To the others who also clicked and heaved, I’m glad I’m not the only one who ignored the “Take Me, Obama” title. We really should know better by know. 🙂
It’s as vapid as a beauty pageant contestant’s “How I’d Bring World Peace” response.
I love the arguements made to defend this outrage. “Obama has done this, obama has done that” blah blah blah. None of these idiots have addressed the fact that the nominations closed less than 2 weeks after Obama took office. He has done nothing IMO, but he hadn’t even done what his minions say he’s done in the 2 weeks before these nominations had to be in!
At some point people will realize that the Nobel laureate was the friend of the goals of his enemies and the enemy of goals of his friends. If it wasn’t so expense and dangerous it would be fun to watch it play out.
Momar said “I hope no one kills Obama so he can be humiliated in the next presidential elections and not made into a martyr.”
When he’s defeated are we allowed to cheer for the new guy? What if he’s white? Will we all be considered racists?
I think I know the answer already. The newspapers are going to have a field day. Especially with the amount of investigation they will be doing on the guy/gal challenging O. Something they failed to do with O.
A great article. President Obama deserves this prestigious award for many of the reasons cited in the article. Far from vapid.
It should be noted that the piece in question was from a Can=West Global paper, you know the elitist David Asper’s company that just filed for bankruptcy protection last week.
Let us pray they go down with a thud.
Why would somebody so strongly in favor of disarmament even want to feel empowered?
Bingo. Isn’t that so, violent???

THE BEST THING FOR THIS WOULD BE A WOMEN RUN AND WIN THE PRESIDENCY.
The Nobel Prize lost its credibility when Gore got it on his Global Warming theory. And now Canada is going to follow USA in the cap & trade tax. All science rejected and go on a computer module. (It’s cold outside!)
Obama got it for the same reason.
At least Carter got his award after his term in office – right or wrong depends on point of view.It is like giving the LIEberal Party of Toronto (Canada) the award because the are the party that always wants power to corrupt Canada at any cost. Why don’t they just call it a popularity contest for the most radical people on the earth instead of original idea from Charles Nobel – it is comparable as to giving the Order of Canada to an abortionist.
There are a lot more deserving people out there that did much to deserve it.
Why are many of those on the left so prone to blind idolatry? Trudeau Kennedy Castro Chavez and now the Obama.
Yes but its just the opinion(?) of Doug Roche! He has an amazing track record of being wrong on every issue. He is so silly he thinks that seeking peace through unilateral disarmament actually brings about peace.
If he had that philosophy as a kid I wonder how many school lunches he actually kept long enough to eat.
“Why would somebody so strongly in favor of disarmament even want to feel empowered?
I think it’s the avoidance of confrontation with the meanies of the world is his way of being empowered (loved, worshipped etc.) it’s like the high school nerd who locks himself in his own locker before the schoolyard bullies do it to him. the bullies are amused and the wimp is empowered in that he saved himself the humiliation of the wedgie that precedes being stuffed in the locker. and he can pretend that the bullies are his friends because they find his antics funny.
Here’s a real chance for obozo to do the right thing and the smart thing – politely decline or give it somebody else. He’d still have the ego stroke of winning it despite the taint, but would be able to bring a lot of people onside with this bit of faux humility. A lot of people would really eat it up and begin yelling about how he should have kept it.
But he’s not that smart and he’s probably not capable of thinking of anybody else who should get it more than him. He wants that moment on stage more than anything else.
This award symbolizes his life story; a series of awards and handshakes while people search for some tangible evidence of accomplishment.
Barf.
The one piece of useful information comes right at the bottom:
“Douglas Roche is a former Canadian Senator, a former Canadian ambassador to the UN for disarmament, and author of Creative Dissent: A Politician’s Struggle for Peace (Novalis, 2008).”
Hmmmmn. Canadian senator, eh? Quick google reveals the Douglas Roche homepage!
//roche.apirg.org/public_html/index.html
Don’t see it on an empty stomach, kids.
Which doesn’t say what party he was in, oddly. Quick check of Wiki, turns out he’s a PC! From Edmonton, no less.
Which makes the term Red Tory just so much more clear, doesn’t it? No wonder the Reform Party got so much traction with clowns like this pretending to be “conservatives”.
Also demonstrates the real reason Trudeau was able to do what he did. He had lots of fellow travelers in the PCs.
KevinB at 10:19: How does he get the salty taste out of his mouth?
Thank you for so discreetly expressing exactly how I feel, but could not describe so eloquently.
And he gets it out by putting it in a jar, and placing it on his mantel for all to see.
Ace had a good thought. Accept it on behalf of the military. Makes sense. The guys getting shot at and blown up deserve it. Every missile that takes out a misfit commander I will think ‘Go Peace Prize’ and feel a lot better.
They are all hyping up this “lack of hope” before Obama, was there a serious lack of hope a year ago? huh?
Who was the PM that appointed this miscreant to his posts? When I hear the term”red tory” I question the people that allowed them to run under the Consevative banner in the first place. There is a liberal party.
The nobel prize is now on par with one of those crappy whistles you get in a box of cracker jacks or an Olympic gold medal in figure skating.
Why are many of those on the left so prone to blind idolatry? Trudeau Kennedy Castro Chavez and now the Obama.
A good question with the obvious answer that those inclined to look to government for solutions are always looking for the apocryphal “man on the white horse.”
Phantom @11:34 – ” ‘Douglas Roche is… authour of Creative Dissent: A Politician’s Struggle for Peace (Novalis, 2008)’ ”
I can’t come up with one single example of anyone who might ever, under any circumstances, read a book like that. His own mother wouldn’t read it. I wonder why anyone would publish it?
Did anyone notice the lack of a comment section on this article from the REdmonton Journal?
I don’t think they want to here what people really think.
I thought he was just an ordinary idiot, then I saw his mini-bio at the page bottom and see he’s a major idiot and undoubtedly a leftist. Surprise, surprise.
How does he get the salty taste out of his mouth?

