  1. 1. Instead of you, say thou or thee (and instead of y’all, say ye).
    2. Rhymed couplets are all the rage.
    3. Men are Sirrah, ladies are Mistress, and your friends are all called Cousin.
    4. Instead of cursing, try calling your tormenters jackanapes or canker-blossoms or poisonous bunch-back’d toads.
    5. Don’t waste time saying “it,” just use the letter “t” (’tis, t’will, I’ll do’t).
    6. Verse for lovers, prose for ruffians, songs for clowns.
    7. When in doubt, add the letters “eth” to the end of verbs (he runneth, he trippeth, he falleth).
    8. To add weight to your opinions, try starting them with methinks, mayhaps, in sooth or wherefore.
    9. When wooing ladies: try comparing her to a summer’s day. If that fails, say “Get thee to a nunnery!”
    10. When wooing lads: try dressing up like a man. If that fails, throw him in the Tower, banish his friends and claim the throne.
You guessed it – ’tis the Bard’s Birthday cousin!!!

  2. In today’s National Post, I noticed a full page ad from General Motors, noting that they had:
1 – payed back all the loans from Canadian governments extended to them during the bailouts,
2 – payed them back with interest, and
3 – paid them back almost five years ahead of schedule.
Gee, almost 12,000 direct jobs saved, and probably as least as many related (dealers, parts, truckers, etc.) at zero net cost to the taxpayer. What a horrible miscalculation.. do Jack Layton and Buzz Hargrove know?

  3. KevinB – I heard the same thing on an ad in a hockey game. I would like the government make a statement if it’s true.

  4. Re: Rag Charukeshi
I remember that kind of music in late night, British black and white late movies we watched on CBC back in the 60’s. We were downstairs, Dad would yell, “OK you guys, it’s late enough, you have school tomorrow.”
The story always seemed to be about the British colonial forces riding into a village in India, the captain fell in love with a beautiful young woman, the rest is history. Today we have 32 movie channels to chose from, , and we fall asleep halfway through.

  5. Mark Steyn on Hewitt:
“Well, you know, one night a couple of weeks ago, Campbell Brown had, I think it was 22,000 people watching. I’ve got friends up in Canada who get bigger readership than that on their daily blogs, with a potential market that is a tenth of the size of Campbell Brown’s.”
    Hmmm.

  6. Guess who the Minister of Education, who developed the Ontario Government’s new and “improved” sex ed curriculum, WAS in January 2010, when it was released (very quietly) to the public?
Ta! Da! ‘No other than the FORMER Education Minister Kathleen Wynne, who is a well know lesbian. She was transferred in January from the Ministry of Education to the less controversial Ministry of Transport, presumably to sever her link with this controversial program.
Even though its implementation has been postponed, it’s still very much an issue. Write, fax, or e-mail:

  7. I have just got my first Time of Use electricity bill and my cost has risen by $76 annually, 12% with new charges coming as Toronto Hydro receives permission from the Liberals to raise rates. In addition to this will be the HST 8% increase in July. As Parker Gallant has pointed out in his excellent article all these increases are not to sustain Hydro as our provincial consumption has gone down but to pay the huge increases in hiring, wages and benefits for Hydro employees.
On Goldhawk’s radio program a couple of days ago rural Ontarians were stating $200 increases.
For the socialist posters when does your blindness and stupidity ever end. Rae almost bankrupted Ontario and another of your socialist breathern, McGuinty, will finish the job.
California has been driven into bankruptcy by its public unions and their control of its politicians.
    http://www.city-journal.org/2010/20_2_california-unions.html
Here is an excerpt. No government can sustain this greed as Greece is finding out.
“Blame Vallejo’s politics, dominated by public-sector unions, for the city’s sorry fiscal situation. “Police and firefighter salaries, pensions and overtime accounted for 74 percent of Vallejo’s $80 million general budget, significantly higher than the state average of 60 percent,” reported a 2009 Cato Institute study. The study highlighted a shocking level of enrichment: pay and benefit packages of more than $300,000 a year for police captains and average firefighter compensation packages of $171,000 a year. Pensions are luxurious: regular public employees can retire at age 55 with 81 percent of their final year’s pay guaranteed, come hell or a stock-market crash. Police and fire officials in Vallejo, as in much of California, can retire at age 50 with 90 percent of their final year’s pay guaranteed, including cost-of-living adjustments for the rest of their lives and the lives of their spouses. And that’s before taking advantage of the common pension-spiking schemes that propel payouts even higher

    “Ash forces Iceland airport closure
Last Updated: Friday, April 23, 2010 | 9:45 AM ET
Airspace over Iceland’s main international airport was shut Friday as shifting winds blew ash from the Eyjafjallajokull volcano west toward the capital of Reykjavik.
The closure marks the first time since the volcano’s April 14 eruption that the airport has been shut.’

  9. Ezra has a very important post up today about a scandalous violation of journalistic ethics at the CBC.
    In a nutshell:
Frank Graves, a five-figure donor to the Liberal party, and advisor to the Liberal party – he suggested to them that they start a “culture war” – “cosmopolitanism versus paroachialism”, etc – is working at the CBC, in effect, and appearing on the CBC “not as a ‘Liberal pollster’ or ‘Liberal strategist’ or ‘Liberal donor’ or ‘Liberal’, but as the CBC’s trustworthy, neutral, reliable, independent analyst, who cares only about enlightening viewers.”
    Ezra asks,

“Could you imagine if the CBC were to hire a Tory strategist as their chief Parliamentary correspondent — while secretly allowing him to continue to work for the Conservatives, and donate thousands upon thousands of dollars to them?

“It’s too absurd to even ask the question.

“I mean, the media positively had a freak-out when it was revealed that a CBC reporter who is dating a Tory MP was given spousal travel benefits.

“Graves’s case would be like the Tory MP himself working for the CBC — and not disclosing it.

“I say again, it is fine for partisan hacks to be on TV. But it’s not fine when their hackery is kept secret from the viewers.”

He notes that the CBC’s own code of ethics states that a person identified with a political party or pressure group may be hired only if the person “has resigned his or her functions within the political party or pressure groups and has refrained from public activity in the party or group or in a related capacity for at least two years.” It goes on to say that such public figures can comment on current events “provided that, on the air, there is no ambiguity regarding their status.
Much more at Ezra’s post, be SURE to read the whole thing – we’re talking damning, solid, non-subjective evidence about the CBC’s LPC connections and bias, and as close to a smoking gun on the matter as we’ve ever seen.
This story deserves a massive blogburst and hopefully some coverage in the MSM (Gunter? National Post?) as well. It would be a real shame if this one fell through the cracks.
