Tony Blair’s Britain

Where the foxes caper unmolested, the government packs confiscates your school lunch, and the question facing British voters today is why anyone wants the job?

Whoever wins the election must make sorting out the public finances the top priority, the European commission warned on the eve of the poll, as it predicted the British budget deficit would swell this year to become the biggest in the European Union, overtaking even Greece.
The commission’s spring economic forecasts put the UK deficit for this calendar year at 12% of GDP, the highest of all 27 EU nations and worse than the Treasury’s own forecasts.

Polls close at 2100 GMT . You can follow election results later today with the Sky News election map.

  1. I rather suspect it will be a “David Cameron Britain” by the time the polls are counted.
There will however be “Tony Blair government debt” for quite some time yet.

Wow. Seems as though Fibber McGuinty and Cuddles Charest have some growing up to do if they want to join this select crew.

  4. An interesting article by that chap in “TIMESONLINE”, though the author seem to have dislike for the rest of Europe other than visiting now and then.
    Among other things mentioned is:
“The Belgians worry that they will one day be taken over by Muslims and that the green flag of Islam will fly over Brussels, although why this would be worse than a country ruled by Belgians has not been explained.”
It’s understandable that the guy does not like some other tribe. One can argue without any effort though that however bad the Belgians are in his opinion, they are better, hands down, then “Islamic Fiefdom of Belgium.”

  5. The answer to the question is.Global Elite will bestow a certain amount of prestige, honor and wealth upon anybody who is willing to act as a puppet at their every beck and call. There are other questions for me.Dont these people ever look at themselves in the mirror and say,my God I have forsaken all others for my own selfish interests. They must believe they answer to higher authority and the masses are to stupid to realize the course that is intended.Incremental Progression has been employed to maximum effect on Europeans for decades.Another question is,what has happened to a once proud and defiant British People.I know Nigel Farage is there trying to wake people up,I doubt the dumbed down British people even care that he would do for them, what they refuse to do for themselves. If you want to see what it looks like for guy to stand up to authority and tell it just like it is,Google Nigel Farage tells off Von Rompuy. It brings a tear to my eye every time I watch it.

  6. Meanwhile in not bankrupt enough, morally or fiscally, California . . .
“George Kiriyama of NBC Bay Area reports:
[Daniel] Galli says he and his friends were sitting at a table during brunch break when the Vice Principal asked two of the boys to remove American flag bandannas that they wearing on their heads and for the others to turn their American flag t-shirts inside-out. When they refused, the boys were ordered to go to the principal’s office.
“They said we could wear it on any other day, but today is sensitive to Mexican Americans because it’s supposed to be their holiday so we were not allowed to wear it today,” Daniel Galli said.”

  7. Can we all say Incremental Progression is being employed as a means to diminish our species.Nutbars from both sides of the political spectrum are only too willing to act out bizzar displays of willing appeasement to any form of personal individuality. We are being trained like circus ponies to Shut Up And Take It.What will it take to for States like Idaho, Montana and Texas to say we have had enough. The constitution of The United States of America is now regarded by Republican and Democrat alike,as a living document whose time has come for revision. We have all arrived at the brink of a long and slippery slope I hope all of you can see who it is who wants you to go first.

  9. ‘Greece at the birth of Western Civilization’ is a good read on the world debtonomy (well it sure as heck isn’t an economy, is it?) over at http://www.groenewegenreport.com/.
Apparently on Greek tax returns only 324 people reported having a swimming pool in their yard in a upscale area. Satellite photos confirmed 16974 pools.
    Can you saw ‘tax evasion’?
And with 1 of every 3 Greeks working for the paper shuffling govts, no small wonder Germany doesn’t want to bail them out.
Add to that early retirement in Greece is/was 57 while Germany raised their full retirement age to 67.
    Athens, we have a problem.

  10. @mikeg
    Hey Mike.
Take a quick look at your keyboard. See the long thing on the near edge of it, below the C, V, B, N, and M keys? That’s called the space bar, and it does____this.
You’re supposed to hit the space bar after the period at the end of every sentence. Like this. The space helps the reader to identify the beginning and end of each sentence, and to process the information contained therein. In fact, back in the pre-Cambrian era, when I took typing in high school, we were told to use a double space at the end of of a sentence. Like this. It really does help with readability, particularly in typescript, which lacks automatic kerning. (I see double spaces render as single spaces in the preview window. Ain’t technology wonderful?)
Wait a moment. (re-reads mikeg’s post) Sorry about that, Mike. Carry on as you were. Makes it easier to scroll over. Have a nice day.

  13. England is becoming Orwell. When all you have is 3 socialist parties to choose from regardless that one of the parties call themselves conservative what hope for that country is there? Plus the people in general seem to be perfectly happy with it. So the people of England are just going to have to suffer more. Perhaps the next election they’ll wake up and vote UKIP.

  14. I dare some nanny to take food out of my kids’ lunchboxes. I just dare them.

  15. Is anyone enthused about this election?
Because I hate New Labour with a passion, really I do, and yet still I am not enthused.
Also, while I have nothing specific against David Cameron, and really I guess I’m even rooting for him, still whenever I see his picture I get this uncharateristic urge to punch him in the face. It’s involuntary, but palpable.
I dunno. Go team, I guess.

  16. Au contraire! Some of my bestest memories (fantasies?) involve catfights…
Oh, and midgets! [but without the fantasy part]. :~D)

  18. This sort of thing began in my middle son’s kindergarten 20 yrs ago in Canada. I was the helper for the week at my sons Kindergarten. At circle/snack time the teacher asked all the wee kindergartens to take out their snacks and place them in front of them. She then pointed to each category of the Canada Food guide one at a time and asked each student to stand up if they had an item in their snack from that food group. It was explained that the more food groups you had the better, and that you needed several food groups to be healthy. Some of the children were able to only stand once. Others many times. It was clear that some children felt left out. This was not lunch as back then kindergarten was a half day affair -it was snack time. I remember thinking thank goodness I packed a variety of snacks-I had a real picky eater. If I had simply given him a banana and yogurt, he would have only stood once or twice while other children stood 5-6 times. Then about a month later we parents received a note from her stating that we were packing to many items for snack and they were not being eaten. Gee, I wonder why – I’m sure the other parents did not want their children thinking they were somehow being deprived of nutrition and health either.
