Funny eh, you can’t get a major airline to pay for a broken guitar, but just file a complaint with our Gov’e that your Syrian accomodations weren’t exactly 5-star, and you’ll walk away with $10 million.
So if that’s the way this gov’t is going to handle intelligence sharing, I’d say it’s time for a bit of, er, discretion.
Re your linked-to blog post, it IS staggering that Amir Attaran, who, as you note, “has a long history of making allegations, later found to be unsupported, about the Canadian troops” can just fly in someone like Ahmadshah Malgarai – a guy of unknown provenance – to make a series of grave accusations (“the military used the NDS as subcontractors for abuse and torture”) and then have the media instantly elevate the stranger to the status of an oracle.
Malgarai and Attaran are treated as credible simply because certain partisans see them as credible tools. Notice how the ever-grinning Attaran is always given the benefit of the doubt, and portrayed as having no motive other than his abiding concern, as a “human rights lawyer,” for the cause of justice for all humanity?
Watching him hover over Malgarai, he looks to me more like a lawyerly version of Malcolm McLaren. Here’s the real tip-off to me: if someone is genuinely and deeply troubled at a moral/conscience level about some violation of human rights, they tend not to look like they’re fighting to repress a shit-eating grin, nor give the impression that they’re eagerly twiddling their thumbs just below the screen.

Exactly, and that’s the polite way of putting it – the word “wonders” graciously grants a degree of plausible doubt about the matter.

Canada’s SigInt capabilities are second to none and we have been sharing all intel with the US since we schooled their OSS(the forerunner of the CIA) in spycraft and intelligence gathering at the US’s belated entrance into WWII.
