without granite countertops, a Bimmer in the d/w, and annual jaunts to Hawaii/Disneyland. Very BOOJEE of them.

  3. The death of curiosity that has afflicted Western society has been accompanied by the demise of shame.

  4. Apparently his children were already in that daycare when it was converted to a $10 per day place, and he has given a couple of ‘donations’ to them to compensate for his higher income. He’s still taking a spot away from a family who really does need it, though…

  5. This isn’t an exception to the rule. This is exactly what was revealed in Quebec’s 10 dollar per day daycare, that preceded the Canadian program. Richer, well connected parents disproportionately gained access to limited subsidized daycare spaces. They use their connections to bump their kids up on the waiting list.

This doesn’t just happen in daycare, it also happens in most taxpayer funded, universal program like healthcare and, as mentioned, subsidized housing.

What it means is that average middle class taxpayers are subsidizing considerably richer families in Canada.

  7. When voters are surly, and as a general principle learned in the military, never complain and never explain.

Eby just failed badly, again. The man has worse political judgement that Justin Trudeau.

The political tremors in BC have just begun with Quebec voters removing their incumbent government with not a single elected MNA. giving power to, not Liberals, but separatists, with a Conservative breakthrough.

It seems voters’ blind trust and infinite patience does indeed have a limit. Can’t wait for the BC leaders’ debate.

  8. Can we get city council to remove Layton’s name off the fairy terminal, and put it, and a heritage designation on 787 Dundas St West, where the cops caught him naked with a massage attendant.

Of course he plead ignorance, and never went back, but that doesn’t mean he wasn’t at other ones.

  9. Socialism only works when every one contributes to the common good, EVERYONE CONTRIBUTES!!!!
When one person realizes that he can enjoy the fruits of every one else’s labour without contributing that is the end of socialism. One leads to another and another and soon there are legions that are on the take led by politicians that learned early how to game the system. We are now seeing the last nails in the coffin of socialism which has been brought about by too many people taking and not giving for far too long. The problem is that when socialism fails as it has today there are too many politicians that do not want to lose their benefits and those politicians will implement communism. Communism works after the failure of socialism only until the state-forced labour of the producers, under the guise of taxes, becomes so onerous that the producers rise up and anarchy reigns. We are about to see the rise of anarchy, just look at what has happened in the UK and the rest of Europe. Look at Canada with its Elboz Up morons thinking that the Carney carnival is going to bestow billions of dollars on national sovereignty programs financed by soon to be increasing taxes, stolen from the producers, all in the name of uniting the country under the National Flag. The same people and leaders that are bent on destroying the nation. Multi-culturalism, DEI, Christian compassion, post national state, yah-da yah-da yah-da.

  10. I’m just glad David Eby (salary $227,000) and his medical doctor wife, living in the luxurious and exclusive Point Grey neighbourhood of Vancouver, can get the kind of cheap, subsidized child care that struggling parents like them fully deserve.

  11. There’s 7 $10 a day daycares in point gray in Vancouver. It’s one of the wealthiest areas in Canada.