Black Mamba said “I wonder why anyone would publish it?”
Kickbacks? RED Tory, don’t forget. Liberal-lite.
Myself, I wonder if Dougie is in the KGB archives.
I, as one, person, think this guy is a freaking idiot.
The battlefield is PRECISELY where we need to be solving the biggest problems in the world. Look how well “peace” is working with North Korea, Iran, Russia, and Darfur.
“Peace” is nothing but the absence of war, and enemies of liberty and democracy often use times of “peace” prepare for war.
Are all our politicians this stupid?
Surprised he’s able to type in the midst of such orgasmic ecstacy
How does one become empowered over a situation where one has absolutely no power and never will?
IMO this award is a blatant attempt by the (renegade) Nobel Appeaze Prize committee to affect US foreign policy – to pre-emptively prevent further military action proposed, sponsored or supported by the POTUS or the country he leads, along with its allies.
Feeling good, preaching hope or waving “peace in our time” documents emboldens the enemies of capitalism, and therefore threatens freedom.
Most people want hope and peace, no s**t sherlock. It’s the others who are the problem. Mr Roche have you noticed that both North Korea and Iran have made provocative (also known as missile testing) moves during Obama’s presidency?
Did Mr Roche notice what has just happened in Pakistan? No, hope for peace is not peace at all, at least so far. His “analysis” is rife with errors of omission, which one very wise professor of mine once noted were the worst and most dangerous.
A hollow achievement awarded by a blatantly political committee trying to influence foreign policy with fatally flawed appeasement overtures. Thugs are emboldened by appeasement, not deterred by it. Threats to their personal comfort, influence and safety are what deter them; nothing else.
Wake up, Mr Roche.
So Obama ‘restored our hope for peace’? When did we ever lose hope?
What a pile of drek.
OMFG! Is that guy delusional or what? Captain Delusional fails to understand the nuclear genie is never going back into the bottle or that the Islamic terrorists want his conversion to their brand of Islam or his death. He also fails to understand the true evil in this world is not Bush/Cheney but those that would at the least muzzle him and at worst destroy him. Hope, change wish all you want, it ain’t happening.
Note to KevinB: Thanks for the coffee in my nose!

CHRC Section 13: It is a discriminatory practice … to communicate … any matter that is likely to expose a person or persons to hatred or contempt …..
Norwegian Nobel Committee: … the Nobel Peace Prize for 2009 is to be awarded to President Barack Obama for his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples.
Judy Romain, quoted in Mark Steyn’s ‘Who Really Won?’: I’d like to suggest the incredible notion we all create our worlds in our conversations. What are you building by maligning rather than creating discourses for workability?
Take that, you hidebound reactionaries! We’ve seen through all your tired old talk of reality and facts of the matter. That’s just YOUR fiction used for your own racist, sexist, logo-phallocentric ends (if you’ll pardon the expression). “Hasn’t DONE anything yet?” While you’re running around propping up your much touted “reality”, he’s creating worlds, for God’s sake, and discourses for workability. Look: we live in a world of words. Literally! Get used to it.
Well, diplomacy is fine ….. for those problems that can be solved with diplomacy. For the rest, we need folks like Bush and Reagan and even Putin.

Happens all the time in university. Professors write books that nobody would voluntarily read, so they put them on the required reading list for the classes they teach and the poor student has to waste his money and time buying and reading the crap.
Just how badly where these “tingling journos” abused as kids??? They can’t find any hope ,change,or empowerment in themselves,so they have to opt for a stand-in? A fraud, and narccicist who gives new meaning to the word? Come to think of it, that fits for any leftard.

Way too early in the morning for that drek, Kate.
I’ll bet he even gets a tingle up his leg too.

This fellow is one of those conservatives that is more progressive than conservative.
OMG–what a load of sixties claptrap00the big O gives me no hope.He and others of his ilk have only one real agenda item–giving up on our culture!
How does he get the salty taste out of his mouth?
That just put me off my breakfast. It’s gonna take some work to keep the coffee I drank down.
Roche writes sounds like a 14 year old school girl. The naivetĂ© is stunning. He has no idea what Obongo’s handlers are really up to.
Endorsements by Cuba’s Castro and Russia’s Putin are nothing but the sound of wolves getting ready to dine. Obama is in the pocket of the Islamists and of the cabal led by the likes of G. Soros and other shadowy one worlders.
Here’s what I hope. I hope no one kills Obama so he can be humiliated in the next presidential elections and not made into a martyr.
Watch for a global feudal system coming to a planet near you. It will be back to pre Magna Carta.
