Does Star Trek’s USS Enterprise Design Make Sense?
(sorry, link fixed!)

Maybe the link teleported to another day’s entry? Duck Duck Go showed me 7 possibles but I don’t know which was intended.
it makes ‘perfect sense’ despite the IMPOSSIBILITY of such a massive vehicle taking any less the MILLIONS OF YEARS to’ go from A to B ***anywhere*** in the galaxy. jist sayin’ . . .
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaand on the topic of space, space travel, the universe, etc, got news for ya:
the concept of ‘multiverse’ as fanciful as it is is just an ANOMALY of mathematics.
like the erroneous ‘solution’ to the quadratic equation that on rare occasions ‘pops up’
or the notion of square root of -1. stuff like that.
*its merely a quirk of math and science* God is just ‘messing with our head’.
the notion of infinite space? hmmm. ‘space’ goes on ferever BUT does that also mean there is then
an INFINITE amount of matter in it? well where did all THAT come from? ummmm, ‘thats a stretch’.
alternatively, the *existing* universe is magnitudes BIGGER than the *visible* universe but it is still FINITE
and in all likelihood getting bigger. and here’s the catch: it is getting ‘bigger’ within the timeless, dimensionless void that existed BEFORE the universe. and not only that, IT OVERLAPS with the present albeit warped existing 3D space. (guess where all dem experimental subatomic particles originate and vanish to?)
b: explain quantum tunneling? how can quantum particles instantaneously communicate over distance?
(they pop into and out of the overlapping dimensionless realm, the ultimate ‘wormhole’)
it’s God ‘messing with our heads’ again. teasing glimpses of ‘how it all works’.
it is the *one* thing that reconciles ALL OF IT.
-did time have a beginning? (HAD TO)
-was there then some ‘sort of’ Big Bang? (consistent with Genesis)
-regarding when time started, was it the same ‘time’ as
-dimension is created
-incalculable concentration of energy occupying the expanding dimension
-cooling, more expansion, matter precipitates
-when did time start? WHO SAYS IT HAD TO WITH THESE OTHER 3 ????
etc etc.
l far prefer plausible space exploration fiction. Sandra Bullock in ‘Gravity’ was thrilling.
‘probable’? hardly ‘plausible’? you decide.
aka Star Trek = Start Wreck lol
lm working off a new laptop, making progress. there’s a Win10 security upgrade l cant make happen.
but l CAN now view AND post to X.com
have a good week y’all
$599.99 USD.
Should the Enterprise travel to Andromeda Galaxy 2.5 million light years away from Earth, Sulu wouldn’t even take his finger off the Go button and they would be there. The Earth however, would have aged 2.5 million years. The space port they left from would probably be dust.
Back on Earth our property taxes keep going up. No correlation.
Y’know… It does look a lot like my 2004 Sienna, minus the Warp drive. Oh, wait, those were shuttles! Never mind…
I was never a fan of Star Trek. The obvious cheapness of the set always bothered me, even as a wee lad. I literally could not get over it – lol. One of my college apartment roommates was a huge fan (we actually nicknamed him “Trek”, which has stuck to this day). Right now, one of the other college roommates is trying to schedule a visit to the “Star Trek Original Series Set Tour” museum in Ticonderoga, New York later this month, making a long “boys weekend” out of the event – five of us altogether! So far, we are all game except for “Trek”. We think his wife doesn’t like us and so is reluctant to allow him to hang out with us for more than a couple hours. lol.
No. Next question.
Galaxy Quest already did this and the joke was old in 1999.
What’s more interesting is the actual thinking behind the design decisions in Star Trek. Roddenberry considered a number of ideas for the look of the Enterprise, but his guiding principle was “it had to be something a kid could draw”. He knew that kids were going to want to draw pictures of their favourite ship blasting Klingons or swooping through the universe, so it had to be something a kid could draw. A circle, a square, two rectangles. That’s why.
And the turbolifts only exist because the writers wanted to be able to write elevator conversation scenes.
